RESUMO

Background: 95% of Tuberculosis [TB] of the female genital tract [FGT] is located in tissues other than the cervix. A rare case of primary TB of the cervix which was diagnosed coincidently in a patient of endometrioma was reported in this study

Case Presentation: A 34 year old nullipara, a diagnosed case of endometrioma had a small cervical growth. Pap smear and biopsy was taken and sent for histopathological examination. Her histopathological examination revealed multiple epitheloid cell granuloma and langerhans type giant cell caeseation. Ziehl neelsen staining was positive for acid fast bacilli [AFB]. The patient was started on antituberculosis under directly observed therapy along with oral contraceptive pills. Patient was on regular follow- up and clinically she was doing well

Conclusion: Although cervical tuberculosis is very rare but for an abnormal looking cervix, cervical tuberculosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis in woman of all the age groups especially in areas where tuberculosis is rampant since these cases are potentially curable with medical therapy. Many of these patients are in reproductive age group. In young women, early diagnosis prevents further damage in reproductive tract and can improve their reproductive potential

RESUMO

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma [ESCC] is one of the lethal cancers with a high incidence rate iri Asia. Many genes including cyclin Dl and pi6 play important role in its carcinogenesis. We aimed to analyze the expressions of cyclin Dl and pi6 with the various clinicopathological characteristics of ESCC. We examined 30 biopsy samples of ESCC for cyclin Dl and p!6 protein expressions using immunohistochemistry. Immunointensity was classified as no immunostaining [-], weakly immunostaining [+], weak immunostaining [H-] and strongly positive immunostaining [+++]. Out of the 30 cases, positive expression of cyclin Dl was detected in 26 cases [86.7%]. The percentage of tumors with invasion to the adventitia [88.2%], lymph node metastasis [87.5%], and tumors which were poorly differentiated [92.9%] were higher in cyclin Dl positive tumors than in the cyclin Dl negative tumors. However no significant association was found between cyclin Dl expression and the different clinicopathological parameters. There were 22 cases of ESCC [73.3%] which showed negativity for pi6. The percentage of tumors with invasion to the adventitia [82.4%] and poorly differentiated tumors [92.9%] were higher in the pi6 negative tumors than in the pi6 positive tumors. There was significant association between the histological grade and p16 expression [p=0.012]. However, there were no significant association with regard to site, size and lymph node status of the tumors and p 16 expression

RESUMO

Sixty patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) underwent bone marrow trephine biopsy at presentation. All the biopsies were decalcified, paraffin-embedded and stained with H&E, Gomori's reticulin and Masson Trichrome. A detailed study of the histology including the morphology and topographic distribution of megakaryocytes was done. 55 patients presented in chronic phase. Of these there were 37 cases (67%) of CML-granulocytic (CML-G) type and 18 cases (33%) of CML-granulocytic megakaryocytic (CML -GM) type. Five cases presented in blast crisis. 73% of CML-G had low-grade fibrosis while 83% of CML-GM had high-grade fibrosis. This was statistically significant. On follow-up 25% of CML-G went into blast crisis while all the CML-GM patients remained stable to date. Bone marrow biopsy is a useful investigation in patients of CML at diagnosis as it provides prognostic information. Evaluation of megakaryopoiesis, grading of fibrosis and localization of blasts are possible on a trephine biopsy.
