RESUMO

A simple spectrophotometric method based on the reaction with Bromocresol Green [BCG] has been developed for determination of total alkaloids in medicinal plants. A yellow complex forms and is easily extractable by chloroform at pH 4.7. The absorbance of the complex obeys Bear's law over the concentration range of 4-13 micro g atropine per mL of choloroform. This procedure can be carried out in the presence of other compounds without interference

RESUMO

The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from the fruits of Pimpinella affinis Ledeb. [Apiaceae] was analyzed by gas chromatography [GC] and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry [GC-MS] techniques. Twenty-four components were identified in the essential oil of P. affinis Ledeb., whose major constituents were geijerene [17.68%], limonene [12.86%], pregeijerene [9.92%] germacrene D 8.54%] and trans-beta-ocimene [4.94%], The essential oil was evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities. The oil showed antimicrobial activity against all the tested micro-organisms, except Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Maximum activity was observed against fungal micro-organisms

RESUMO

The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam. growing in Iran was analysed by GC and GC/MS. Twenty-six components accounting to 97.62% of the total oil were identified. The major components were pulegone [36.45%], piperitenone [19.12%], Menth-2-en-1-o1 [5.31%], carvacrol [5.10%], neomenthol [4.78] and menthone [4.46%]. The essential oil was tested against Anopheles stephensi and Culex pipiens larvae. The results obtained show that the essential oil could be considered as natural larvicidal agent

RESUMO

The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from the aerial parts of Laurus nobilis L. has been examined by GC and GC/MS. The main components of the oil have been identified. 1, 8-cineole was the major component in the oil together with alpha-terpinyl acetate, terpinene-4-ol, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, p-cymene, linalool and terpinene-4-yl-acetate. The essential oil was tested against Anopheles stephensi and Culex pipiens larvae. The results obtained show that the essential oil could be considered as natural larvicidal agents
