RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Xuezhikang (, XZK) on renal cell apoptosis in diabetic rats and the possible mechanism.

METHODSSixty-six rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: the normal, model and XZK groups. In each group, the rats were further randomly divided into 3-month and 6-month subgroups, respectively. Diabetes of rats was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of 1% streptozocin at 60 mg/kg body weight. Rats in the XZK group received gastric perfusion of XZK (1200 mg/kg body weight) everyday for 3 or 6 months, while rats in the normal and model groups received equal volume of saline. Twenty-four hours' urine was collected for urinary albumin excretion (UAE) measurement. Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) and Masson's trichrome staining were used for saccharides and collagen detection. Cell apoptosis of renal cortex was investigated by TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining. Bax and Bcl-2 expressions were detected by immunohistochemistry and Western blot, respectively. Cytochrome C (Cyt C) and caspase-9 concentration were detected by Western blot.

RESULTSCompared with the model group, XZK treatment could significantly decrease the kidney hypertrophy index, 24 h UAE, renal cell apoptosis, cytoplasmic Cyt C level and active caspase-9 level, as well as suppress the increment of Bax and up-regulate the expression of Bcl-2, leading to the suppression of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio at 3 and 6 months (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Moreover, XZK treatment could alleviate the deposition of PAS-stained saccharides and Masson's trichromestained collagen to different extent.

CONCLUSIONSRenal cell apoptosis was observed in diabetic kidney, in which mitochondrial apoptotic pathway might be involved. XZK treatment could attenuate pathological changes in diabetic kidney and reduce renal cell apoptosis, probably via the suppression of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, which lead to inhibition of Cyt C release and following caspase-9 activation.

RESUMO

The systematic position of Fritillaria hupehensis has been in dispute. Phylogentic analyses were conducted on sequences of ITS, rpl16, matK sequences for species of F. hupehensis and allies. Lilium davidii was designed as outgroup. The analyses were performed using MP and ML methods. Conclusions could be achieved as follow. The topologies of MP and ML are consistent. The samples of F. hepehensis from different places form a supported clade with a strong bootstrap. And then form a strongly supported clade with F. anhuiensis, F. monantha. The results suggests that although F. hupehensis has a closet relation with the two ones, it exists some difference.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To analyze the difference between the cognitive and control ability and the responsibility in forensic psychiatry evaluation.@*METHODS@#To compare the results of the responsibility evaluation from 2001.1 to 2006.10 (the first period) with that of the cognitive and control ability evaluation from 2006.11 to 2010.10 (the second period). The admissibility opinions on court judgment and evaluation were investigated by return visit. The legal professions' opinions on forensic psychiatric issues from the police office, the procuratorate, the court, and the judiciary were investigated.@*RESULTS@#There was no significant difference of the criminal types between two periods (P > 0.05). There was significant difference of the diagnostic types between two periods (P < 0.05). The proportion of normal range and part loss of the cognitive and control ability in the second period were higher than that in the first period, but the proportion of complete loss of the cognitive and control ability in the second period was lower than that in the first period (P < 0.05). Among the legal professions, 70.5% of them thought that "the evaluation of cognitive and control ability" was different from "the evaluation of criminal responsibility" and 94.9% of them thought that "to confirm the influence of the forensic psychiatric evaluation of mental disorder on the crime behavior" or "to assess of cognitive and control ability" met requirements of normative judicial expertise.@*CONCLUSION@#The evaluation of cognitive and control ability is more aligned with legal requirements and behavioral norms of own subject than the evaluation of responsibility.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility and safety of endoscopic thyroidectomy via the areola of breast approach.

METHODSBetween April 2005 to September 2008, endoscopic thyroidectomy via the areola of breast approach was performed in 28 female patients. Of the patients, 25 cases presented with nodular goiter, 2 cases with Grave's disease and 1 case with minimum papillary carcinoma. The average age was 22.5 years (range, 18-38 years). A 10 mm trocar was placed on the medial border of the areola of the right breast for the video-endoscopy and removing specimens, and a 5 mm trocar was placed on the lateral border of the areola of the same breast as the assisted operation hole. Another 5 mm trocar was placed on the medial border of the areola of left breast as the main operation hole. The operation data was recorded and analyzed.

RESULTSAll the 28 operations were successful. The procedures included one lobe total thyroidectomy in 5 cases, one lobe subtotal thyroidectomy in 15 cases, subtotal thyroidectomy in 3 cases, one lobe near total thyroidectomy + the other lobe subtotal thyroidectomy in 4 cases, and one lobe total thyroidectomy + the central group lymph node resection + the other lobe subtotal thyroidectomy in 1 case. The average operation time was 60.7 minutes (range, 40-125 minutes), the average operation blood loss was 5.8 ml (range, 2-15 ml), the average length of post-operative hospital stay was 3.1 days (range, 2-5 days). No adverse effects was found after the operation, such as damage to the parathyroid gland and the laryngeal nerve. The patients were followed-up for 1 to 40 months with satisfactory results. All 28 patients were satisfied with the cosmetic effects of the operation.

CONCLUSIONSEndoscopic thyroidectomy via the areola of breast approach produces an outstanding cosmetic effect, it is safe and feasible.
