RESUMO

Malignant Lymphoma is uncommon in female genital tract. A rare presentation of Malignant Lymphoma of the vagina has been reported here. A 61 years old woman presented with postmenopausal bleeding of 10 days duration. On examination per vaginum, the patient had firm nodular infiltrative growth involving entire posterior vaginal wall and full thickness of recto-vaginal septum. Bleeding ulcer was seen at the superior part of the growth which is extending up to introitus. Cervix was free. Per rectal examination showed infiltration of anterior rectal wall. There was no lymphadenopathy or hepato-splenomegaly. C.T. Scan of abdomen revealed a large malignant soft tissue tumor involving the walls of vagina and infiltrating the rectum. Histopathology of the tumor revealed Diffuse Histiocytic lymphoma

RESUMO

This paper focused on 3 rare lesions of breast - an exceedingly rare case of fibrocystic disease of breast with predominantly chondroid metaplasia. Giant lipoma of breast which is infrequently observed because of rarity in size and location, with only very few case reports available in literature and fibroadenoma with atypical ductal hyperplasia(ADH) of breast which is an unusual finding in the adolescent or young adult female.

RESUMO

A fibrinogenolytic toxin of molecular weight 6.5 kDa has been purified from the venom of Indian monocled cobra (Naja kaouthia) by repeated cation exchange chromatography on CM-sephadex C-50. The purified toxin did not show any phospholipase activity but was mildly hemolytic on human erythrocytes. This toxin, called Lahirin, cleaved fibrinogen in a dose- and time-dependent manner. The digestion process apparently started with the Aα chain, and gradually other lower-molecular-weight chains were also cleaved to low-molecular-weight peptides. The fibrinolytic activity was completely lost after treatment with ethylene di-amine tetra acetic acid (EDTA). However, exposure to 100°C for 1 min or pre-treatment with phenyl methyl sulfonyl fluoride (PMSF) did not affect the fibrinolytic activity. Cleavage of di-sulphide bonds by β-mercaptoethanol or unfolding the protein with 4 M urea caused complete loss of activity of pure Lahirin.

RESUMO

A primary testicular tumour in a 62 year old man was found to be a plasmacytoma on histopathological examination without any extra testicular disease prior to or subsequent to orchiectomy, fulfilling the criteria for the primary extramedullary plasmacytoma. Such cases are extremely rare. Evaluation of such a case was discussed and the relevant literature reviewed.

RESUMO

Therapeutic indications for carbamazepine have grown in recent years and more and more patients are taking this drug for various neurological and psychiatric disorders. Though haematological complications like aplastic anaemia etc., due to carbamazepine therapy are well known pure red cell aplasia is exceedingly rare. A 33 year old man was diagnosed to have pure red cell aplasia with positive Coomb's test following 5 months of carbamazepine therapy. He recovered completely. Carbamazepine induced pure red cell aplasia is a reversible condition if recognised early.
