The management of musculo skeletal disorders has been taken as an important subject in modern time. The speedy progress of musculo skeletal disorders has compelled the Scientist to think about ex medical management of these diseases. The changing life style has aggravated the condition. The day by day increasing number of patients of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout, Osteoarthritis and others functional musculo skeletal disorders can be better managed in Unani Medicine. The review of classical unani literature reveals that they have very successfully practice in various regimental therapies. Dalak is one of the important methods of management for musculo skeletal disorders. The unani physicians have divided Dalak in two main groups, Dalak-e-Sulb and Dalak-e-Laiyyin. The application of this therapy helps in the mobilization of accumulated morbid material under and around the joints. It may be accompanied or followed by other regimental therapies including Fomentation, Bathing and Sitz Bath which improve the efficacy and early restoration of joint pain and mobility

RESUMO

Role of Unani Medicine as alternative to Modern Medicine has been duly recognized throughout the World. The fabulous services rendered by Unani Physicians are still subject of attraction for researchers. The story of description of medicinal properties starts from Ebers Papyrus in 1500 B.C. Aflatoon al-Tabib, a physician lived around 1460 B.C. has compiled some treatises on herbal drugs. Hippocrates [460 B.C.], Dioscorides [70 A.D.], Galen [130-201 A.D.], Rufas [130 A.D.], Oribasiyoos [525 A.D.], Yuhanna Ibn Masawiya [853 A.D.], Hunain bin Ishaq [873 A.D.], Rabban al-Tabri [886 A.D.], Abu Bakr Mohammad Bin Zakariya al-Razi [925 A.D.], Ibn Sina [1025 A.D.], Ibn Baitar [1248 A.D.] and Daud Antaki [1541 A.D.] have compiled several books with different titles on Medicinal properties of Herbal, Mineral and Animal drugs. Obviously this was a great job performed by these author physicians of Unani Medicine. Among them Tazkiratul ulil Albab compiled by Daud Antaki is an important compendium based on peculiar style and particular approach for the description of drugs. Importance of this book can be assessed by the fact that, this book was published seven times in Egypt. The book contains description of 1712 drugs. Besides fundamentals of pharmacology and therapeutic efficacy of diseases it provides valuable information on the subject

RESUMO

Modem medicine is trying to introduce a number of experimental therapies for reversal of neuronal damage or enhancement of neuronal functions. One of this is Unani therapy for cognitive management. We prepared an in-house formulation called Majoon Intelligent Quotient [MIQ]. The ingredients were selected based upon an extensive literature survey about their usage in neurological conditions. Small Cerebral Palsy children aged 2-6 years were selected from UDAAN, one of India's premier center for management of small moderate to severe CP children. The overall opinion on the drug seems to show a 50% responder rate in cognitive parameters in small CP children with moderate to severe cerebral palsy. We feel that this drug will have an important role in early Interventional therapy of small CP children specially those with cognitive impairment

RESUMO

Aging is inevitable and getting old in a healthy way is everybody's dream. Loss of memory, osteoarthritis, cataract, benign prostate hypertrophy, psychological disorders and other degenerative changes are few examples of diseases coming as part and parcel with old age. Unani system of medicine offers certain principles known as Asbab-e-sitta zarooriya or six essential requisites of life. These when kept in balance, not only keep one healthy but delay the process of aging. Apart from this there are recommendations of certain Ilaj-bittadabeer [Regimental therapy], and Ilaj-bil-ghiza [Dietotherapy] to rejuvenate the body system. There are certain drugs in Unani system of medicine which are now proven to have antioxidant properties, used for protection of Hararat-e-ghariziya [Vital Power]. In this paper, all this will be presented in a systematic and practical way under the following headings: Asbab-e-sitta zarooriya [Six essential requisites of life] llaj bit tadabeer [Regimental therapy]. Ilaj bil ghiza [Dietotherapy]. llaj bil dawa [Drug therapy]. These when followed will act as a prophylaxis for delaying the process of aging and preventing old age diseases
