RESUMO

Kaposi's sarcoma may be associated with other neoplasm, and this may indicate that Kaposi's sarcoma is related with altered immunologic surveillance. There has been only one reported case of Kaposi's sarcoma with concomitant pancreatic cancer in Korea, but Kaposi's sarcoma with concomitant colon cancer has not been reported in Korea. We report here on a case of Kaposi's sarcoma with concomitant colon cancer in an 82-year-old Korean woman who had no other evidence of immunosuppression.

RESUMO

Systemic polyarteritis nodosa is a necrotizing vasculitis that involves small and medium-sized muscular arteries in the multiple organ systems, whereas cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa (CPAN) is a localized disease characterized by necrotizing vasculitis of small and medium-sized arteries in the skin without life-threatening organ involvement. CPAN is usually limited to skin, muscle, and joints. It is chronic but takes a benign course. The most common cutaneous manifestations include nodules, ulcers and a livedo reticularis pattern on the extremities. We describe three cases with CPAN showing necrotizing vasculitis on the skin without systemic symptoms or visceral involvement. In Korea, most previously published cases with CPAN have shown a good response to a short term of corticosteroids or colchicine administration. However, two of our three patients required another immunosuppressive agent in addition to corticosteroids to manage their intractable skin lesions, and the remaining one showed a good response to a short course of prednisolone. In addition, there was one patient with CPAN having hepatitis B surface antigen, which might be associated with his refractory skin disease.

RESUMO

We describe a case of subcutaneous leiomyosarcoma on the right lower abdomen of 47-year-old female who had experienced a recurrence 4 times in spite of wide surgical removal. Considering the tumor site, we could not exclude completely our case from the possibility of the relationship to a retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: A history of poor weight gain can often be elicited in young children with chronic upper airway obstruction resulting from adenotonsillar hypertrophy. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of growth disturbance and what effect, if any tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy has on subsequent growth in a group of children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The subjects consisted of 78 patients with adenotonsillar hypertrophy who had been treated between March 1997 and September 1997 at the department of otolaryngology, Saint Benedict Hospital. Available preoperative data were collected including sex, age at surgery, tonsillar hypertrophy grade, presence of snoring and sleep apnea, preoperative weight, preoperative eating disorder, and URI frequency. RESULT: Many had improvements in growth after adenotonsil-lectomy. The improvement in growth appears to be obvious in chidren with eating disorder, snoring, and sleep apnea resulting from adenotonsillar hypertrophy. CONCLUSION: We can conclude that there exists a relationship beween adenotonsillar hypertrophy children and preoperative eating disorder, growth delay and snoring.

RESUMO

Sarcoidosis is a multisystemie disease of unknown cause eharacterized by the formation of noncaseating granulomas that may involve any organ, but the most common sites are the lungs, lyrnph nodes, skin, and eyes. We report a case of sarc ( idosis which may be caused by a foreign body reaction. A 49-year-old women was presented with violet colored, scaly papules on the back and subcutaneous nodules on the left index finger, which had been present for 6 months. A biopsy of a nodule on the left index finger revealed noncaseating epithelioid cell granuloma throughout the dermis with foreign body in the center of the granuloma. Under the polarized light microscopy, tiny particles of foreign material were more obvious. We think that foreign material may actually serve as a nidus for granuloma formation in sarcoidosis.

RESUMO

We herein presented a case of persistent variant of Grovers disease in a 83-year old male. He had a rather extensive eruption of erythematous scaly papules, which had been profusely grouped but discretely distributed over 2 years or more. The histopathologic findings of two lesions in the same patient revealed mixture of various histologic patterns, patterns resembling Dariers disease, pemphigus vulgaris, Hailey-Hailey disease and spongiosis. The ultrastructural findings of Darier pattern should be essentially similar to those of Dariers disease and also be common to those observed in the early stages of other causes of focal acantholytic dyskeratosis. The patient had been treated with topical and intralesional steroid and oral 13-cis-isotretinoin, however, the lesions had been persisted only with partial improvement of clinical appearance and reduction of pruritus.

RESUMO

We herein present a case of bullous lichen planus in a 56-year-old female. She had had a generalized eruption of lichen planus with violaceus papules and plaques. many of which had been surmounted by vesicles and bullae. The histopathologic findings of a bulla revealed hyperkeratosis, irregular acanthosis, subepidermal bulla and upper dermal band-like cell infiltration. The patient had been treated with dapsone but the lesions had not been significantly improved.

RESUMO

Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common tumor affecting the lower urinary tract of children, and is highly malignant with a tendency to involve local structure early and eventually metastasize to distant sites. Although about 15% of all juvenile rhabdomyosarcoma involve the urogenital tract most often the prostate, bladder, only a small number begin in the paratesticular tissues. Paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma usually presents as a large intrascrotal mass that compresses the testis and epididymis, sometimes reaching the external inguinal ring. None case of paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma has previously been reported in literature yet in Korea. We fist report a case of this tumor developed in a 6 years old boy and the relevant literature has been reviewed.
