RESUMO

Introduction: Pseudocyst of the pinna is a rare condition that occurs when fluid accumulates in the intercartilagenous space of the auricle. The main goal when treating this condition is to keep acceptable cosmetic results with no recurrence rate. Objective: To demonstrate the superior impact of incision and drainage of auricular pseudocysts with the insertion of a catheter drain and daily irrigation as the treatment of this condition. Methods: A total of 42 patients with auricular pseudocysts were enrolled in the present study in the period between May 2011 and May 2017. All of the patients were treated with incision and drainage with compression. The average follow-up time reached ~ 6 months in all of the cases. Results: All of the patients had satisfactory cosmetic results with no recurrence and no complications. Conclusion: Among the different methods of surgical treatment of pseudocyst of the pinna, incision and drainage with daily irrigation is a significantly efficientmethod both for the eradication of auricular pseudocysts and for good cosmetic results (AU)

RESUMO

Inhaled foreign body (FB) is one of the most problematic conditions, especially in childhood. Rapid and safe bronchoscopy removal of inhaled foreign bodies is the treatment of choice in these cases. Spontaneous expulsion of inhaled FB bronchus is rarely mentioned in the literature. We present three cases of expelled foreign bodies of which two were coughed out, and the third one went into the gastrointestinal tract. Spontaneous expulsion of inhaled FB though is rare, can save the patient and relieves the condition, but it carries a high risk of possible FB entrapment in the larynx that may lead to patient’s death.

RESUMO

Infestation with leeches can happen due to drinking from spring water or other unhealthy water from non-hygienic sources or swimming in infested water like Wells and swamps, and can lead to several complications in the aerodigestive tract. Epistaxis, melena, and foreign body sensation had been reported in the literature as manifestations of this condition. We described a 12-year-old child presented to our department with dry cough and spitting of blood after swimming in the water pond of a Well that led to leech entry into the nasopharynx. Removal was done, and the patient became symptom free. Infestation with a leech can lead to variable symptoms in the aerodigestive tract like spitting of blood and irritation at the site of its attachment. Hence, leech should be put in mind in dealing with patients visiting physicians with the above symptoms, especially, if they come from rural areas that drink spring or Well water.
