Objective@#To explore the longitudinal correlation between smartphone multitasking and depressive symptoms, so as to provide an evidence based basis for promoting the mental health of college students.@*Methods@#A total of 967 college students were recruited from one university in Taiyuan, Chongqing, and Shenzhen cities, China, by using multi stage randomized cluster sampling from October to December 2021 at baseline, and a follow up survey was conducted in May 2022. Smartphone multitasking behaviors were assessed by means of the Assessment of Smartphone Multitasking for Adolescents (ASMA), and depressive symptoms were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) among college students. Chi square tests were performed to compare the differences in depressive symptoms between different groups of demographic characteristics, and binary Logistic regression models were employed to analyze the associations between smartphone multitasking and depressive symptoms among college students.@*Results@#The rates of depressive symptoms among college students at baseline and follow up were 35.2% and 42.3%, respectively. Compared to the low level smartphone multitasking index group at baseline, the moderate and high level groups were more likely to experience depressive symptoms at baseline (moderate level group: OR=1.74, 95%CI =1.22-2.50, high level group: OR=2.77, 95%CI =1.94-3.95) and followup (moderate level group: OR=1.41, 95%CI =1.01-1.95, high level group: OR=1.64, 95%CI =1.17-2.29) ( P <0.05). In addition, compared to the persistently low smartphone multitasking index, increased risk of depressive symptoms was associated with maintaining a moderate to high ( OR=2.94, 95%CI =1.83-4.71), and a higher ( OR=2.07, 95%CI =1.31-3.27) or lower smartphone multitasking index ( OR=2.02, 95%CI =1.27-3.19) ( P <0.05). Moreover, higher smartphone multitasking index scores were positively associated with the risk of new-onset depressive symptoms at follow up ( OR=1.87, 95%CI=1.07-3.27, P <0.05).@*Conclusions@#Smartphone multitasking behaviors are find to be associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms in college students. There is a need to reduce smartphone multitasking in order to decrease depressive symptoms and promote students mental health.

Objective@#To explore the association among neck-shoulder pain (NSP), low back pain (LBP) and co occurring symptoms with mental sub health in adolescents, so as to provide evidence for improving physical and mental health of adolescents.@*Methods@#Stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 7 986 students from 12 middle and high schools in Shenzhen, Nanchang, and Shenyang cities from October to December 2019. The Assessment of Spinal Health of Youth (ASHY) and the Brief Instrument on Psychological Health of Youth (BIOPHY) were used to assess NSP, LBP and mental sub health. Binary Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between NSP, LBP and co occurring symptoms with mental sub health in adolescents.@*Results@#The detection rates of adolescents with NSP, LBP and co occurring symptoms and mental sub health were 9.1% , 9.8%, 9.5%, and 10.0%, respectively. The co occurring rate of neck shoulder pain, low back pain and mental sub health was 3.2%. After adjusting for confounding variables such as gender, age, being an only child, family residence, and parental education level, NSP ( OR=6.01, 95%CI =5.02-7.19), LBP ( OR=5.08, 95%CI =4.25-6.07), and co occurring symptoms ( OR= 5.96 , 95%CI =4.98-7.12) in adolescents were positively correlated with mental sub health risk ( P <0.01). Stratifying the gender, boys with NSP, LBP and co occurring symptoms ( OR =6.84, 5.80, 6.74)had a higher risk of mental sub health compared to girls ( OR =5.52, 4.65, 5.49) ( P <0.01).@*Conclusions@#NSP, LBP and co occurring symptoms in adolescents are associated with mental sub health. The mental health status of boys is more affected by NSP, LBP and their co occurring symptoms. Measures should be taken to improve spinal health in adolescents to reduce the incidence of mental sub health.

Objective@#To describe the prevalence and association of dietary rhythm and depressive symptoms among adolescents, so as to provide a basis for improving unhealthy behavioral habits,and to promote adolescent physical and mental health.@*Methods@#From October to December 2021, a total of 22 868 students were selected from one middle school and high school in urban and rural areas of eight cities, namely, Shenyang, Xuzhou, Shenzhen, Taiyuan, Nanchang, Zhengzhou, Chongqing, and Kunming cities, China, using a combination of purposive sampling and stratified cluster random sampling. A self administered questionnaire was used to assess adolescents dietary rhythm, and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) was used to assess depressive symptoms. Binary Logistic regression model was employed to analyze the associations between adolescent dietary rhythm and depressive symptoms, while the associations between adolescent dietary rhythm and depressive symptoms across gender and physical activity levels were stratified by gender and physical activity levels.@*Results@#The detection rate of depressive symptoms in adolescents was 44.4%. The respective differences in the detection rates of depressive symptoms among adolescents of different genders, physical activity levels, and dietary rhythm disorders were statistically significant ( χ 2=157.51, 105.02, 3 282.50, P <0.01). Taking the low disordered dietary rhythm group as the reference, binary Logistic regression analyses showed that after adjusting for confounding factors such as age, gender,family location, family economic situation, whether only child, parental education level, and learning burden, physical activity levels, depressive symptoms were positively correlated with adolescents in the moderate disordered dietary rhythm group ( OR=2.63, 95%CI =2.45-2.83) and the high disordered dietary rhythm group ( OR=6.38, 95%CI = 5.93- 6.86). In addition, after stratifying by gender, dietary rhythm were positively correlated with depressive symptoms. The moderate disordered group (male: OR=2.62, 95%CI =2.37-2.89, female: OR=2.67, 95%CI =2.40-2.97) and the highly disordered group (male: OR=5.74, 95%CI =5.19-6.35, female: OR=7.11, 95%CI =6.40-7.89) were positively correlated with depressive symptoms. After stratification by physical activity levels, low, moderate and above physical activity levels among adolescents in the disordered dietary rhythm group (low physical activity: OR=2.91, 95%CI =2.58-3.29, moderate and above physical activity: OR= 2.50, 95%CI =2.28-2.74), high disordered group (low physical activity: OR=6.51, 95%CI =5.94- 7.13 , moderate and higher physical activity: OR=6.18, 95%CI =5.47-6.97) were positively associated with depressive symptoms ( P <0.01). There was an interaction between dietary rhythm and physical activity levels in regard to the development of depressive symptoms in adolescents, taking the group with moderate and above physical activity levels and low disordered dietary rhythm as the reference,the detection rate of which was higher in adolescents with low levels of physical activity and those in the moderate or high disordered dietary rhythm group ( OR=1.50, 3.90, 95%CI=1.39-1.61, 3.63-4.19, P <0.01).@*Conclusions@#Dietary rhythm disorders were found to be positively associated with depressive symptoms in adolescents. Regular dietary behaviors and increased physical activity play an important positive role in promoting adolescent mental health.

Abstract@#Adolescence is a unique transitional period from childhood to adulthood, during which behavioral habits and physiological cycles undergo significant changes, and biorhythms are vulnerable to be disrupted. Meanwhile, due to increased rates of overweight and obesity, cardiovascular metabolic risk significantly increases during adolescence. The article reviews the prevalence, correlation, and potential epigenetic regulatory mechanisms of biorhythm disorders and adolescent cardiovascular metabolic health, providing a theoretical basis for regulating biorhythm to promote adolescent cardiovascular metabolic health.

Objective@#To describe the prevalence and the association of sleep quality trajectory, social jetlag and comorbid symptoms of anxiety and depression among college students, in order to provide a theoretical basis for improving the comorbid symptoms of anxiety and depression in college students.@*Methods@#A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1 135 college students from two universities in Shangrao, Jiangxi Province and Hefei, Anhui Province from April to May 2019, and were followed up once every one year for a total of three times, with a valid sample size of 1 034 individuals after matching with the baseline survey. A selfassessment questionnaire was used to investigate the social jetlag of college students, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) were used to evaluate anxiety and depression symptoms, respectively, while the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess sleep quality. College students with GAD-7 score ≥5 and PHQ-9 score ≥5 were defined as having comorbid anxiety and depression symptoms. Latent class growth model (LCGM) was employed to analyze the sleep quality trajectory of college students, and binary Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between social jetlag, sleep quality trajectory and comorbid symptoms of anxiety and depression.@*Results@#The detection rate of comorbid symptoms of anxiety and depression among college students was 16.9%, and the detection rate of social jetlag ≥2 h was 13.8%. The sleep quality showed an overall improvement trend, and the two trajectories were good sleep quality (81.6%) and poor sleep quality (18.4%). Binary Logistic regression model showed that poor sleep quality and social jetlag ≥2 h were positively correlated with comorbid symptoms of anxiety and depression (OR=5.94, 1.84, P<0.05).@*Conclusions@#Poor sleep quality and social jetlag ≥2 h in college students increase the risk of comorbid symptoms of anxiety and depression. Early screening and intervention of sleep quality and reduction of social jetlag are crucial for enhancing the mental health of college students.

Abstract@#Prevention and control of myopia is the key to delaying its occurrence and progression. Understanding the causes of myopia and its related mechanisms is conducive to better prevention and control. The acceleration of urbanization and increased time in indoor environments have become significant factors for the lack of highfrequency visual information, which constitutes new etiological considerations. Therefore, the study focuses on the research progress on the association between highfrequency visual information and myopia in different scene environments, and further explores the etiology of insufficient highfrequency visual information in myopia from the perspectives of contrast sensitivity, ON-OFF visual pathways, and gene expression, so as to provide reference for carrying out targeted myopia prevention and control measures in different scenarios.

Objective@#To describe the association of different sleep characteristics and cardiometabolic risk among college students, so as to provide reference for health promotion of college students.@*Methods@#By random cluster sampling method, a questionnaire survey and physical examination including blood pressure, waist circumference and blood lipid indicators, which were conducted in April and May of 2019 among a total of 1 179 college students from the first grade in two universities in Hefei City of Anhui Province and Shangrao City of Jiangxi Province. A total of 729 college students with valid questionnaires were included into analysis. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) were used to investigate sleep behavior, and the Morning And Evening Questionnaire-5 (MEQ-5) was used to investigate sleep characteristics. The cardiometabolic risk score was derived using the sum of the standardized sex specific Z scores of waist circumference, mean arterial pressure, HDL cholesterol (multiplied by -1), triglycerides, and insulin resistance index. The rank sum tests were used to compare differences in cardiometabolic risk scores across demographic characteristics. Generalized linear models were used to compare the association of different sleep characteristics with cardiometabolic risk scores among college students.@*Results@#The average cardiovascular metabolic risk score of college students was -0.32(-2.03, 1.58). There were statistically significant differences in cardiovascular metabolic risk scores among college students in variables such as smoking, health status, and physical activity levels ( t/F=-3.41, 12.88, 51.07, P <0.01). The results of the generalized linear model showed that nighttime preference ( B=1.89, 95%CI =1.02-3.49), insomnia symptoms ( B=3.25, 95%CI =1.79-5.90), and short or long sleep duration ( B=1.92, 95%CI =1.21-3.05) were positively correlated with the cardiovascular metabolic risk score of college students ( P <0.05).@*Conclusions@#Poor sleep patterns among college students are positively correlated with the risk of cardiovascular metabolism. The sleep behavior of college students should be actively changed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Objective@#To analyze the influencing factors and physical and mental development of preschool children with iron deficiency anemia in Dongguan, so as to provide a reference for the prevention of iron deficiency anemia among preschool children.@*Methods@#A total of 118 preschool children with iron deficiency anemia who were examined in Dongguan Maternal and Child Health Center from January 2022 to December 2022 were enrolled in the anemia group, and 118 preschool healthy children who were examined in the hospital at the same time were enrolled in the control group. The physical and mental development of the children were evalucded in both groups. Demographic information and household per capita income were collected. The relationship between risk factors and iron deficiency anemia was analyzed by univariate analysis and multiple Logistic regression.@*Results@#The scores of fine motor skills, gross motor skills, adaptability, social communication, language ability and developmental quotient of children in anemia group were significantly lower than those in control group ( t =4.14, 5.46, 5.60, 5.50, 4.90, 5.83, P <0.01). The difference in scores of adaptability, fine motor skills, gross motor skills language ability, social communication and developmental quotient between the two groups increased with age ( F =390.56, 414.63, 437.35, 409.68, 407.20, 404.54, P < 0.05 ). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that household income, history of past digestive disease, gestational age, maternal anemia during pregnancy, maternal education, consumption of meat, eggs and milk, and intake of nuts were all associated with iron deficiency anemia among preschool children in Dongguan ( OR =2.23,2.99,3.99,3.56,3.11,1.68,1.61, P < 0.05 ).@*Conclusion@#The physical and mental development of preschool children with iron deficiency anemia in Dongguan is slower than that of non anemia children of the same age, and the development delay becomes more obvious with increasing age. Attention should be paid to the prevention of iron deficiency anemia among preschool children. It is important to provide reasonable dietary guidance for children with high risk factors such as digestive disease history and prematurity.

The determinants of obesity are complicated, and its association with built environment in community has received great concern in recent years. To provide theoretical basis for building supportive environment beneficial for obesity prevention, the review summarizes obesity related built environment, including food environment, physical activity environment, road traffic environment, lighting at night.

Objective@#The study aimed to describe the prevalence of mobile phone use and depressive symptoms and to examine the bidirectional associations between the two among college students, providinb evidence for mental health promotion among college students.@*Methods@#A longitudinal study with follow up at 6 month intervals was conducted in 1 135 students from 2 universities in Hefei, Anhui Province and Shangrao, Jiangxi Province who were selected between April and May 2019. The last follow up was conducted between April and May 2021 based on questionnaire survey, and 999 valid participants were obtained after matching. The self designed questionnaire was used to investigate the duration of cellular phone use and use of cellular phone functions among college students. The Self rating Questionnaire for Adolescent Problematic Mobile Phone Use (SQAPMPU) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were used to assess cellular phone dependence and depressive symptoms among college students. Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the correlation between cellular phone use behavior and depressive symptoms at baseline and 2 years later; linear regression model was used to analyze the linear association between cellular phone use behavior and depressive symptoms scores; autoregressive cross lagged model was used to analyze the bidirectional associations between cellular phone use behaviors and depressive symptoms among college students over time.@*Results@#The prevalence of mobile phone dependence and depressive symptoms among college students at baseline were 24.3% and 42.4%, respectively. The mean duration of mobile phone use among college students at baseline and the 2 year follow up were (2.84±0.90)h/d and (2.02±1.05)h/d, respectively; the mean scores of mobile phone dependence were (23.30±9.00) and (23.29±10.45), respectively; the mean scores of mobile phone function use were (30.12±6.66) and (29.12±7.27), respectively; and the mean scores of depressive symptoms were (4.51±4.76) and (2.61±4.40), respectively. Pearson correlation analysis showed there were significant positive correlations between duration of cellular phone use, cellular phone dependence, use of cellular phone functions at baseline or 2 years later and depressive symptoms 2 years later( r =0.08-0.50, P <0.05). Linear regression models showed a significant positive association between cellular phone dependence at baseline and depressive symptoms ( β=0.26, 95%CI =0.23-0.29) at baseline and 2 years later ( β=0.12, 95%CI =0.09-0.15). Autoregressive cross lagged models showed that cellular phone dependence at baseline positively predicted depressive symptoms 2 years later ( β =0.04) and depressive symptoms at baseline positively predicted cellular phone dependence 2 years later( β =0.23)( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#There was a bidirectional association between cellular phone dependence and depressive symptoms among college students. Reducing cellular phone dependence is of positive significance for improving college students mental health.

Objective@#To describe the prevalence and association of sleep quality and anxiety-depression co-morbid symptoms among nursing students, in order to provide a reference basis for promoting the development of nursing students mental health.@*Methods@#Using a prospective study design, baseline survey was conducted in January 2019 among a random cluster sample of 1 716 individuals in three medical universities in Hefei, Anhui Province, and a follow-up survey was conducted in October 2019, with a valid number of 1 573 individuals after matching with the baseline survey. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess nursing students sleep quality, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) to assess the anxiety-depression comorbid symptoms.@*Results@#The detection rates of anxiety-depression co-morbidities among nursing students at baseline and follow-up survey were 16.9% and 18.2%, respectively, and the detection rates of poor sleep quality among nursing students at baseline and follow-up survey were 10.1% and 10.3%, respectively. The results of the binary Logistic regression model showed that baseline PSQI score were positively associated with the risk of anxiety-depression co-morbid symptoms among nursing students at baseline ( OR=1.49, 95%CI =1.40-1.59) and after nine months of follow-up ( OR=1.22, 95%CI =1.16-1.28). Furthermore, the influence of baseline sleep quality on the risk of anxiety-depression co-morbid symptoms were mainly concentrated in the five dimensions of sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep disorders, hypnotic drugs and daytime dysfunction, and such effects of sleep time, sleep disorders and daytime dysfunction still existed in the follow-up investigation.@*Conclusion@#Poor sleep quality of nursing students can increase the risk of anxiety-depression co-morbidities. Improving sleep quality of nursing students has a positive effect on improving their mental health.

Objective@#To develop a simplified Rating Questionnaire of Social Ecological Risks in Adolescents and to evaluate the reliability and predictive validity of the brief questionnaire, so as to provide data and evidence support for building the evaluation system of cumulative social ecological risk exposure.@*Methods@#A large cross sectional was conducted in eight areas, including Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Xuzhou, Nanchang, Shenyang, Taiyuan, Kunming and Chongqing, from October to December 2021. A total of 22 868 adolescents were included in the analysis. Data on healthy behaviors from 10 838 adolescents from Shenyang, Taiyuan, Kunming, Chongqing were used for item selection, based on factor analysis, validity and reliability evaluation. The data from Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Xuzhou, Nanchang, including 12 030 adolescents, were used to define the partition values of the brief questionnaire, and evaluate the predictive validity.@*Results@#The brief questionnaire containing 25-item were developed by analyzing and choosing all items of original questionnaire, and covered seven dimensions including individual, family, school, community, policy, time and culture. The cumulative contribution rate of variance was 54.95%, the Cronbach coefficient was 0.79, and the split half coefficient was 0.70. Participants in the higher risk group had significantly higher risk of smoking ( OR =4.05, 95% CI = 2.78 -5.92), drinking ( OR =3.47, 95% CI =2.86-4.19), suicidal ideation ( OR =8.85, 95% CI =7.68-10.21), suicidal plans ( OR = 8.85, 95% CI =7.27-10.78), suicidal attempt ( OR = 8.86 , 95% CI =6.67-11.78) than individual in the lower risk group ( P < 0.05). After stratified by gender, the above positive correlations still remained significant( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#The brief questionnaire, with good reliability and predictive validity, could be widely applicated in the further researches on social ecological risk factors.

Objective@#To investigate the relationship between childhood abuse and recent negative life events with suicidal ideation and attempt, and to provide reference for prevention and control of suicidal behaviors in middle school students.@*Methods@#Stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 7 986 middle school students from Shenzhen, Nanchang and Shenyang as participants. Questionnaire survey was conducted to collect information on demographic indicators, childhood abuse, negative life events, suicidal ideation and suicide attempt, etc. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between childhood abuse experience and negative life events with suicidal ideation and suicide attempt.@*Results@#The prevalence of suicidal ideation and suicide attempt was 22.9% and 4.7%. After adjusted for confounding variables, with the increase of childhood abuse and negative life events, suicidal ideation and attempt in middle school students showed an increasing trend(P<0.05). Compared those with low level of childhood abuse and negative life events, students with high childhood abuse and high negative life events had a higher suicidal ideation and suicide attempt risk, the multiple adjusted odds ratio was 10.43 and 19.75(P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#Childhood abuse and negative life events are important risk factors affecting suicidal ideation and attempt in middle school students. Strategies to reduce childhood abuse and negative life events should be an integral component of targeted mental health interventions.

Objective@#To identify the latent classes of various health risk behaviors among medical students and further analyze the correlation between different classes and depression.@*Methods@#Using the method of convenient sampling, 2 014 medical students were selected from Anhui Medical University in October 2018. Self-designed online questionnaire were used to collect demographic data, health risk behavior (including smoking, drinking, suicide, sleep disorders, mobile phone dependence and lack of exercise) and depressive symptoms. Latent Class Analysis was used to cluster individuals. Logistic regression was provided to further analyze the association between health risk behaviors and depressive symptoms for the groups.@*Results@#The health hazard behaviors of medical students could be divided into three separate classes: substance dependence group (8.4%), mobile phone dependence group (22.4%) and low-risk group (69.2%). The distribution of health risk behaviors of medical students with different gender, major, grade, only child,father s educational level,monthly living expenses, academic achievement and number of friends were statistically significant (χ 2=99.37,19.07,12.05,6.64,14.28,19.35,20.61,26.39,P<0.05). The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for gender, major, grade, only child, father s educational level,monthly living expenses, academic achievement and number of friends, the mobile phone dependence group was positively correlated with depressive symptoms (β=1.75, P<0.01).@*Conclusion@#Different ratent classes of health risk behaviors have different correlation with depressive symptoms in groups.It is suggested that school health workers should make individualized intervention plan for different types of health hazard behavior of medical students in the future educational activities, carry out stratified intervention, alleviate the symptoms of depression and promote the mental health of medical students.

Objective@#To describe the prevalence of cell phone dependence and anxiety-depression co morbidity among college students, and to explore the association between cell phone dependence and anxiety-depression co morbidity among college students, in order to provide a reference basis for promoting the development of college students mental health.@*Methods@#Using a prospective study design, baseline survey was conducted in April-May 2019 among a random whole group sample of 1 135 individuals in two universities in Hefei, Anhui Province and Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, and a follow up survey was conducted in November 2019 among the sampled population, with a valid number of 1 110 individuals after matching with the baseline survey. The Self rating Questionnaire for Adolescent Problematic Mobile Phone Use (SQAPMPU) was used to assess college students cell phone dependence, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Self Rating Scale (DASS-21) to assess depression, anxiety, and anxiety depression co morbidity symptoms, and the self administered Health Related Behavior and Mental Health Questionnaire for College Students to report sleep duration.@*Results@#The detection rates of cell phone dependence among college students at baseline and follow up surveys were 24.5% and 27.7%, respectively, and the detection rates of anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, and anxiety depression co morbidities were 28.7%, 21.3%, and 18.4%, respectively. The results of the binary Logistic regression model showed that cell phone dependence was positively associated with the risk of anxiety depression co morbid symptoms among college students at baseline ( OR =5.79, 95% CI =4.06-8.24) and after six months of follow up ( OR =2.62, 95% CI =1.86-3.69) ( P <0.01). The results of the moderating effect analysis showed that sleep duration moderated the association between cell phone dependence and anxiety depression co morbidities, and the interaction term was statistically significant ( β =0.08, 0.04, P <0.01).@*Conclusion@#Cell phone dependence in college students increases the risk of depressive and anxiety co morbid symptoms, and sleep mitigates effect of cell phone dependence on depressive and anxiety co morbid symptoms in college students.

Objective@#To describe physical activity (PA) level of college students, and to examine the associations between PA and physical health and depression, so as to provide evidence for health promotion of college students.@*Methods@#During June to July 2018, a cross-sectional survey was conducted among 4 624 college students from 2 universities in Anhui and Jiangxi provinces. The basic information was investigated by the questionnaire. PA was assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire(IPAQ). Physical and mental health were evaluated by the 36-item Short Form Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36) and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D), respectively.Chi-square test was used to examine the differences between physical health and depression among college students with different demographic characteristics. The generalized linear model and binary logistic regression model were used to analyze the relationships between PA and physical health and depression.@*Results@#The proportion of good, medium and poor physical health were 64.5%, 31.6% and 3.9%, respectively. The detection rate of depression was 34.1%. Compared to low PA group, physical health was negatively correlated with medium PA (OR=0.78, 95%CI=0.66-0.91) and high PA(OR=0.46, 95%CI=0.38-0.56). Binary logistic regression results showed that, depression was negatively associated with medium PA (OR=0.69, 95%CI=0.59-0.82) and high PA(OR=0.66, 95%CI=0.55-0.79)(P<0.05). @*Conclusion@#There is a significant association between PA and physical health and depression. Further longitudinal studies are needed to clarify the causal relationship between PA and physical and mental health.

BACKGROUND: There are increasing reports about autophagy, but the relationship between the level of autophagy in neurons and the neuroprotection mechanism is not clear. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether rapamycin, an mammalian target of rapacmycin (mTOR) autophagy pathway inhibitor, could activate autophagy by mediating the P70s6k and mTOR protein levels to protect spinal cord neurons in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis mice. METHODS: Fifty-four healthy female C57BL/6 mice were divided into three groups: control group, model group and treatment group, with 18 mice in each group. Mice in the model group and treatment group were injected with complete Freund’s adjuvant containing MOG35-55 and pertussis diluent for establishing models of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis. At the same time, the mice in the treatment group were given rapamycin (1 mg/kg per day), and those in the model and control groups were given the same amount of normal saline. The mice in the model and treatment were sacrificed at the peak of the onset, and the non-morbid mice, including those in the control group, were sacrificed after 4 weeks of feeding. The spinal cord tissue from each animal was taken to isolate the intumescentia lumbalis of the spinal cord. Nissl staining was used for pathological observation of the spinal cord tissue. Immunofluorescence double staining was used to observe the expression and co-localization of autophagy markers LC3 and NeuN in spinal cord tissue. Western blot was used to detect mTOR, P70S6K proteins and their phosphorylation levels in spinal cord tissue. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: No mice in the control group had an attack, but those in the other groups developed experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis to different extents. Compared with the model group, the treatment group had prolonged incubation time (P < 0.01), shortened progressive stage (P < 0.01), and decreased neurologic dysfunction score (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the model group had the significantly less number of Nissl bodies (P < 0.05), while the number of Nissl bodies in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the model group, but still lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). In the model group, LC3 was scattered in the spinal cord neurons and had no obvious dot-like aggregation, whereas in the treatment group, LC3 showed obvious dot-like aggregation, and its distribution was basically consistent with that of NeuN. The phosphorylation levels of mTOR and P70S6K proteins were highest in the model group, followed by the treatment group and control group in turn. To conclude, rapamycin might through inhibiting the phosphorylation levels of mTOR and P70S6K proteins activate the activity of autophagy to protect the spinal cord neurons in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis mice.

Objective@#This study aimed to examine the mediating effects of sleep quality in the association between beverages consumption and depressive symptoms in Chinese university students, and to provide a theoretical reference for preventing and reducing depression symptoms.@*Methods@#This school-based cross-sectional survey was carried out among 4 624 university students from 2 universities in Anhui and Jiangxi provinces of China. The patient health questionnaire-9 items (PHQ-9) was used to assess depressive symptoms. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) was used to assess sleep quality, and a self-reported dietary frequency questionnaire was used to measure beverages consumption. The quantile regression model was used to association analysis, and the latent variable mediation model was used to analyze the mediation effect.@*Results@#The positive rates of mild, moderate, moderate to severe and severe depression in 4 624 university students were 31.4%, 7.5%, 4.1% and 2.0%, respectively. There was a significant association between the beverages consumption score, the PSQI score, and the PHQ-9 score( P <0.01). The higher the quantile of the beverage consumption and PSQI score, the greater the regression coefficient ( β ), and a significant dose-response relationship was observed( P <0.01). In the latent variable mediation model of beverages consumption associated with depressive symptoms in Chinese university students, the mediating effect value of sleep quality was 0.12, and the ratio of mediating effect to total effect was 71.3%.@*Conclusion@#Our study demonstrates that poor sleep quality partially mediates the association between beverages consumption and depressive symptoms in Chinese university students.

Objective@#This study aimed to investigate the correlation between brain gray matter volume(GMV) and MPD based on voxel-based morphometry(VBM) method.@*Methods@#By using principle of random sampling method, 566 students were recruited from 5 different majors in a certain university. An electronic questionnaire was used to collect the general situation and MPD. Moreover, 266 students were obtained high-resolution 3-dimensional T1 structure images by 3.0 T MRI based on voluntary principle. A multiple regression model with VBM8 was performed to detect GMV associated with MPD scores.@*Results@#Among the 266 participants, 81 students(30.5%) reported MPD. There were no statistical differences of MPD scores between different characteristics, such as gender, residential area, sibling and perceived family income, as well as academic performance(t/F=-1.04,0.40,-1.30,0.23,1.48,P>0.05). An inverse correlation was found between GMV of the anterior cingulate gyrus(ACC) and right fusiform gyrus(FFG) with MPD scores(FDR corrected, P<0.05), and no positive associations were found.@*Conclusion@#College students with higher severity of MPD have lower GMV of ACC and right FFG, and these results suggested that MPD was correlated with brain reward, executive control and emotional related GMV.

Objective@#To describe the prevalence of problematic mobile phone use and anxiety in college students, and explore the mediating effect of sleep quality on the relationship between problematic mobile phone use and anxiety, and to provide reference for physical and mental health promotion of college students.@*Methods@#One medical college and a comprephensive college were selected in Hefei city of Anhui Province and Shangrao City of Jiangxi Province, respectively, and a cross-sectional survey was conducted. A total of 1 135 valid questionnaires were collected. The self-rating questionnaires regarding basic information of college students, use the Self-rating Questionnaire for Adolescent Problematic Mobile Phone Use(SQAPMPU) and the Self-Rating Questionnaire for Depression-Anxiety-Stress for Adolescent Problematic Mobile Phone Use(DASS-21) was used to evaluate problematic mobile phone use and anxiety, respectively. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality.@*Conclusion@#The detection rates of college students with problematic mobile phone use and poor sleep quality were 24.6% and 13.3%, respectively. The detection rates of college students anxiety grouped by severity were 5.1%, 23.9%. Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed a positive linear correlation between problematic mobile phone use and anxiety[OR values(95%CI) were 1.86(1.01-3.44), 4.34(3.14-5.99), P<0.01]. The results of process showed that sleep quality played a moderating role between problematic mobile phone use and anxiety(R2=0.37, F=220.52, P<0.01). Interaction term s β=0.09(P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#The prevalence of problematic mobile phone use is high in college students, and problematic mobile phone use is positively related to anxiety. Good sleep quality can alleviate the relationship between mobile phone dependence and anxiety of college students.
