RESUMO
El cáncer de pulmón es una de las neoplasias más letales en el mundo. Innumerables avances en biología molecular, imágenes, quimioterapia y radioterapia, han mejorado el diagnóstico y la estadificación de la enfermedad, pero aún así, la sobrevida de los pacientes continúa siendo pobre. En este sentido es fundamental lograr una estadificación precisa, que permita planear de manera multidisciplinaria el mejor tratamiento, sea este curativo o paliativo que mejore la sobrevida y calidad de vida de los pacientes. Nuestra experiencia en pacientes en estadio IIIa nos ha mostrado que el tratamiento neoadyuvante seguido de cirugía es la mejor opción terapéutica, mejorando la calidad de vida y su sobrevida, no así en pacientes en estadio IIIb en donde no hemos encontrado resultados alentadores.
Lung cancer is one of the most lethal malignancies in the world. Many advances in molecular biology, images, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, have improved diagnosis and staging of the disease, but even so, the survival of patients remains poor. In this regard it is essential to achieve a precise staging to enable multidisciplinary way to plan the best treatment, either if it could be curative or palliative, to improve survival and quality of life of patiens. Our experience in patients in stage IIIa has shown that the neoadjuvant treatment followed by surgery is the best therapeutic, improving the quality of life and their survival, in patients in stage IIIb where we did not found encouraging results.
