RESUMO

Germany owns the largest herbal market in Europe and has the world's leading R&D capabilities for herbal medicine products. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) spreaded to Germany hundreds of years ago. Since the beginning of the 20th century, China and Germany have signed a series of agreements to support traditional medicine cooperation, and the exchange of herbs between China and Germany has become more frequent, bringing opportunities for CHM to enter into Germany. In recent years, China and Germany have gained progress in the fields of CHM research and trade, etc. However, there are differences in the understanding of herbal medicines, quality standard evaluation, usage, and medication rules between the two countries. By doing SWOT analysis of the development of CHM in Germany, this paper suggested to promote Sino-German medical exchanges and build a community of common health for mankind through strengthening the clinical application of CHM, finding new ways of CHM entering into German market, and building an international talent team of traditional Chinese medicine.

RESUMO

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency introduction of L-vitamin C in patients with melasma.Methods:From March to June 2019, 20 patients with melasma were admitted to the Department of Dermatology, the Seventh Medical Center of PLA General Hospital, including 19 females and 1 male, aged 30-60 years, with an average age of 43.5 years. All patients were treated with 22 percent of L-vitamin C once a week, a total of 8 times of treatment and followed up for 12 weeks. Each subject was assessed with standardized clinical photo, skin tests (VISIA skin image analyzer and CK multifunctional skin tester) and patient self-assessment. In addition, the adverse reactions were recorded.Results:Physician evaluation and patient self-evaluation showed that skin symptoms were improved obviously after treatment. 90% of the subjects thought that all of the skin moisture, pores, fine lines, glossiness, and color spots were improved after 12 weeks. The skin texture, ultraviolet stain and the brown spots which were detected with VISIA skin image analyzer were all improved after one week and one month. Difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). Skin glossiness was significantly improved, skin moisture content increased and melanin decreased, which were detected with CK multifunctional skin tester. The differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05). But there was no significant change in transdermal water loss and red pigment index ( P>0.05). Conclusions:22% L-vitamin C can be used to treat melasma and improve photoaging safely without affecting skin barrier function.

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of selenium-enriched Ganoderma lucidum crude extract on lipid metabolism, liver function and inflammatory response in type 2 diabetic model rats. METHODS: Totally 120 rats were randomly divided into normal control group (n=20, normal saline) and model group (n=100). Normal control group was fed with normal diet, and model group was fed with high-fat diet. 4 weeks later, model group was given intraperitoneal injection of Streptozotocin solution (30 mg/kg) to induce T2DM model. After modeling, 90 rats were randomly subdivided into model control group (normal saline), positive control group (metformin, 200 mg/kg) and selenium-enriched G. lucidum crude extract low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose groups (300, 600, 1 200 mg/kg, calculated by extract), with 18 rats in each group. They were given medicine intragastrically, once a day, from Monday to Saturday. Half of rats in each group were selected 4, 8 weeks after medication; the serum levels of glucose and insulin were detected, and islet resistance index were calculated. The serum levels of liver function indexes (AST, ALT, AKP), blood lipid indexes (FFA, TC, TG, LDL-C) and inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β) were detected by ELISA. After HE staining, the histopathological changes of liver tissue were observed by microscopy. mRNA and protein expressions of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor α (PPARα) and peroxidase acyl coenzyme A oxidase 1 (ACOX1) in liver tissue were detected by RT-qPCR and Western blot assay. RESULTS: Compared with normal control group, glucose, insulin serum levels and islet resistance index were significantly increased (P<0.01); serum liver function indexes, blood lipid indexes and inflammatory factor levels of model control group were increased significantly in model control group after 4 and 8 weeks medication (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The hepatocyte swelling of model control group was round and the volume was significantly larger than that of blank control group.  The liver had different degrees of steatosis and vacuolization, accompanied by a small amount of inflammatory cell infiltration. mRNA and protein expressions of PPARα and ACOX1 in liver tissue were decreased significantly (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with model control group, except that there was no significant decreased in islet resistunce index and AST, ALT, IL-6, IL-1β serum levels after 4 weeks of medication, and glucose, insulin, ALT serum levels after 8 weeks of medication and the levels of 4 blood lipid indexes after 4 and 8 weeks of medication in selenium-enriched G. lucidum crude extract low-dose group (P>0.05), above serum indexes of other groups were decreased significantly after 4 and 8 weeks of medication (P<0.05 or P<0.01). After 4 and 8 weeks of medication, the pathological changes of liver tissue in rats were alleviated in varying degrees. protein and mRNA expressions of PPARα and ACOX1 in liver tissue were increased significantly after 4 and 8 weeks of medication (P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Selenium-enriched G. lucidum crude extract can up-regulate protein and mRNA expressions of PPARα and ACOX1 in liver tissue, promote the excretion of accumulated fatty acid and significantly improve fatty acid metabolism, inflammatory response and liver function in T2DM model rats.

Objective:To investigate the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the adults aged 40 years old and over in Changchun urban area,and to clarify the important significance of early application of pulmonary function examination.Methods:With the help of community workers,10 communities which around Second Hospital of Jilin University were selected and the participants aged 40 years old and over were randomly collected.COPD questionnaire and pulmonary function examination were conducted in all subjects.The patients with COPD were diagnosed according to the criteria established by the Global Initiative for COPD (GOLD).The patients with COPD were divided into the diagnostic group and undiagnostic group,then the patients with COPD who had smoking history were divided into smoking cessation group and smoking group.The pulmonary function of each groups were compared.Results:A total of 1 392 participants aged 40 years old and over were recruited in this survey,including 568 males and 824 females,and their average age was (59.59±6.60) years.Totally 176 subjects were diagnosed as COPD,and the prevalence was 12.64%.Furthermore,160 of them were newly diagnosed,which showed the undiagnostic rate of COPD was 90.91 %.Among the 176 patients with COPD,16 had been confirmed before,which meant only 9.09% patients got the accurate diagnose before.The analysis of high-risk factor (smoking) showed that the population had an increased prevalence of COPD (20.71%) compared with non-smokers (8.8%) (P< 0.05).The correlational analysis between smoking index and the pulmonary function of the patients with COPD showed that all of the pulmonary function indexes except forced vital capacity (FVC%) and maximum midexpiratory flow (MMEF%) in smoking cessation group were descended along with the increase of smoking index (P<0.05).All of the pulmonary function indexes except FVC% in smoking group were descended along with the increase of smoking index (P < 0.05).Conclusion:The high prevalence and underdiagnostic rate of COPD are found in the residents aged 40 years old and over in Changchun urban area.More patients with COPD should be screened by performing pulmonary function examination to treat them at an early stage.

BACKGROUND:The physicochemical properties and bioactivity of titanium surface will degrade with time because of the aging phenomenon,affecting the efficiency of implant-bone osseointegration.Therefore,the re-activation of the implant surface physicochencical properties and bioactivity is important.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the re-activation effect of ultraviolet rays on aging titanium surface.METHODS:Sand-blasted and acid-etched titanium discs were divided into three groups randomly:Group A was new titanium surface,Group B was stored in a sealed container for 4 weeks,Group C was treated with ultraviolet rays for 15 minutes after stored in the sealed container for 4 weeks.The surface roughness,elemental composition and surface energy of the titanium surface were examined by optical profilometer,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and contact angle measuring device,respectively.The bioactivity of the titanium surface was examined by cell culture experiments.MG63 osteoblast-like cells were cultured on the different titanium surfaces.After 30 minutes,1,2,4 hours of incubation,the cells were strained with Hoechst33342 fluorescence,and initial attachment of cells was evaluated by measuring the amount of cells attached to the titanium surface.The proliferation of cells was quantified in terms of cell density at 1 and 3 culture days using tetrazolium salt (MTS)-based colorimetry.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There was no obvious difference in the surface roughness of the three groups,and ultraviolet treatment did not change the surface morphology of titanium surface.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the C element content of group A and group C was lower than that of group B (P < 0.05),and the content of Ti,O,N elements was significantly higher than that of group B (P < 0.05).No difference in the surface element composition between group A and group C was found.Both of the surface contact angles of group A and group C were Oo,but in group B,the value was 115°.The number of initially attached cells of group A and group C was significantly higher than that of group B after incubated 30 minutes,1,2 and 4 hours (P < 0.05),and no difference between group A and group C was found.The proliferation of cells of group A and group C was significantly higher than that of group B after incubated 1 and 3 days (P < 0.05),but no difference between group A and group C was found.In conclusion,ultraviolet rays show good effects on the re-activation of the aging titanium surface,which can reduce hydrocarbon contamination and recover the high surface energy to increase cell adhesion and proliferation.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of short-term sensor-augmented insulin-pump (SAP) therapy for poorly controlled patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).Methods Sixty T1DM patients with glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c)>9.0% were randomly assigned to 2 groups treated with SAP or multiple daily insulin injection ( MDI) for 6 days, then all patients converted to MDI therapy. Results Compared with MDI group and before therapy, the mean blood glucose concentration ( MBG) , SD of blood glucose, mean amplitude of glycemic excursion ( MAGE) and 24-h area under curve at 10.0 ( AUC10.0 ) levels in SAP group significantly decreased after 6-day therapy ( compared with MDI group:t=1.761,P=0.028, t=2.569,P=0.037, t=2.712,P=0.020, t=2.985,P=0.014, compared with before therapy:t=3.128,P=0.006, t=2.689,P=0.024, t=2.966,P=0.013, t=3.076,P=0.009);while there was no difference in 24-h area under curve at 3.9 (AUC3.9) between groups (P>0.05).After 1 month follow-up HbA1c levels decreased in SAP group (t=2.344,P=0.023) and were significantly lower than those in MDI group (t=1.844, P=0.035).There was no difference in daily insulin dosage, fasting C peptide (FCP) and postprandial 2h C peptide (2hCP) between two groups (P>0.05).Age (t=2.125, P=0.012) and SAP therapy (t=3.376, P=0.009) were independently correlated with the HbA1c after 1 month.Conclusion Short-term SAP therapy is effective and safe for poorly controlled T1DM patients with rapid glucose lowering and glycemic excursions reduction.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the influence of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation on physical and chemical properties of sandblasted and acid-etched (SA) titanium surface and their ability to adsorb human fibronectin (HFn).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>SA and UV-SA surfaces were separately prepared. Surface morphology, roughness, elemental composition, wettability and HFn adsorption assay were performed for comparative analysis of these two surfaces.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>SA and UV-SA surface had a similar morphology with multi-holes, and average roughness. UV-SA surface had a lower C content (22.83%) and higher O content (51.20%) and presented hydrophilicity, while SA surface showed hydrophobicity. But the quantity of adsorbed HFn on SA surface at 10 min assay point [(0.41 ± 0.07) µg] was statistically higher than that on UV-SA surface [(0.26 ± 0.08) µg](P = 0.007).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>UV irradiation would not change the morphology and roughness of SA surface. However, it could reduce the hydrocarbon and increase the hydroxyl groups, and the absorption of HFn on UV-SA surface at 10 min assay point was statistically lower than that on SA surface. Therefore, the in-vitro bioactivity of UV-SA surface was not as good as that of SA surface.</p>

RESUMO

A total of 473 patients of diabetic nephropathy (DN) with normal serum creatinine were recruited.Blood routine,blood lipids and urine albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR) were measured.They were divided into microalbuminuria group (DN1,n =246 ) and macroalbuminuria group (DN2,n =227 ).The white blood cell (WBC) count,monocyte count and CRP significantly increased with the progression of DN in the DN2 group versus those in the DNI group [ (6.8 ± 1.7 ) × 109/L vs.(6.3 ± 1.5 ) × 109/L,(0.49±0.23) ×109/Lvs.(0.32 ±0.21) ×109/L,(4.1 ±1.1)mg/Lvs.(1.7±0.3) mg/L,all P< 0.05].According to multiple linear regression analysis,WBC,monocyte,low density lipoproteincholesterol and lymphocyte were found to be independent influencing factors for the elevation of UACR.

Objective: To study the effects of Simvastatin on the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation of human periodontal ligament (PDL) cells. Methods: The fourth passage human PDLs were cultured in conditioned mineralization medium with different concentrations of Simvastatin. Proliferation ability was detected by MTT method. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was measured with 4-nitrophenyl phosphate hexahydrate (PNPP) assay. Results: Proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation of human PDLs were increased in all treatment groups with different concentrations of Simvastatin(10-9, 10-8, 10-7, 10-6 mol/L). Compared with control group, significant statistical difference was found in 10-8 mol/L, 10-7 mol/L and 10-6 mol/L groups(P<0.05). The maximum effect was observed at the concentration of 10-7 mol/L. Conclusion: Optimal concentration of Simvastatin can improve the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation of human PDLs.

Objective:To study the different gene expressions in human periodontal cells after being treated with Emdogain(EMD). Methods: The fourth passage periodontal cells were cultured. Cells in experimental group were cultured with 100 μg/ml EMD in non-serum DMEM for 3 days. Cells in control group were cultured in non-serum DMEM for 3 days. The gene expressions in human periodontal cells were screened with gene chip technique. Results: There were 112 differently expressed genes, 11 down-regulated genes and 101 up-regulated genes. Conclusion: After treated with Emdogain, expression of genes related to cell growth, cell proliferation, biosynthesis of extracellular matrix, angiogenesis and osteogenesis is up-regulated dramatically. Genes related to lipid metabolization and keratinocyte growth is down-regulated in human periodontal cells.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between TIMP-1 gene polymorphisms and susceptibility of chronic periodontitis(CP) in Han Cantonese. Methods: Buccal swabs from 70 CP patients and 74 periodontal healthy controls were collected. DNA was extracted from these buccal swabs by using Chelex-100. TIMP-1 +372T/C (rs4898)、TIMP-1+533C/T (rs1062849) polymorphisms were tested by polymerase chain reaction - restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Allele distribution and genotypes frequencies in the patients and controls were analyzed. Results: Frequency variance of allele T and C at site of TIMP-1 +372 in patients and controls showed no statistical difference. TIMP-1+533C/T polymorphism of TIMP-1 hadn't been found in the present study. Conclusion: There is no relationship between TIMP-1 +372T/C polymorphism and susceptibility of chronic periodontitis, and TIMP-1 +533C/T polymorphism doesn' t exist among Han Cantonese.
