Criterios de los estudiantes extranjeros en torno a su integración al proceso docente-educativo / Criteria of the foreign students regarding their integration to the teaching-educational process

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal de los 7 estudiantes extranjeros que matricularon en la Facultad de Estomatología de la Universidad Médica de Santiago de Cuba durante el curso escolar 2010- 2011, relacionado con los criterios en torno a su integración al proceso docente-educativo, con vistas a precisar algunas opiniones sobre su formación profesional, particularmente en el área clínica y la residencia estudiantil, incluyendo los valores que, a su juicio, contribuyen a desarrollar la estrategia educativa de la carrera. Todos los alumnos consideraron que presentaban una formación satisfactoria; casi la mitad de ellos refirieron sentirse bien en el área de beca y que participaban en las actividades culturales, deportivas y sociales programadas por la Federación Estudiantil Universitaria, de manera que existe una integración adecuada de estos educandos al proceso docente educativo.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study on the criteria around the integration to the teaching-educational process of the 7 foreign students who were registered in the Stomatology Faculty of the Medical University from Santiago de Cuba was carried out during the course 2010-2011. It was aimed at specifying some opinions on their professional training, particularly in the clinical area and the student residence, including the values that, in their opinion, contribute to develop the educational strategy of the career. All the students considered that they had a satisfactory training; almost half of them referred to feel well in the scholarship area and that they participated in the cultural, sport and social activities programmed by the University Students Federation, so that an appropriate integration exists from these students to the teaching educational process.

Conocimientos sobre salud bucal en pacientes del consultorio estomatológico Barrio Bolívar en Venezuela / Knowledge of oral health in patients of the dentist's office Barrio Bolívar in Venezuela

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal para determinar el nivel de conocimiento sobre salud bucal en 111 pacientes mayores de 15 años, que acudieron por primera vez desde agosto hasta octubre del 2006 a la consulta estomatológica en Barrio Bolívar, Parroquia Petare Norte, municipio de Sucre del estado Gran Caracas de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela. Se obtuvo que 98,2 por ciento de los pacientes tenían conocimiento no adecuado sobre las enfermedades bucales más frecuentes y su prevención; 88,3 por ciento sobre la importancia de los dientes, tejidos blandos bucales y autoexamen bucal; y la totalidad sobre los aspectos relacionados con la placa dentobacteriana. Se concluyó que el elevado porcentaje de pacientes con conocimientos no adecuados sobre salud bucal, justificó recomendar la creación de consultas para consejería bucal y desarrollar intervenciones educativas elevar la cultura sanitaria de esa población.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out to determine the knowledge level on oral health in 111 patients older than 15 years that went for the first time from August to October, 2006 to the dentist's office in Barrio Bolívar, Parroquia Petare Norte, Sucre municipality of Gran Caracas state of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. It was obtained that 98,2 per cent of the patients had non appropriate knowledge of the most frequent oral diseases and their prevention; 88,3 per cent of the importance of the teeth, oral soft tissue and oral self-examination; and the entirety of the aspects related to the plaque. The conclusion is that the high percentage of patients with non appropriate knowledge about oral health, justified to recommend the development of visits for oral counselling and to develop educational interventions to elevate that population's sanitary culture.
