RESUMO

Objective To investigate the ability of linked color imaging(LCI)for diagnosing Helicobacter Pylori(Hp)infection compared with conventional white light imaging(WLI). Methods We prospectively collected subjects who underwent gastroscopy. Images under both WLI and LCI were recorded and analyzed. Software was used to measure pixel brightness for red(R),green(G),blue(B)of endoscopic images from suspected lesion sites. Biopsies were taken from these sites and Warthin-Starry silver staining was used to detect if Hp was present. R/(G+B)value was used to construct receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC)to predict Hp infec-tion and the area under curve(AUC),cut-off point, sensitivity,as well as specificity were calculated with the patho-logy as the gold standard. Results Forty-seven subjects(23 men,24 women;23 Uygur subjects,24 Han subjects) were included in a mean age of 49 years old. Ninety-one biopsies were obtained. Forty-four biopsies (48.4%)were Hp positive according to the pathology. The AUC of LCI was 0.616,with the cut-off point at 0.967 and sensitivity at 0.955 and specificity at 0.298. The AUC of WLI was 0.529,with cut-off point at 2.638 and sensi-tivity at 0.455 and specificity at 0.766. The AUC of Han and Uygur subjects were 0.650 and 0.549 by LCI. The AUC of atrophy gastritis subjects and non-atrophy gastritis subjects were 0.628 and 0.603. Conclusion LCI was superior to WLI in predicting Hp infection. LCI may act as an objective and quantified endoscopic diagnostic meth-od in Hp infection.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE To find out the relationship between mucoepidermoid carcinoma and Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.METHODS Nested polymerase chain reaction (Nested PCR) was adapted to detect HPV DNA from 51 tissues of mucoepidermoid carcinoma using consensus primers, 9 tissues of chronic parotitis were as control.RESULTS HPV DNA was detected in 37 of total 51 mucoepidermoid carcinoma tissues, the detection rate was up to 72.5%, comparatively, it was 22.2% (2 of 9) in chronic parotitis tissues. The HPV DNA detection rate of mucoepidermoid carcinoma tissues was statistically higher than that of chronic parotitis tissues (χ2=8.517, P=0.004).CONCLUSION The results suggested that the HPV infection may cause mucoepidermoid carcinoma.

RESUMO

Ectopic internal carotid artery (ICA) is a very rare congenital variation. Unless the diagnosis is made before neck or tonsil surgery, massive hemorrhage and even death may result from injury to the vessel. Therefore, knowledge of the presence of ectopic ICAs may be important. We report two cases suffering from dysphagia associated with ectopic ICA manifesting itself as a pulsative protruding of the right lateral wall of the oropharynx.

RESUMO

Bacterial cellulose (BC) was prepared by Acetobacter xylinum in static culture. After purified by chemical treatment, the microstructure, chemical structure, crystal structure and mechanical property of BC were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and tensile strength measurement respectively, and compared with those of the imported bacterial cellulose wound dressing served as control sample (XBC). The results indicated that the diameter of the BC was (22 +/- 9) nm, and the crystallinity index was 89.71%. The tensile strength and the Young's mouduls of BC were significant higher than XBC both in wet and dry states. The biocompatibility of BC and XBC were evaluated by cytotoxicity test, delayed contact sensitization study in the Guinea Pig and skin irritation test. The results showed that BC had reliable biocompatibility as well as XBC. With the unique nanostructure, high crystallinity, high mechanical strength, and reliable biocompatibility, BC produced in our country as well as XBC can be used as a safe biomaterial for the medical applications.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the effects of kidney-deficiency on auditory cortex metabolism in the elderly by using the proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1H-MRS).Methods 50 volunteers, including 20 young subjects and 30 older subjects matched for gender, were measured by pure tone audiometry、“kidney-deficiency”-related test and were executed 3.0 T multi-voxel 1H-MRS tests,The ratios of N-acetylaspartate (NAA),choline (Cho) and lactate (Lac) to creatine (Cr) were measured and were compared between the two groups. The t-test analysis were used for statistic process. The relationship between auditory cortex metabolism and the symptom of kidney-deficiency was also analyzed.Resnlts The result of kidney-deficiency-related test and pure tone audiometry revealed that there was significant difference between the two groups and the older subjects had the more severity kidney-deficiency and high-frequency hearing loss (t=6.335、19.558,P<0.05).The NAA/Cho ratio in the auditory cortex in the older group was significantly lower than that in the younger group (t=2.90,P<0.05).There were no significant differences between two groups for the ratios of NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr (t=1.415、0.927,P>0.05).Decrease of the ratio of NAA/Cho in the older group is significantly related with kidneT-deficiency(r=- 0.773,P=0.025).Conclusion kidney-deficiency play a very important role in the hearing loss and reduction of the number of neurons in auditory cortex of older healthy subjects. It suggests one possible underlying mechanism for the speech perception difficulties exhibited by aging adults.

RESUMO

Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a new kind of natural biological nano-materials which displays unique physical, chemical and mechanical properties. It has high bioactivity, good biocompatibility, and biodegradability. BC fiber has a nanoporous structure and certain nano-pore size distribution, and a large number of nanopores can be used as a "template". BC can be used as a template to synthesize nano-composite materials with three-dimensional network structure through biomimetic synthesis. BC can also be used as a template to stabilize and disperse the polymers which are easily assembled into a cluster or bundle in the ultra-fine fiber network structure. The BC template could be removed in order to change or optimize the properties of the composite material. The process can make use of the synergy between the BC template and inorganic materials to make a new type of hollow molecular sieve. It can synthesize a variety of nanoscale metal oxides with the hollow network. The present study of template svnthesis based on BC is introduced in this paper.
