RESUMO

The study was aimed to identify the needs for hope and information among adults patient with cancer. The sample consisted [80] adults patient diagnosed with cancer and collected from Baghdad Teaching Hospital during 1st Feb. to 1st April, 2001.The questionnaire consists two parts of instrument demographic data and items related to hope and information from of needs assessment inventory [NAI].The questionnaire was tested for its validity and reliability. The main results of the study found that the patient with cancer needs for hope and information. So the investigator recommended that patient education and emotional support must be given for patients who diagnosed with cancer

RESUMO

A descriptive study was carried out from October 10th, 2002 through March 10th, 2003 in order to assess the scrub nurses' performance at the operating room [OR]. Fifty scrub nurses was the sample, selected from [5] teaching hospital in Baghdad. An assessment tool was constructed and it was comprised of [3] parts, which were dealing with demographic data, scrub nurses' performance [six domains]and the equipment and supplies availability in the operating room. The validity of the questionnaire was determined through panel of experts. Reliability of the questionnaire was tested at 0.92. Data were analyzed through the application of frequencies, percentage mean and Chi-square. The result of study revealed that the practices of scrub nurses were satisfactory in some domains [preparation of scrub nurses before entering OR, wearing clothes and gloves of operation, draping and sheet] and unsatisfactory in some domains [surgical hand scrub, practices concerned with preparation during surgery, antiseptic technique and surgical instruments]. The result also revealed that the scrub nurses practices were not significant related to years of experience and level of education.It was also found that there was shortage in some equipment and supplies, which were utilized by scrub nurses in the OR. The study recommended that scrub nurses should be provided with educational programs and materials can be distributed to staff concerning this issue, and providing hospitals with antiseptic solution for surgical hand scrub which kills pathogenic microorganism

RESUMO

The present study is descriptive analytical study aims at assessing of daily life problems [physical, functional, psychological and social] upon adult patients with acute and chronic leukemia who were under treatment and find relation to some socio-demographic characteristics. A questionnaire was prepared to achieve the purpose of this study, which was based on literature review, some psychometric properties and the results of a pilot study. The questionnaire consists of socio-Impact of Leukemia and Its Treatment upon Adult Patients and Their Daily Life Problems. The questionnaire was tested for its validity and reliability The sample of the study consisted of [160] adult patients with acute and chronic leukemia. The sample selected by purposive random from Baghdad Teaching Hospital/ Hematology out-patients department for the period from 1st Sep. 2000 to 28th Feb. 2001 The results of the study show that there are relationships of daily life problems with each other at [P<0.05]. The predominant of daily life problems among the acute leukemia[AL] group and chronic leukemia[CL] group were: psychological, social, physical and functional. The results indicated that, there were significant differences at level [P<0.05] between daily life problems and some socio-demographic characteristics such as: age, employment status and educational levels. The investigator recommended that, health education and emotional support must be given to those patients and their family to cope and adjust with their problems, and encouragement to participate in social activities and sexual activities for married patients
