RESUMO

To determine the relationship between conscientious intelligence and organizational identification in nurses. This descriptive correlational study was conducted in a private hospital in Ankara. 223 nurses were recruited using the simple random sampling method. Data were collected with a personal information form, the Conscientious Intelligence Scale, and the Organizational Identification Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20 statistics program. Kruskal Wallis variance analysis, multiple linear regression, and correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. There was a linear positive medium level relationship between the Organizational Identification Scale and the total and sub-dimensions of the Conscientious Intelligence Scale. The Conscientious Intelligence Scale (with job tenure and shift style subdimensions) explains 26.6% of the Organizational Identification Scale. The Conscientious Intelligence Scale (? = 0.477) has more effect on the Organizational Identification Scale than other variables. The total scores of the nurses on Conscientious Intelligence Scale and Organizational Identification Scale were above average. Overall job tenure, tenure at the organization, and the level of conscientious intelligence among nurses increase organizational identification

RESUMO

Background and Objectives: Catheterization related urethral injury (CRUI), particularly in men, is common and produces significant morbidity. However, it seems to have gathered little interest of concerned authorities towards prevention. The objective of the study is to reveal that many CRUI are usually due to improper technique.Material and Methods: This is a retrospective and descriptive study carried out at Janaki Medical College & Teaching Hospital, Janakpur between May 2013 and September 2016. It included 18 male patients presenting in emergency with acute CRUI. Re-catheterization was attempted by experienced surgeons in them unless there was history suggestive of urethral stricture and the outcome was analyzed. Results: Mean age of the patients was 62.9 ± 17.7 (range: 22 - 90) years. When the consultant attended them, 8 (44.4%) patients had catheter in place with intraurethral balloon inflation (IUBI), and 10 patients had catheter removed. One patient in each group had scrotal hematoma suggesting urethral perforation. Excluding two patients with typical history suggestive of urethral stricture, manual urethral re-catheterization was attempted by surgeon in 16 patients and succeeded in 12 (75%) patients, which was remarkable. Rest of the 6 patients had suprapubic catheterization. Conclusion: Most of the CRUI results from technical fault and are potentially preventable.

RESUMO

Background and objectives: The sacral hiatus is the site for caudal epidural anaesthesia during perineal surgery and also for a painless delivery. It is also used for three dimensional colour visualization of lumbosacral epidural space in orthopaedic practice for diagnosis and treatment. Work on the morphometrical study of the sacral hiatus is limited, especially in south indian population. So this study is carried to examine, measure and record the morphometry of sacral hiatus in order to study the anatomical variations which will be useful for caudal epidural anaesthesia. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in the Department of Anatomy, Prathima Institute of Medical Science, Naganur, Andhra Pradesh. 93 dry sacra with complete sacral hiatus were taken for the study. The shape of the sacral hiatus was noted by naked eye. Level of the apex and base of the sacral hiatus was noted with respect to the sacral vertebra. The length of sacral hiatus was measured from apex to the midpoint of base, the anteroposterior depth of sacral hiatus at the apex was measured with the help of vernier calipers. The transverse width of sacral hiatus at the base was measured between the inner aspects of inferior limit of the sacral cornu with the help of divider and then adjusted, and calculated with vernier caliper. Results: In 47 (50.53 %) sacra the shape was Inverted-U and in 25 (26.9 %) sacra Inverted-V. The irregular shaped of sacral hiatus was observed in 11 (11.8 %) cases. A “Dumbbell” shaped sacral hiatus was observed in 5 (5.4%) cases with a nodular bony growth projecting medially from both margins. The dorsal wall of sacral canal was entirely absence in 4 (4.3%) cases. Absence of sacral hiatus, a rare phenomenon, was observed in 1 (1%) specimens only. Conclusion: In the present study, elongated hiatus and narrowing of the sacral canal at apex of sacral hiatus was found in a significant percentage, which should be kept in mind while giving the caudal anaesthesia in Andhra Pradesh region.

RESUMO

Cysteine (an aminothiol) is known to protect against radiation damage, and is understood to do so by generating hydrogen peroxide which subsequently inhibits RNA synthesis. Our results showed inability of catalase to remove or reduce the magnitude of radioprotection by caffeine and/or cysteine at optimal/suboptimal temperatures in barley. This observation was adequately corroborated by data on frequency of chromosomal aberration, peroxidase activity and total protein content. On the contrary, catalase tended to enhance the radioprotective effectiveness of cysteine. Macromolecular synthetic patterns in caffeine and/or cysteine treated embryos were too inconsistent to permit a logical conclusion with regard to their positive involvement in the biochemical pathway of chemical modification of radiation damage. On the other hand, mutually annihilatory reaction hypothesis based on physico-chemical principles provides a satisfactory explanation for the observed effects.
