RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of a fasting plasma glucose [FPG] at the first trimester in predicting gestational diabetes mellitus [GDM] and the association between FPG and adverse pregnancy outcomes

Methods: The levels of FPG in women with singleton pregnancies were measured at 9-13+6 weeks. A two hour 75-g oral glucose tolerance test [OGTT] was completed at 24-28 weeks and the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups [IADPSG] criteria was used. Adverse pregnancy outcomes were assessed and recorded

Results: Among 2112 pregnant women enrolled in the study, 224 [10.6%] subjects were diagnosed with GDM. The AUC for FPG in predicting GDM was 0.63 [95% CI 0.61- 0.65] and the optimal cutoff value was 4.5 mmol/L [sensitivity 64.29% and specificity 56.45%]. Higher first-trimester FPG increased the prevalence of GDM, large for gestational age [LGA] and assisted vaginal delivery and/or cesarean section [all P < 0.05]

Conclusion: FPG at first trimester could be used to predict GDM and higher first-trimester FPG was associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes

RESUMO

[Objective] To investigate the value of HBV-M and HBV DNA of newborns born to HBsAg-positive mother, which were tested before combined immunization of hepatitis B. [Method] A total of 420 infants born to HBsAg-positive mothers delivered in Obstetric Department of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University from June 2006 to February 2008 were followed up at least 6 months and rechecked HBV-M to confirm the diagnosis of HBV intrauterine infection, which included 33 HBsAg or HBV DNA positive newborn babies and 6 newborns with both HBsAg seropositive and HBV DNA seropositive. [Result] HBV intrauterine infection rate was 0.95%. Using newborn both HBsAg positive and HBV DNA positive as diagnostic criterion to diagnose HBV intrauterine infection, the positive likelihood ratio was 208.3, while using newborn HBsAg positive or HBV DNA positive as diagnostic criterion, it was 14.3. [Conclusion] Newborn both HBsAg positive and HBV DNA positive obtained before combined immunization of hepatitis B may predict HBV intrauterine infection, and it may play as a clinical index of preliminary diagnosis of HBV intrauterine infection.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the protective effect of ischemic-preconditioning under the mild hypothermia against small intestine ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats and its mechanism. METHODS: Thirty-two rats were randomized into 4 groups (8 rats in each group): sham operated group (Sham), ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) group, ischemic-preconditioning (IP) group, mild hypothermia ischemic-preconditioning (MHIP) group. The wet/dry ratio, Ca 2+ -Mg 2+ -ATPase activity in intestine tissue, the malondialdehyde (MDA) content, activities of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and total antioxdase (TAX) in blood were determined. Ultrastructure, Bcl-2 and Bax expression in intestinal mucosa tissue were also observed. RESULTS: After I/R, the intestinal tissue wet/dry ratio, the content of MDA, LDH activity, the optic density of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins were significantly higher in I/R group than those in sham group (P

RESUMO

AIM and METHODS: To study the protective effects of liposomes containing L-Arg,Se and taurine on intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. Wistar rats were divided randomly into sham operated group,ischemia-reperfusion(I/R) group, pretreatment with liposomes group and treatment with liposomes at reperfusion group. In the experiments, superior mesenteric artery was clipped for 60 min, and then unclipped. 2 hours of reperfusion later, MDA content, T-SOD and Ca 2+ -Mg 2+ -ATPase activities in intestinal tissues were detected respectively, ultrastructure and bcl-2 expression in intestinal mucosa tissue were observed. RESULTS: MDA content in liposomes-treated group was less than I/R group ( P 0.05). CONCLUSION: Liposomes containing L-arginine, Se and taurine can protect intestine against ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats, which may be related to inhibiting lipid peroxidation, stabilizing internal circumstances and inducing bcl-2 protein expression.
