RESUMO

Objective: To determine the change in T-score of post-menopausal osteoporosis patients with weight-bearing exercises


Study Design: A quasi-experimental study


Place and Duration of Study: Physiotherapy Department and Orthopedic Unit I, Mayo Hospital, Lahore, from May to October 2014


Methodology: Two hundred and seventy-four patients were randomly divided into two groups according to inclusion and exclusion criteria using non-probability purposive sampling technique. The group 1 was treated by medication and weightbearing exercises and group 2 was given medication alone. The dual energy X-ray absorptiometry [DEXA] scan was used to find the T-score before and after treatment and improvement was compared. A p-value less than 0.05 was taken as significant


Results: The results showed that improvement was occurred in both groups after treatment. The DEXA scan median values after treatment were changed to 3.00 [0] for group 1 [exercises and medication] and 2.00 [1] for group 2 [medication]


Conclusion: The physical activity along with medication play vital role in the treatment of post-menopausal osteoporosis than medication alone

RESUMO

Objective of this study was to evaluate current BDS curriculum to identify the need for reviewing and updating the existing curriculum. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study. This Study was conducted in four private sector dental colleges of Islamabad from S[th] June to 25[th] December2013. Two hundred and ninety six faculty members and students were included in the study based upon random sampling technique. Demonstrators and junior dental students were not included in the study. Faculty of different levels including professors, associate professors, assistant professors, senior registrars and final year BDS students were included in the study. A self-administered structured questionnaire based upon Stufflebeams1 CIPP Model of program evaluation was used as data collection tool and principal author personally visited all four dental colleges to collect data. MS Excel was used for data entry, descriptive analysis and generation of graphs. Results of the present study indicated that there are weaknesses in the current Dental curriculum. Integration according to latest trends and approaches are required to make it at par with international standards

RESUMO

To determine the frequency of Hyperprolactinemia in subfertile women presenting to Nishtar Hospital Multan. Case series study. This study was carried out in Gynae and Obst. Outpatient Department and Gynae and Obst. Units of Nishtar Hospital, Multan from Oct. 2009 to March 2010. A total of 111 Patients with subfertility were selected which were fulfilling inclusion criteria. The prevalence of HPR in subfertile women at Nishtar Hospital Multan is 31.53%, and it is more common in women with primary subfertility i.e. 23.42% than in secondary subfertility where it is 8.10%. It is concluded that hyperprolactinemia [HPR] leads to anovulation which is a main cause of subfertility, more common among women with primary subfertility than secondary subfertility
