RESUMO

Fifteen cases of bladder carcinoma associated with schistosomiasis were studied for the expression of blood group antigens A and B, T-antigen and carcinoembryonic antigen [CEA] in an effort to correlate these data with the histologic grade of the tumour. The immunoperoxidase technique was used. It was found that blood group antigens are maintained better in low grade tumours. On the other hand, T-antigen positivity was correlated with invasive and high grade tumours. As regards the carcinoembryonic antigen, better expression was observed in high grade tumours. This study illustrates the value of combining three predictive tumour markers to more accurately assess the prognosis of patients with bladder cancer associated with schistosomiasis

RESUMO

The teratogenic and histopathological effects of diazepam were studied in thirty pregnant female white rats. Diazepam 1 mg was injected intraperitoneally for 9 days starting from the eleventh day from the onset of pregnancy. Histopathological changes in mothers were evidenced by mild congestion of the liver, medullary congestion of the kidney and alopecia. Teratogenicity was evidenced by abortion [2 percent] palate, [10 percent] in living embryoes, corneal adhesiens to the lens [10 percent], congestion and degenerative changes in the parenchymatous organs. Diazepam "valium" is not recommended in pregnant mothers pending further studies

RESUMO

The ascorbic acid content as well as the thickness and cellularity of the zona glomerulosa and fasiculata were determined in the adrenal cortex of rabbits subjected to acute experimental serum sickness. It has been found that serum sickness is accompanied by diminution of ascorbic acid content together with increased thickness and cellularity of both zona glomerulosa and fasciculata, which was particularly marked five days following injection of horse serum. The functional significance of these changes and the role of adrenal cortical hormones in allergy were discussed
