RESUMO

Objective To investigate the expressions of microRNA-221 (miR-221) in the human pulmonary fibrosis tissues and in adenocarcinoma(A549) cells treated with transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGFβ1).Methods Real time-PCR was used to detect the expressions of miR-221 in pathologically diag nosed as pulmonary fibrosis tissue and in A549 cells treated with TGFβ1.Results miR-221 in pulmonary fibrosis tissue was downregulated compared to normal tissues (P < 0.05).The morphology of cells was changed from long spindle type to short, the number of cells was increased, and the adjacent cells were not connected closely.TGFβ1, N-cadherin, vimentin, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), collagen Ⅰ, and collagen Ⅲ levels were higher, whereas E-cadherin level was lower in TGFβ1-treated group compared to the control group.miR-221 expression was downregulated in cells after TGFβ1 treatment (P < 0.05).Conclusions miR-221 was downregulated in pulmonary fibrosis tissues and in A549 cells, which indicates that miR-221 may play an important role in the formation of pulmonary fibrosis.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the effect of education in pregnant women’s school on primipara mode of delivery and puerperal behavior. Methods Two hundred and twenty cases who delivered in our hospital and paid postpartum visits were divided into observation group and control group equally according to whether they had attended the pregnant women’s school. The observation group included those having attended the school and the control those who had not.The two groups were compared in terms of primipara mode of delivery and puerperal behavior. Results The rates of maternal vaginal delivery and cesarean section rate in observation group were 71.8%and 28.2%,both significantly higher than those of the control group(52.7%and 47.3%)(P<0.01).The rate of caesarean section due to social factors in the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).Besides,the observation group had higher rates of puerperiumal shampoo, showering, eating vegetables and fruits, brushing, use of air-conditioners than the control group did(all P<0.01).Conclusions Prenatal maternal health education in the pregnant women’s school affects puerperous behavior. It suggests that prenatal parturients actively participate in related education on maternal health care, which can help establish a good pregnancy and puerperium maternal behavior, reduce maternal cesarean section and thus help them live through puerperium.

RESUMO

BACKGROUNDCombination therapy is an effective method to reduce the blood pressure (BP) for patients with hypertension. This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of benazepril/lercanidipine compared with benazepril alone in patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension.

METHODSOne hundred and eighty-one patients with mild-to-moderate primary hypertension were assigned in this randomized, single-blind, parallel-group study and were randomly divided into group A (benazepril 10 mg/lercanidipine 10 mg) and group B (benazepril 10 mg) for 8 weeks. At 4 weeks, the dosage of Benazepril was titrated up to 20 mg if the diastolic blood pressure (DBP) remained ≥ 90 mmHg. BP control and side effects were evaluated at the end of 1, 4 and 8 weeks.

RESULTSThe baseline characteristics of the two groups were similar. The BP in both groups decreased from the baseline (P < 0.05). At the end of 4 and 8 weeks, Benazepril/Lercanidipine produced greater BP reduction than Benazepril alone (P < 0.05). The comparison of the rate of BP control for the benazepril/lercanidipine and benazepril groups at the end of 1, 4, and 8 weeks were 41.2% vs. 37.6% (P > 0.05), 67.1% vs. 44.7% (P < 0.05), and 71.8% vs. 45.9% (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference of side effects between the two groups.

CONCLUSIONThe benazepril/lercanidipine combination is more effective in reducing BP than benazepril alone, while it does not increase the incidence of side effects.

RESUMO

Cytosolic Ca(2+) ions play an important role in the regulation of numerous aspects of cellular activity in virtually all cell types. There is a complex interaction between the neuronal electrical signals on plasma membrane and the chemical signals of intracellular calcium. Each neuron can be considered as a binary membrane system with plasma membrane and endoplasmic reticulum membrane, and the neuronal endoplasmic reticulum can be regarded as a neuron-within-a-neuron. This review explores the simulation modeling of neuronal dynamics mutually coupled with the intracellular calcium signaling released from endoplasmic reticulum through the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor calcium channels. We show that a current trend is to include the intracellular calcium dynamics into the neuronal models, and the frontier of this research is now shifting to spatial neuronal models with diffusing intracellular calcium. It is expected that more important results will be obtained with the neuronal models incorporating the intracellular calcium dynamics, especially the spatial models considering the calcium diffusion both in soma and dendritic branches.
