Mieloma múltiple, otorrinolaringología y hueso temporal / Multiple myeloma, otolaryngology and temporal bone

Se presenta el caso clínico de una paciente portadora de un plasmocitoma costal, que se mantuvo bajo control y sin recidiva por 6 años. La primera manifestación de progresión a mieloma múltiple fue una otitis media con efusión, debido al compromiso osteolítico del hueso temporal por mieloma. Se hace una revisión de las enfermedades de células plásmáticas en cabeza y cuello, y de la literatura publicada sobre la afección del hueso temporal en mieloma múltiple y las demás discrasias de células plasmáticas.

Meningoencefalitis post estapedotomía: análisis de un caso clínico / Repeated episodes of meningoencephalitis after a stapedotomy: report of one case

Bacterial meningitis of otological origin is caused by the pass of bacteria from a suppurated otitis to the central nervous system. Patients subjected to otological surgery have a higher risk of contracting it. We report a 30 years old female with a history of non progressive long lasting hear loss in the left ear, that suffered two episodes of bacterial meningitis after being subjected to a stapedotomy. Temporal CAT scan revealed a malformation of the inner ear. An exploratory tympanostomy showed a perilymphatic fistula that was repaired.
