Clinical observation of three-step modified shoulder joint mobilization for scapulohumeral periarthritis / 针灸推拿医学（英文版）

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of the three-step modified shoulder joint mobilization in treating scapulohumeral periarthritis (SP).Methods:Totally 80 subjects were recruited and divided into a treatment group and a control group by using the random number table, 40 in each group. The treatment group was intervened by the three-step modified shoulder joint mobilization; the control group was by oral administration of Celebrex. After successive 4-week treatment, the improvement of shoulder pain and motor function was observed.Results:The total effective rate was 87.5% in the treatment group versus 80.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:The three-step modified shoulder joint mobilization is easy-to-operate and effective in treating SP.

Clinical observation on acupuncture plus chiropractic treatment for cervical spondylosis / 针灸推拿医学（英文版）

Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of Governor Vessel-unblocking and yang-regulating acupuncture plus chiropractic treatment on upper cervical spondylosis. Methods:A total of 64 eligible cases were randomly allocated into an observation group (n=32) and a control group (n=32) according to the random digital table. Cases in the observation group were treated with Governor Vessel-unblocking and Yang-regulating needling method, fine adjustment of the upper cervical spine and lumbosacral Ban-pulling manipulation; cases in the control group were treated with routine acupuncture and same spinal adjustment as the observation group. The treatment was done once a day in both groups. The therapeutic efficacies were observed after 10 times of treatment. Results:The total effective rate was 78.1% in the observation group and 67.5% in the control group. The difference in the total effective rate between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion:Governor Vessel-unblocking and yang-regulating acupuncture and regulate yang plus chiropractic therapy is better than routine acupuncture plus chiropractic therapy in the therapeutic effect in the treatment of upper cervical spondylosis.

The antidiabetic effects of an herbal formula composed of Alnus hirsuta, Rosa davurica, Acanthopanax senticosus and Panax schinseng in the streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

A folk prescription consisting of Alnus hirsuta, Rosa davurica, Acanthopanax senticosus and Panax schinseng has been used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the antidiabetic effects of the herb formula extract (HFE) composed of Alnus hirsuta, Rosa davurica, Acanthopanax senticosus and Panax schinseng in the streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. The HFE was mixed in the food supply of the healthy and STZ-induced diabetic male Sprague-Dawley rats, and its effects on the body weight, water and food intake, hyperglycemia, hypolipidemic and islet structure were studied. The treatment of the rats with STZ for 6 weeks resulted in marasmus, polydipsia, polyphagia, hyperglycemia and hypoinsulinemia. In addition, the diabetic rats showed an apparent decrease in the insulin immunoreactivity and the number of beta-cells in the pancreas. The addition of the HFE to the rats' food supply significantly lowered the serum glucose and the serum triglycerides level and preserved the normal histological appearance of the pancreatic islets. These results indicate that the HEF have a strong antidiabetic potential along with the significant hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects, which may be applicable in the pharmaceutical industry.

Effects of bistortae ethanol extraction on cell cycle and apoptosis of ECV304 injured by hydrogen peroxide / 中国药理学通报

Aim To make ethanol from bistortae(EFB)from traditional Chinese medicine bistortae,and investigate the protection on the injury of the human umbiliar vein endothelial cell(ECV304)induced by hydrogen peroxide(H2O2).Methods ECV304 cells were cultured and divided by five experimental groups including normal,injury model induced by H2O2 and three pretreated groups with EFB;flow cytometry(FCM)methods Annexin V/PI staining and PI staining were used to analyze the effect of the medicine on the apoptosis and cell cycle;reverse transcription PCR(RT-PCR)was used to detect the mRNA expression level of apoptosis associated protein caspase-3 in all experiment-al groups.Results FCM Annexin V/PI staining result showed early and advanced stage apoptosis rate was lower when predisposed than that of the damaged group,FCM PI staining showed there were more cells in G0/G1 stage in oxidation damage group,but less in S stage,and hypodiploid peak could be observed,RT-PCR showed that the expression of caspase-3 was weakened when predisposed by EFB than without this disposal(P

Alteration of leukocyte iNOS-mRNA expression in rat with diabetic mellitus induced by streptozocin / 中国病理生理杂志

AIM: To clarify the relationship between expression of leukocyte iNOS-mRNA and pancreatic islet function in the diabetic rats induced by streptozocin(STZ). METHODS: Wistar rats were randomly divided into the control group ( n =10) and the diabetic group ( n =15). Expression of iNOS-mRNA in the peripheral blood leukocyte, liver and lung were detected with in situ hybridization and the blood sugar and insulin were also measured. RESULTS: It showed that the blood glucose content increased from (8 95?1 80) to (22 84?4 90) mmol?L -1 ,however, the plasma insulin content decreased from (81 76?20 12) to (58 92?18 20) mU?L -1 at the third day after the ? cell was disfunctioned by STZ injection. No expression of leukocyte iNOS-mRNA in normal rat was detected. The percent rate of positive cells were significantly increased in the rats with diabetes. CONCLUSION: The expression of leukocyte iNOS-mRNA is positively related to the damage of ? cells caused by STZ.

Inhibitory effects of Lobelia Chinensis Lour alkaloid on the proliferation of human umbilical artery vascular smooth muscle induced by endothelin-1 / 中国病理生理杂志

AIM: To investigate the effects of Lobelia Chinensis Lour alkaloid (LCLA) on the proliferation of cultured vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) induced by ET-1. METHODS: Human umbilical artery VSMC was cultured and divided into five groups: ET group, ET+LCLA group, ET+BQ-123 group,ET+ staurosporine (ST) group and control group. The cell proliferation activity was subsequently quantified by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and [3H]-TdR incorporation. Flow cytometry was used to examine cell cycle. Quantitative immunohistochemical technique was used to investigate the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and confocal microscope was used to measure the fluorescent intensity of Ca 2+. Cytotoxicity was measured by Trypan blue exclusion and LDH colorimetry tests.
