RESUMO

Miliary osteoma cutis of the face is a form of primary osteoma cutis. We report a case of miliary osteoma cutis on the jaw of a 55-year-old female. She presented with several 2~3 mm sized, skin-colored firm papules over both lower jaws for 5 years. Skin biopsy was performed and the specimen showed numerous osteocytes and osteoblasts in the bony tissue which was located in the deep dermis.

RESUMO

Milia en plaque is an unusual and rare variant of milia which is characterized by numerous tiny milia on an erythematous base that arise spontaneously on the retroauricular area. We report a case of milia en plaque of 41-year-old Korean man who presented with numerous milia on the erythematous plaque of the retroauricular area. Histopathologic examination showed multiple cystic features with lamellar keratinized material in the cysts and mild pericystic inflammation. The skin lesion was totally excised and closed with a modified rhomboid transposition flap. We discuss about the treatment of milia en plaque in the review of literature.

RESUMO

Eruptive pseudoandiomatosis (EPA) is a rare, self-limiting exanthem, which is characterized by numerous erythematous angioma-like papules surrounded by a pale halo. We report two cases of EPA, which developed in adulthood. The first patient, a 50-year-old female, had erythematous angioma-like papules surrounded by a pale halo on the face and arms. The second patient, a 34-year-old female, had lesions on the upper and lower extremities. The histological features included dilated blood vessels with plump endothelial cells, but there was no evidence of frank vascular proliferation or vasculitis.

RESUMO

Wegener's granulomatosis is an uncommon condition characterized by necrotizing vasculitis of unknown cause. The classic clinical triad consists of necrotizing granulomatous inflammation of the respiratory tract, necrotizing glomerulonephiritis, and necrotizing vascultitis affecting predominantly small vessels. The skin manifestations are frequent, and the most common lesion is purpura distributed on the limbs and trunk. However, severe skin involvement is not common. A 20-year old female presented with purpuric macules on the whole body, which became necrotic. The lungs or kidneys were not affected. However, the histopathologic findings of the skin and nasal mucosa revealed the features of necrotizing vasculitis and granulomatous inflammation. Therefore, we diagnosed Wegener's granulomatosis, which showed unusually severe skin necrosis. She was treated with systemic corticosteroids and cyclophosphamide, but leukopenia, sepsis, and infective endocarditis continuously developed. She died of a cerebral hermorrhage due to overdose of coumadin, which had been used following a cardiac operation for infective endocarditis.

RESUMO

We report a sporadic case of hypotrichosis simplex of the scalp, a rare genotrichosis, characterized by sparse or absent scalp hair with no structural defect of the hair shaft, in the absence of other ectodermal or systemic abnormalities. A 9-year-old girl had normal-looking hair at birth but subsequently lost the hair on her scalp after she turned 3 years of age. However, her eyebrows and eyelashes remained normal. Skin, nails and teeth were also normal except for malocclusion. No other family member had a similar hair defect. Hair shaft examination did not reveal any structural abnormalities. Microscopic examination of a scalp biopsy specimen showed a reduced number of hair follicles.

RESUMO

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Higher incidence of prosthetic complications such as screw loosening, screw fracture has been reported for posterior single tooth implant. So, there is ongoing research regarding stability of implant-abutment interface. One of those research is increasing the implant diameter and prosthetic table width to improve joint stability. In another part of this research, internal conical type implant-abutment interface was developed and reported joint strength is higher than traditional external hex interface. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to compare stress distribution in single molar implant between external hex butt joint implant and internal conical joint implant when increasing the implant diameter and prosthetic table width : 4mm diameter, 5mm diameter, 5mm diameter/6mm prosthetic table width. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Non-linear finite element models were created and the 3-dimensional finite element analysis was performed to see the distribution of stress when 300N static loading was applied to model at 0., 15., 30.off-axis angle. RESULTS: The following results were obtained: 1. Internal conical joint showed lower tensile stress value than that of external hex butt joint. 2. When off-axis loading was applied, internal conical joint showed more effective stress distribution than external hex butt joint. 3. External hex butt joint showed lower tensile stress value when the implant diameter was increased. 4. Internal conical joint showed lower tensile stress value than external hex butt joint when the implant diameter was increased. 5. Both of these joint mechanism showed lower tensile stress value when the prosthetic table width was increased. CONCLUSION: Internal conical joint showed more effective stress distribution than external hex joint. Increasing implant diameter showed more effective stress distribution than increasing prosthetic table width.
