RESUMO

Background: Medical profession requires a deep insight regarding its extensive curriculum for competency in field. Motivation is a contributing factor. Objective: To determine the types of motivational profiles and study strategies among medical students


Methodology: Study design: Cross Sectional study. Study Setting: Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar khan


Duration of Study: 1st July to 30th September 2017. Sample Size: A total of 120 subjects were included in the study. Sampling Technique: Two stage stratified systematic random sampling. Study Subject: Students of all classes. Inclusion Criteria: Students of MBBS classes from 1st Year to Final Year from either sex. Exclusion Criteria: People not willing to participate in study. Motivational profiles and study strategies, study hours, and learning methods to memorize were assessed. Data was entered and analyzed by using SPSS version 20


Results: Most common motivational profile was high intrinsic high controlled 52 [43%]. Most common learning method was understanding and repetition 89 [74%]. Daily study hours were non specific among 66 [55%] of students


Conclusion: High intrinsic high controlled was most common profile and understanding and repetition was most common way of learning

RESUMO

Background: Preterm labour and resulting preterm birth of baby is challenge for gynaecologists


Objective: To compare the efficacy of transdermal nitroglycerine with oral nifedipine in inhibition of preterm labour. Methodology: This experimental study was conducted in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan. This study enrolled 60 women with preterm labour, first 30 patients received oral Nifedipine and next 30 patients used transdermal nitroglycerine [NTG] patch. The data was entered and analyzed by using SPSS version 16


Results: Mean prolongation of pregnancy was more with nitro glycerine [30.13+3 days] compared to Nifedipine [29.57+ 6days]. Nifedipine was more successful in prolonging pregnancy beyond 48 hours. Failure of acute tocolysis defined as delivery within 48 hours, was more common with NTG [33.3%] as compared to Nifedipine [23.3%]. Headache was higher in nitrglycerine group [3.3%] compared to Nifedipine group [0%]. The neonatal outcomes in terms of respiratory distress was higher in Nifedipine [76.7%] than Nitroglycrine group [63.3%].There was no statistically significant difference between two groups


Conclusion: Nitroglycerine patch is as effective as Nifedipine in suppression of preterm labour and in prolonging pregnancy

RESUMO

To find out the causes of postmenopausal bleeding and their correlation with medical illness. Single centre, cross sectional study. The department of obstetrics and gynaecology, Shaikh Zayed Postgraduate Medical Institute and hospital, Lahore from 1[st] August 2000 to 30[th] June 2002. All the patients with post menopausal bleeding diagnosed during the study periods were included, except patients after hysterectomy and premature menopause. Relative informations were filled in a Performa and informations were taken from case records. Total 50 patients were included in the study. Maximum number of patients with postmenopausal bleeding were between 56-60 years [32%]. Most of the patients were having parity between 4-6 [48%]. Majority of patients [32%] had symptom about 10 years after menopause. Hypertension, diabetes and obesity were commonly found medical illness in these patients, especially when cause is endometrial carcinoma, ultrasound scan, Pap smear and endometrial biopsy are essential to rule out cause of post menopausal bleeding. 70% patients were having benign cause while 30% patients had malignant cause for post menopausal bleeding. Carcinoma of genital tract is one of the most important cause of postmenopausal bleeding, so early detection of the cases can be life saving. Detailed medical evaluation, aid of ultrasonography, Pap smear and endometrial biopsy is required to find the cause of postmenopausal bleeding
