RESUMO

The study was conducted to explore the relationship of narcissism with meta-cognition and demographic variable. The study was conducted on 200 government school students. The Narcissism scale was developed by the researchers and Meta-Cognition scale by Mubarak Singh and Ana Bali (2017) were used to collect the data. A separate sheet was given to the students to fill their demographic information. The results revealed a significant locale and category wise difference in narcissism of school students. But there was no significant difference in narcissism scores among school students in relation to their parental education and parental income. It was also found that there is a significant positive relationship between narcissism and meta-cognition.

RESUMO

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) comprises Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn’s Disease (CD) with unknown aetiology. Most of the drugs used to treat IBD as standard treatment produce adverse effects during long term therapy. Evidence has suggested a role of intestinal microbiota in IBD. The use of probiotics and prebiotics is the natural approach to treat IBD. The objective of this article was to review the studies on probiotics that cover the therapeutic status in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Appraisal of published articles from peer reviewed journals, search from PubMed and Wiley Blackwell website for English language publications using defined key words according to disease type. Studies have shown that probiotic agents play an important role in IBD and these are VSL#3, Bifido-ferminted milk, Escherichia coli Nissle 1917, Saccharomyces boulardi and “BIO-THREE for inducing remission in patients with active UC, for preventing relapses in inactive UC patients and also in UC patients with ileo-anal pouch anastomosis. Lactobacillllus rhamnosus GG and Lactobacillllus johnsonii LA1 can prevent endoscopic recurrences in patients with inactive CD. Probiotic intervention study designs in IBD patients searched were RCT vs Placebo / RCT vs standard treatment . Studies - with uncontrolled design, - with prebiotics intervention and with helminths were also searched. There is a promising role of probiotics and prebiotics in chronic mucosal inflammation that occurs in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Sufficient evidence to support the role of probiotics in CD are not available. Well designed RCT studies based on intention -to- treat analyses are required.

RESUMO

Chronic retropharyngeal abscess secondary to tubercular spondilitis is a rare phenomenon. Anatomical location of this abscess makes it a life threatening condition requiring prompt diagnosis and treatment thus preventing morbidity and mortality. Authors are documenting a case of tubercular spondylitis of cervical region in a 12-year old male child with huge retropharyngeal abscess extending to superior mediastinum. Clinically, patient had respiratory distress but no neurological deficit. USG (Ultrasonography) guided aspirate of abscess sent for microscopy and culture showed acid fast bacilli. Multiple USG guided aspirations under antibiotic and antitubercular cover (Category I) were done. Patient is doing well at three month follow-up.

RESUMO

Leprosy can affect all age groups. In 1991 the World Health Assembly took major initiative towards global elimination of the disease. It was possible to achieve 90% reduction in leprosy cases all over the world. India is not lagging behind to eliminate leprosy as Government of India, various NGOs and IMA have joined hands to fight the menace aggressively. During the year 2004-05 the IMA organised training workshops on leprosy for private practitioners, who are mostly members of IMA. After the completion of workshops a wrap-up workshop was organised in each state. It was a treat opportunity for the IMA to mobilise its resources to contribute to the national cause.
