RESUMO

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a clinical syndrome characterized by profound changes in personality and behavior. It is associated with degeneration of the prefrontal and anterior temporal cortex. There have been reports of patients with FTD who developed a new interest or increased creativity in the visual arts during their illness. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of a patient with a newfound interest in drawing after the onset of FTD in Korea.

RESUMO

Encephalitis lethargica (EL) is an acute or subacute central nervous system (CNS) infectious disorder presenting with pharyngitis followed by sleep disorder, basal ganglia signs (particularly parkinsonism), and neuropsychiatric sequelae. We report a 67-year-old man who had hypersomnolence, oculogyric crisis, akinetic mutism, parkinsonism, and malignant catatonia, which represented the stereotypic movement disorder with additional features of hyperthermia. His symptoms dramatically improved after steroid pulse therapy, indicating that EL syndrome could be a postinfectious neurological autoimmune CNS disorder.

RESUMO

The effect of intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator for patients with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) has yet to be determined. A woman with rapidly progressive cognitive decline, cerebellar dysfunction, and extrapyramidal symptoms, diagnosed as probable sporadic CJD, was complicated with pulmonary thromboembolism and systemic hypotension. Her vital signs were restored without brain parenchymal hemorrhage after intravenous thrombolysis. The presence of diffuse brain lesions in CJD did not increase the hemorrhagic complications associated with intravenous thrombolysis, which differs from an ischemic vascular event.

RESUMO

10~25% of all cases of lymphoma involves the nervous system. Neurolymphomatosis, one of the complications of lymphoma, is rare clinical disorder with signs of peripheral neuropathy. It is also a rare cause of painful neuropathy and usually presents with sensorimotor polyneuropathy in nerve conduction studies. We report a case of neurolymphomatosis that had originated from a nasal type NK/T cell lymphoma with clinical and electrophysiological evidences of peripheral neuropathy, confirmed by histopathologic evidences of lymphomatous infiltration.
