RESUMO

Objective The etiology and pathogenesis of recurrent aphtha ulcer (RAU) are not yet sufficiently clear and there has been no cure for it hitherto. This study aimed to compare the short-term effect of Kangfuxin Liquid (KFX) versus that of Beifuji Solution (BFJ, a topical solution of the recombinant bovine alkaline fibroblast growth factor) on refractory minor RAU (RMiRAU).Methods This prospective study included 150 cases of RMiRAU treated in Nanjing Hospital of Stomatology between March 2016 and June 2018. The patients were randomized into five groups of equal number: KFX, BFJ, oral control (oral isotonic saline), topical control (topical isotonic saline), and blank control (not treated). We measured the ulcer area and obtained the pain index at 1, 3, 5 and 7 days of treatment. We also recorded the onset time and duration of analgesia as well as the course of ulcer after initial medication. Results At 3, 5, and 7 days after treatment, the ulcer areas in the KFX group, significantly smaller than in the oral control and blank control groups, and also smaller in the BFJ than in the topical control and blank control groups (P<0.05). At 3 and 5 days, the pain indexes were (3.35±1.23) and (2.32±1.80) in the BFJ group, significantly lower than (5.08±1.83) and (3.53±1.50) in the topical control and (5.50±1.69) and (3.79±1.34) in the blank control group (P<0.05), and lower in the KFX than in the oral control ([5.29±1.73] and [3.74±1.42]) and blank control groups (P<0.05);On day 3, the pain index of the BFJ group is much smaller than the KFX liquid group (P<0.05). The course of ulcer after initial medication was remarkably shorter, the onset of analgesia significantly later, and duration of analgesia markedly shorter in the KFX than in the BFJ group (all P<0.05).Conclusion Both KFX and BFJ have a good short clinical effect on RAU. KFX has advantage in decreasingulcer duration; BFJ has fast onset time and long maintenance time.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of end time of night feeding on body height, body weight, nutritional status, and prevalence rate of dental caries in children at the age of 30 months.

METHODSA total of 416 children who were born from January 2014 to September 2015 and had completed a physical examination as required were enrolled. During the physical examination performed at the age of 30 months, the comprehensive child care record and a self-made questionnaire were used. The children who continued to receive night feeding after the age of 6 months were enrolled as study group (n=269), and those for whom night feeding was ended at the age of 6 months were enrolled as control group (n=147). The two groups were compared in terms of body height, body weight, incidence rate of overweight/obesity, and prevalence rate of dental caries at the age of 30 months.

RESULTSCompared with the control group, the study group had a significantly lower body height (92.4±3.0 cm vs 93.3±2.8 cm; P<0.05), a significantly higher incidence rate of overweight/obesity (23.8% vs 12.2%; P<0.05), and a significantly higher prevalence rate of dental caries (14.9% vs 7.5%; P<0.05) at the age of 30 months.

CONCLUSIONSNight feeding continued after the age of 6 months can affect the growth and development of infants/toddlers, cause overnutrition, and increase the prevalence rate of dental caries.

RESUMO

After teeth are replanted, there are two possible healing responses: periodontal ligament healing or ankylosis with subsequent replacement resorption. The purpose of this study was to compare the fatigue resistance of vertically fractured teeth after bonding the fragments under conditions simulating both healing modes. Thirty-two human premolars were vertically fractured and the fragments were bonded together with Super-Bond C&B. They were then randomly distributed into four groups (BP, CP, CA, BA). The BP and CP groups were used to investigate the periodontal ligament healing mode whilst the BA and CA groups simulated ankylosis. All teeth had root canal treatment performed. Metal crowns were constructed for the CP and CA groups. The BP and BA groups only had composite resin restorations in the access cavities. All specimens were subjected to a 260 N load at 4 Hz until failure of the bond or until 2 × 10⁶ cycles had been reached if no fracture occurred. Cracks were detected by stereomicroscope imaging and also assessed via dye penetration tests. Finally, interfaces of the resin luting agent were examined by scanning electron microscope. The results confirmed that the fatigue resistance was higher in the groups with simulated periodontal ligament healing. Periodontal reattachment showed important biomechanical role in bonded and replanted vertically fractured teeth.

RESUMO

Laugier-Hunziker syndrome (LHS) is an acquired pigmentary condition affecting lips, oral mucosa and acral area, frequently associated with longitudinal melanonychia. There is neither malignant predisposition nor underlying systemic abnormality associated with LHS. Herein, we present three uncommon cases of LHS with possibly new feature of nail pigmentation, which were diagnosed during the past 2 years. We also review the clinical and histological findings, differential diagnosis, and treatment of the syndrome in published literature.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of sodium butyrate (NaB) on inhibition of human oral squamous carcinoma cell line.

METHODSHuman oral squamous carcinoma cell line Tca8113 was treated with different concentration of NaB. Light microscope was used to observe the morphological changes of the carcinoma cells. The cell cycle was analyzed by flow cytometry. Expression of p27(Kip1) was determined with immunocytochemical assay.

RESULTSNaB significantly inhibited the proliferation of Tca8113 in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Tca8113 cells treated with NaB was arrested in G(0)-G(1) phase. The fraction of cells in G(0)-G(1) were (63.2 ± 2.4)% and (77.2 ± 3.8)% after treated with NaB at the concentration of 2 and 4 mmol/L alternatively, whereas (48.1 ± 2.4)% in G(0)-G(1) phase were observed in control group (P < 0.05). The expression of p27(Kip1) was markedly up-regulated after being treated with NaB.

CONCLUSIONSNaB treatment can inhibit the growth of oral squamous carcinoma cell line in vitro and induce cell cycle arrest, which might be associated with the increased expression of p27(Kip1) protein.
