RESUMO

Despite complete control of cholesteatomatous disease following mastoidectomy, persistent draining ear represents a frustrating problem for both the physician and the patient with uncontrolled allergic conditions. The cause of this problem resides in the atopic respiratory mucosa of the middle ear and eustachian tube. In this article, the author describes a simple procedure to deal successfully with this problem

RESUMO

The present study was conducted on 20 patients with chronic active schistosomiasis. They were subjected to clinical, some pathological and immunological studies. The histopathological changes of the fascicular sural nerve biopsy specimens were abnormal in 60% of the patients, normal in 25% and inconclusive in the remainders. Immunoglobulin deposition in the nerves and the intraneural blood vessels was demonstrated in high percentage of the studied cases

RESUMO

Twenty patients with acute non-complicating Schistosoma mansoni infection and 20 controls were studied as concerns I. Q., EEG, CSF, immunoglobulins and pneumoencephalography. I. Q. Was significantly lower than the control and a significant link was found with the EEG changes and degree of eosinophilia. Pneumoencephalography was normal without any mass lesions. Only one patient with mild symmetrical frontal dilatation. EEG showed epileptiform activity of irritative nature without over clinical seizures. The EEG changes might be intermittent and related to the humoral immune response disturbances in the acute stages of schistosomiasis

RESUMO

Sixteen patients suffering from parkinsonism due to paralysis agitans and post-encephalitis were studied. Eleven patients showed a defective elimination of water after a water load. In the two patients who showed the most marked diminution in water elimination, hypertonic saline failed to inhibit the urinary output after a water load, and produced an osmotic diuresis. The osmoreceptor hypothalamic pituitary mechanism is sluggish, both to the stimulus of hyper as well as hypoosmolarity, and the fault is most probably in the hypothalamic pituitary apparatus. 1] 16 patients suffering from parkin-sonism due to paralysis agitans and post-encephalitis were studied, 2] Eleven patients showed a defective elimination of water after a water load. 3] In the two patients who showed the most marked diminution in water elimination, hypertonic saline failed to inhibit the urinary output after a water load, and produced an osmotic diuresis. 4] The osmoreceptor hypothalamic pituitary mechanism is sluggish, both to the stimulus of hyper-, as well as hypo-osmolarity, and the fault is most probably in the hypothalamic pituitary apparatus
