RESUMO

Mounting evidence indicates that oral health during pregnancy is associated with pregnancy outcomes and the oral health of the offspring. Pregnant women in China have a high prevalence of oral diseases, low attendance to oral health care, and an increased burden of untreated oral infectious diseases such as periodontitis and caries. A joint perinatal oral health program between obstetrics and stomatology may improve pregnant women's and their children's oral health outcomes. This paper briefly summarizes the current status of oral health care for pregnant women and the clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology related to stomatology in China. It provides future perspectives on the potential role of obstetricians and gynecologists in promoting oral health care through developing an interdisciplinary care model.

Objective: To investigate the effect of activation of SHH signaling pathway on the apoptosis and invasion of the trophoblast cells in the preeclampsia (PE) patients, and to clarify its mechanism. Methods: The HTR8/SVneo cells were divided into normal control group, hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) treatment group and purmorphamine+H/R treatment group. The expression levels of SHH signaling pathway related proteins SHH, Ptchl, Smo, Glil, and Gli3 in the placenta tissues of PE and late trimester of normal pregnancy were detected by Western blotting method; the apoptotic rates of HTR8/SVneo cells in various groups were detected by flow cytometry (FCM); Transwell assay was used to detect the number of transmembrane cells; the expression levels of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) proteins in the HTR8/SVneo cells in various groups were detected by Western blotting method. Results: The expression levels of SHH, Ptchl, Smo, Glil and Gli3 proteins in the placenta tissue of PE were significantly lower than those in normal pregnancy placenta tissue (P<0. 05); the expression levels of SHH, Ptchl, Smo, Glil, Gli3, MMP-2, and MMP-9 proteins and the number of transmembrane cells in H/R treatment group were significantly lower than those in normal control group (P

RESUMO

China is currently in the process of establishing formal residency training programs in oral and maxillofacial surgery and other medical and dental specialties. Regulatory agencies, and educational and academic institutions in China are exploring mechanisms, goals and standards of residency training that meet the needs of the Chinese healthcare system. This article provides an introduction of residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the United States, with emphasis on the accreditation standard by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. As there are fundamental differences in the medical and dental education systems between China and United States, the training standards in the United States may not be entirely applicable in China. A competency-based training model that focus on overall competencies in medical knowledge, clinical skills and values at the time of graduation should be taken into consideration in a Chinese residency training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

This study was conducted was to detect vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGF] levels in peripheral blood of patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension [PIH] syndrome and to investigate VEGF correlation with PIH occurrence. Double-antibody enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction were used to detect VEGF levels in the peripheral blood of non-pregnant women [normal group, 30 cases], normal pregnant women [pregnancy group, 30 cases] and PIH patients [PIH group, 30 cases]. VEGF level in the pregnancy group was significantly higher than in the normal group, and the difference between these two groups was significant [P < 0.001]. In the pregnancy group, VEGF reached the maximum level at the metaphase stage of pregnancy and started to decrease at advanced pregnancy. VEGF level in the PIH group was significantly lower than in the pregnancy group at advanced pregnancy [P < 0.01], and VEGF level significantly and gradually decreased with PIH aggravation [P < 0.05]. The significant decrease of VEGF level after pregnancy was possibly an important factor of PIH pathogenesis

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the expression of metastasis-associated in colon cancer-1 (MACC-1) mediated by siRNA, and to study the effects of its downregulation on cell proliferation, cell cycle and invasion ability of cervical cancer SiHa cells.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>MACC-1 siRNA and control siRNA were transfected into cervical cancer SiHa cells, and the expression of MACC-1 protein after transfection with MACC-1 siRNA was detected by Western blotting. The changes of cell proliferation, cell cycle and invasion ability of the SiHa cells were determined by CCK-8 kit, flow cytometry and Boyden chamber assay. The expressions of cell cycle- and invasion-related proteins were analyzed by Western blotting.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Compared with the untreated group (0.317 ± 0.023) and control siRNA group (0.309 ± 0.021), the expression of MACC-1 protein was downregulated in the MACC1 siRNA group (0.041 ± 0.006) (P < 0.05), and its downregulation significantly suppressed the cell proliferation, altered the cell cycle distribution and reduced the cell invasion ability of the SiHa cells (P < 0.05). Compared with the untreated group (0.217 ± 0.025 and 0.215 ± 0.024) and the control siRNA group (0.222 ± 0.023 and 0.207 ± 0.027), the expression of cyclin D1 and Cdk2 proteins were significantly decreased in the MACC1 siRNA group (0.076 ± 0.010 and 0.039 ± 0.007) (P < 0.05). Compared with the untreated group (0.099 ± 0.007) and control siRNA group (0.105 ± 0.012), the expression of p21 protein was significantly increased in the MACC1 siRNA group (0.676 ± 0.044) (P < 0.05). The downregulation of MACC-1 expression also evoked a decrease of expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 proteins and an increase of E-cadherin protein expression (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>MACC-1 downregulation-mediated inhibition of proliferation and decreased invasion ability of tumor cells may be closely associated with the alterations of expressions of cell cycle- and invasion-related proteins.</p>

RESUMO

Objective To research the possible influence of operation and human chorionic gonadotropin(HCG) therapy on the development of antisperm antibody (AsAb) and serum levels of estradiol (E_2) and testosterone (T) of cryptorchidism boys after orchiopexy. Methods Forty cryptorchidism boys were studied who were divided into HCG treatment group and without HCG treatment group. Twenty boys who underwent inguinal operation were studied as the operation control group and 20 normal boys as the control group. The serum were collected for detection AsAb, E_2,and T. Results There were no significant difference in serum levels of E_2 and T among the three groups(P 0.05 ). Conclusions The level of AsAb is associated with the destroy of blood barrier and the disorder of immune modulation and endocrine. Treatment with HCG has no effect on AsAb level.
