RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo screen for the optimal dose of benzene and cyclophosphamide using an orthogonal design for establishment of New Zealand rabbit models of aplastic anemia.

METHODSFollowing an orthogonal experimental design, the effects of 3 levels of 4 factors, namely the dose of benzene (A), the dose of cyclophosphamide (B), the number of benzene injections (C), and the number of cyclophosphamide injections (D) were tested in the establishment of New Zealand rabbit models of aplastic anemia using a L(3) orthogonal table, and the optimal protocol for the model establishment was selected from the 9 experimental groups. Each rabbit received subcutaneous injection of benzene on the back every other day, followed by daily cyclophosphamide injection via the ear vein for prescribed times. The blood routine was examined every 6 days, and before modeling and at 36 days after modeling, a small sample of the femoral bone was collected for bone marrow histopathological examination.

RESULTSComparison of the white blood cell, erythrocyte and platelet counts among the 9 groups showed successful modeling in Groups 4-9, and daily mean reduction rates of the cell counts in Groups 7, 8, and 9 differed significantly from those in the other groups (P<0.05). In Group 7, bone marrow sections showed low myelodysplasia, reduced hematopoietic tissue, reduced or even absence of megakaryocytes, and increased fat cells. Further observation found that the rabbits in Group 7 had sustained bone marrow suppression, consistent with the clinical characteristics of the disease.

CONCLUSIONStable models of aplastic anemia can be established efficiently in New Zealand rabbits by a combination of 8 subcutaneous injections of benzene at 1.5 mL/kg and 4 intravenous injections of cyclophosphamide at 10 mg/kg.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy of water knife needle release combined with bone peptide injection in the management of heel pain.

METHODSThirty-five patients with unilateral heel pain were treated with water knife needle release and bone peptide injection under local anesthesia. The deep tissue with the tenderness was released in the operation, and the result was evaluated 1 week after the surgery to decide whether to conduct another surgery. No more than 3 treatment sessions were administered. The efficacy was evaluated according to nimodipine method by the principles of Chinese clinical drug guidance, and the complications of the surgery were observed.

RESULTSSix months after the surgery, 28 cases had excellent results, 3 had good outcomes, 2 showed improvement, and 2 failed to respond favorably, with a rate of good and excellent result of 94.2%. No adverse side effect was recorded in the follow up of the patients.

CONCLUSIONWater needle knife release combined with bone peptide injection can produce a good result in the treatment of heel pain.

RESUMO

Primary Hepatic Carcinoma(PHC)is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world.Nowadays, its incidence and mortality have been still increasing. With regard to the early treatment for PHC,the combined therapy, primarily referred to operation,is considered optimal. For recent decades, with the quick development of ultrasonic therapeutics,High Intensity Focused Ultrasound(HIFU)techniques, which rose newly, has already become a kind of effective and noninvasive substitution therapy for PHC operation therapy as a kind of noninvasive tumor therapy. Now,this literature review aims to summarize the found re- search and clinical research of HIFU therapy for primary hepatic carcinoma.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound in repairing injured articular cartilage.

METHODSTen adult New Zealand rabbits with bilateral full-thickness osteochondral defects on the cartilage surface of intercondylar fossas were used in this study. The wounds in the left knees were treated with low-intensity pulsed ultrasound as the experimental group. The right knees received no treatment as the control group. All the animals were killed at 8 weeks after injury and the tissues in the wounds were collected for gross appearance grading, histological grading and proteoglycan quantity.

RESULTSThe scores of the gross appearance grades, histological grades and the optical density of toluidine blue of the tissues in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the controls at 8 weeks after injury (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSLow-intensity pulsed ultrasound can accelerate the repair of injured articular cartilage.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo study high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in the treatment of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

METHODSFifty patients with unresectable HCC (TNM stage IV) were randomized into a TACE (T) group and a TACE plus HIFU (T + H) group. Twenty-six patients underwent TACE alone, and 24 HIFU ablation 2 - 3 weeks after TACE. The mean follow-up time for all patients was 8.16 +/- 2.79 months (range 3 to 24 months). The median survival, 6-month-, 1-year survival rates and average survival of patients who died were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method and Fisher exact test.

RESULTSThe median survival time, 6-month and 1-year survival rates were 11.3 months, 80.4 - 85.4% and 42.9% in T + H group, in contrast to 4 months, 13.2% and 0% in T group with significant differences (P < 0.01). The average survival time of patients who died was 10.21 +/- 4.12 months in T + H group, as compared with 4.35 +/- 2.39 months in T group also with significant differences (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONHigh intensity focused ultrasound therapy (HIFU) combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), being better than TACE alone, may become one of the most effective treatments for patients with unresectable HCC.

RESUMO

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of focused ultrasound for patients with white lesions of the vulva,as well as its safety and feasibility. Methods Clinical data of 941 patients with white lesions of the vulva treated with focused ultrasound from June 2003 to December 2005 were retrospectively reviewed. The mean age of the patients was 40.8 years(18-70 years)and the median course of the disease was 6.2 years(3 months-45 years).Meanwhile, pathological diagnosis was performed in all the patients before treatment,in which 498 cases were squamous hyperplasia,342 cases were lichen sclerosus and 101 cases were lichen sclerosus with squamous hyperplasia.Patients were followed up and therapeutic effects of focused ultrasound was evaluated at 6 and 12 months after the treatment, respectively. The symptoms of pruritus in the vulva and the changes in the color and elasticity of the vulvar lesions were observed. Results Of all the patients,900 were followed up after the treatment, and the ratio of effectiveness was 94.9%.Only 46 patients(5.1%)had no response to the therapy.Of the effective patients,434 cases were completely cured(48.2%),and 420 cases were improved(46.7%).Pruritus of vulva recurred in 101 patients (11.2%)one year after treatment;however, these patients still had a response to the second or third treatment. Conclusions Focused ultrasound therapy is a highly effective instrument in treatment of white lesions of the vulva. It can not only relieve the symptoms of itching, but is also helpful in recovering the color and elasticity of the vulva.
