RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study was done to identify the relationship between perception of the importance and job performance of patient safety management. METHODS: This descriptive study was performed using self-report questionnaires. Participants were 200 nurses who worked at 4 tertiary university hospitals where data were collected for 4 weeks in June 2016. RESULTS: The scores for perception and performance were 4.28 and 4.37 points. A positive correlation was found between perception of the importance of patient safety management and job performance (r=.74, p < .001). In regression analysis, the perception of the importance of patient safety management (β=.74, p < .001) was a significant factor in the performance of patient safety management. The regression model was statistically significant (F=134.43, p < .001) and the explanatory power of the model was 58%. CONCLUSION: The findings from this study indicate a need to develop strategies to improve perception of the importance of patient safety management. Also, this data should be used as a basis to develop education programs to improve awareness of the importance of patient safety management.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the correlation between the severity of diabetic retinopathy, decrease of corneal sensitivity and conjunctival impression cytology. METHODS: 150 eyes of 75 patients were enrolled. The patients were divided into two groups. The study group is 110 eyes of 55 patients with diabetic retinopathy and the control group is 40 eyes of 20 patients without diabetic retinopathy. The hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) were measured for the index of diabetic control. Corneal sensitivity was measured with Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometer, and conjuctival impression cytology and fundus examination were done in two groups after topical anesthesia instillation. The classification of diabetic retinopathy was based on the ETDRS. RESULTS: In corneal sensitivity, the study group was 3.8 +/- 3.6 g/mm2, the control group 1.1 +/- 2.16 g/mm2, showing statistically significant difference (p<0.05). The severity of diabetic retinopathy had negative correlation with corneal sensitivity (R2=0.26, p<0.05). Conjunctival impression cytology had negative correlation with corneal sensitivity (R2=0.41, p<0.05), and positive correlation with retinopathy (R2=0.26, p<0.05). Corneal sensitivity was affected by the hemoglobin A1C (p<0.01), but fasting plasma glucose (p=0.7). CONCLUSIONS: Conjucntival impression cytology had negaitive correlation with corneal sensitivity and positive correlation with diabetic retinopathy. It can be thought that corneal sensitivity is affected by chronic glycemic control.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this article is to report mixed germ cell tumor, which revealed changes compatible with early transformation of dysgerminoma to endodermal sinus tumor(EST) through histogenetic considerations and immunohistochemical stains. METHODS: Ovarian germ cell tumors were reviewed from files of Dept. Ob/Gyn. Seoul Paik Hospital fiom 1992.1 to 1996.12. Total of 5 cases include 4 pure dysgerminoma and 1 mixed germ cell tumars. All tissues were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin and embedded in paraffin and reviewed by two pathologists with immunohistochemical staining for cytokeratin, vimentin, AFP, PCNA, p53 & bc1-2. RESULTS: Grossly, the areas of transformation were located at the middle of the mixed tumor. The outer layer of the tumor mass was filled with typical pure dysgerminoma. They were characterised as the presence of microcysts and small glandular structures in hematoxylin-eosin(H-E) stains with positive stain for vimentin, except the tissue of the EST. The cells in the intermediate layer were characterised as the mixed form of dysgerminomatous and EST structures in H-E stains. AFP in the dysgerminomatous cells in intermediate layer and EST were stained, but not in outer layer. CONCLUSION: Dysgerminoma may possess the ability to transform to EST. There might be intermediate stage between dysgerminoma and EST, and Immunohistochemical staining for AFP, cytokeratin, vimentin, PCNA also can be used for prognosis of germ cell tumor.
