RESUMO

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to examine the expression of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)/B cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) signal pathway and glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and provide references for the early diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of OSCC.

METHODSA total of 55 cases of OSCC and 10 cases of paracan- cerous mucosa were examined in this study. Their expressions of GSK-3β, NF-κB and Bcl-2 were detected using the SP me- thod immunohistochemistry. The correlation between their expression in OSCC and the clinical and pathological peculiarity of OSCC was analyzed.

RESULTSThe positive expression of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 in OSCC were significantly higher than that in paracancerous mucosa (P < 0.01). The expression of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 had no obvious relationship with patient's age, sex, and clinical stages of the disease (P > 0.05). The expression of Bcl-2 was significantly correlated with the degree of tumor differentiation (P < 0.05), whereas the expression of GSK-3β and NF-κB in OSCC had no obvious relation- ship with the degree of tumor differentiation (P > 0.05). Strong positive correlations were observed among the expressions of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe positive expression of GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 in OSCC are sig- nificantly higher than that in paracancerous mucosa. Detecting GSK-3β, NF-κB, and Bcl-2 in OSCC may have implications in the early diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of OSCC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo further understand the clinical features of chronic sublinguitis (CS) and to guide the clinical practice by a retrospective study.

METHODS18 cases with CS were enrolled in the retrospective study and the age, gender, history of present illness, signs, diagnosis and treatment were analyzed.

RESULTSIn 18 patients with CS, 15 patients (83.33%) had palpable masses. 8 masses (53.33%) had poor-defined borders, 11 masses (73.33%) were unmovable. There were only 3 patients (16.67%) who were diagnosed correctly in all 18 cases, while 10 patients (55.56%) were diagnosed as tumor.

CONCLUSIONCS are often misdiagnosed as sublingual gland tumor and the way to confirm diagnosis is pathological examination. Auxiliary examination should be used properly with clinical manifestation to make the right diagnosis.

RESUMO

This study was aimed to assess the effects of cyclic biaxial mechanical stimulation on the invasion capacity in vitro and on the expression of MMP-9 in the salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC) high metastatic cell lines ACC-M, and in the SACC low metastatic cell lines ACC-2. We observed the functions of mechanical stimulation in the invasion of cell in vitro and investigated the mechanism involved in the invasion of SACC. Mechanical stimuli were applied to the cells for periods of 1, 3 and 6 hours daily, lasting 2 days. The mechanical stimuli applied to the cells were 4000 micro strain and 1000 micro strain, at a frequency of three hertz. Unstrained cells were used as control. The expressions of MMP-9 on ACC-M and ACC-2 were studied with laser scanning confocal microscope and image analysis software. In vitro invasion capacity of ACC-2 and ACC-M cells was determined by Transwell. The results showed the expression of MMP-9 on the cell of ACC-M was obvious by higher than that on ACC-2. MMP-9 was closely related with the invasion and metastasis of SACC. The mechanical stimulation changed the expression of MMP-9 and the invasion capacity in different duration of mechanical stimulations. Mechanical stimulation can adjust the invasion capacity and expression of MMP-9. It can promote metastasis of the cancer. Moreover, some protein other than MMP-9 may play an important role in the metastasis of the cancer.

RESUMO

砄bjective: To seek for the method of reinnervation of denervated pectoralis major myoflap. Method:The model of pectoralis major myoflap transposition in 20 New Zealand rabbits was used. After the myoflaps were transferred (original nerve innervation,ON) and ON denervation followed by hypoglossal genioglossus muscle neuromuscular pedicle implantation (NMP) wre performed. The flaps were examined at the intervals of 4,8,12 and 16 weeks respectively after operation. Results:In NMP myoflaps contracted when the hypoglosal nerve was stimulated, some type Ⅱ fibers in the myoflaps transformed into type I, but the pattern of distribution of the muscle fibers displayed mosaic and was similar to that of genioglossus muscle. Conclusion:The denervated pectoralis major myoflap can be reinnervated by hypoglossal-genioglossus muscle neuromuscular pedicle transplantation.
