RESUMO

BACKGROUND@#The effects of keto acid (KA) supplements on Chinese patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) are unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of KA supplementation on nutritional status, inflammatory markers, and bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) parameters in a cohort of Chinese patients with MHD without malnutrition.@*METHODS@#This was a prospective, randomized, controlled, single-center clinical study conducted in 2011 till 2014. Twenty-nine patients with MHD were randomly assigned to a control (n = 14) or a KA (n = 15) group. The control group maintained a dietary protein intake of 0.9 g/kg/day. The KA group received additional KA supplement (0.1 g/kg/day). BIA was used to determine the lean tissue mass, adipose tissue mass, and body cell mass. The patients' nutritional status, dialysis adequacy, and biochemical parameters were assessed at the ends of the third and sixth months with t test or Wilcoxon rank-sum test.@*RESULTS@#The daily total energy intake for both groups was about 28 kcal/kg/day. After 6 months, the Kt/V (where K is the dialyzer clearance of urea, t is the dialysis time, and V is the volume of the distribution of urea) was 1.33 ± 0.25 in KA group, and 1.34 ± 0.25 in the control group. The median triceps skin-fold thickness in KA group was 12.00 and 9.00 mm in the control group. In addition, the median hand-grip strength in KA group was 21.10 and 25.65 kg in the control group. There were no significant differences between the groups with respect to the anthropometry parameters, dialysis adequacy, serum calcium and phosphorus levels, inflammatory markers, and amino-acid profiles, or in relation to the parameters determined by BIA. Both groups achieved dialysis adequacy and maintained nutritional status during the study.@*CONCLUSIONS@#In this cohort of Chinese patients with MHD, the patients in the control group whose dietary protein intake was 0.9 g/kg/day and total energy intake was 28 kcal/kg/day, maintained well nutritional status during study period. The KA supplement (0.1 g/kg/day) did not improve the essential amino acid/non-essential amino acid ratio, nor did it change the patients' mineral metabolism, inflammatory parameters, or body compositions.

RESUMO

Objective: To elucidate the effect of sulfur fumigation on the content of chemical composition and quality of Panacis Quinquefolii Radix, and to discuss the identification method of sulfur fumigated Panacis Quinquefolii Radix. Method: The content changes of ginsenoside Rb1, Re, Rg1 in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix were determined by HPLC-DAD before and after sulfur fumigation. The content changes of 11 inorganic elements in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix before and after sulfur fumigation were detected by microwave digestion method and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry tandem mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The quality difference of Panacis Quinquefolii Radix before and after sulfur fumigation was qualitatively distinguished combined with the principal component analysis. Result: Three ginsenosides were well separated and showed good linearity with R2 ≥ 0.999.Before sulfur fumigation, the contents of ginsenoside Rg1, Re and Rb1 in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix were (0.897±0.045), (13.092±0.639), (12.896±0.430) g ·kg-1, respectively. After sulfur fumigation, the contents of these three components in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix were (0.807±0.032), (11.968±0.627), (11.752±0.696) g ·kg-1, respectively. After fumigation, the contents of inorganic elements (Cr, Mn, Co, Cu, As, Se, Ag, Cd, Sb, Pb and Fe) from Panacis Quinquefolii Radix increased in varying degrees. According to the distribution results of three-dimensional (3D) scattered points, sulfur and non-sulfur fumigation products of Panacis Quinquefolii Radix could be effectively distinguished. Conclusion: After sulfur fumigation, the contents of ginsenoside Re and Rb1 in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix decrease significantly, but the contents of 11 inorganic elements increase, suggesting that sulfur fumigation may have a great influence on the quality of Panacis Quinquefolii Radix.

RESUMO

Objective To provide evidence for the relationship between TMD and occlusal trauma by studying the mechanics influence and displacement of condyle by building the three dimensional finite element analysis model andstimulating the abnormal bite force leading occlusal trauma. Methods We collected DICOM date of healthy male volunteers with normal occlusal relationship using CBCT scan with constraint on condylar top and formed the finite model with divide mesh. Two conditions were built: (1) We operated different vertical load on the left mandibular molar occlusal surface; (2) We operated different buccal direction load on the same modelto study the mechanic change on left condylar. Results When the three dimensional finite model of mandible was built, the mechanic region of condyle stayed the same but the stress and tension increased accordingly as the loda duplicate rose. As the same buccal operation load was operated, the stress and tension became larger and the displacement became longer. Conclusion The abnormal bite force causing occlusal trauma can change mechanic conduct on condyle and lead to the pathological change of condyle.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the expression difference of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)between lung cancer and lung benign disease, and its relation to clinical characteristics and prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC),and to research the possible role of VEGF in the growth of lung can- cer. Methods The expression of VEGF and microvascular density(MVD)were detected in 60 lung cancer tissues and 30 lung benign disease tissues after operation by immunohistochemical method and put up statisti- cal analysis. Results The positive rate of VEGF expression(63%)and MVD(45.13?10.27)in lung cancer tissues were both higher than those in lung benign disease tissues(27%,33?6.49)(P
