RESUMO

Objective To investigate the effects of monosodium tetrahexose ganglioside sodium (GM-1) combined with edaravone in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction (ACI) in patients with serum homocysteine (Hcy), high sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP). Methods 66 patients with ACI were randomly divided into observation group and control group, 33 cases were treated with conventional neurology. The control group was treated with edaravone. The observation group was treated with edaravone and GM-1. (NIHSS) score, serum hs-CRP and Hcy levels were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 90.91%, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). After 21 days of treatment, the NIHSS score, serum Hcy and hs-CRP in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05 ). Conclusion GM-1 combined with edaravone is effective in the treatment of ACI, which can promote the rehabilitation of neurological function and living activity. Its mechanism may be related to its anti-inflammatory response, reduced Hcy level and protection of brain cell injury.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of cordyceps acid and cordycepin on the inflammatory phenotype and fibrogenic property of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs).

METHODSAn immortalized mouse HSC line (JS1) was stimulated with lippolysaccharide (LPS; 100 ng/ml) to induce an inflammatory response with or without co-administration of cordyceps acid or cordycepin in various concentrations (10, 50, or 200 mumol/L). Effects of the treatments on the chemokine monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) mRNA expression in the cells and the protein secretion in the cell culture supernatants were determined by reverse transcription and real-time quantitative PCR (RT-PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. In addition, JS1 cells were treated with transforming growth factor-b1 (TGFb1; 10 ng/ml) to induce a fibrogenic response with or without co-administration of cordyceps acid or cordycepin in various concentrations (10, 50, or 200 mumol/L). Effects on the expression of fibrogenic proteins including collagen type I and a-smooth muscle actin (a-SMA), were investigated by Western blot.

RESULTSHigh-concentration (200 mumol/L) treatments of both cordyceps acid and cordycepin significantly inhibited the LPS-induced up-regulation of MCP-1 transcription and secretion (mRNA: 2.07 +/- 0.29 vs. 3.35 +/- 0.26, t = 15.90 and 1.15 +/- 0.23 vs. 4.17 +/- 0.61, t = 8.93; protein: 1.88 +/- 0.06 vs. 2.33 +/- 0.06, t = 10.39 and 1.47 +/- 0.25 vs. 1.97 +/- 0.04, t = 4.60; all P less than 0.05). All concentrations of cordyceps acid and cordycepin inhibited the TGFb1-induced up-regulation of collagen type I and a-SMA protein expression. However, the effects were more robust with the 200 mumol/L concentrations (P less than 0.05).

CONCLUSIONCordyceps acid and cordycepin ameliorate the LPS-induced inflammatory phenotype and TGFb1-induced fibrogenic response of cultured HSCs. These effects may contribute significantly to the drugs' therapeutic mechanisms to inhibit and resolve liver fibrosis.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the clinical features and characteristics of imaging, cerebral hemodynamics and electrophysiology of septic encephalopathy in children. Methods The clinical data and examination result of computerized tomography(CT),ultrasound and electroencephalogram(EEG) on encephalon of the 44 consecutive children with septic encephalopathy from Jan.2003 to Jun.2006 were reviewed retrospectively.According to the prognosis and the etiology, the totally 44 patients were divided into survival group, death group and pneumonia group, enteritis group, septicemia group, appendicular perforation group, skin gangrene group as well as EBV infection group,respectively.Fi-sher′s exact test was used to compare the differences of ratio. Results 1.Clinical manifestations:loss of consciousness was observed in all 44 cases, convulsions in 29 cases,upper-right-limb paralysis in 1 case, cerebral hernia in 1 case, and 14 cases resulted in death.2.Forteen cases were detected by CT scanning.Multiple local and diffuse lower density in cerebral parenchyma was observed in 3 cases and 2 cases respectively.Intracranial hemorrhage was found in the latter 2 cases.3.Color doppler ultrasound was detected in 11 cases.Diffuse brain edema was found in 5 cases, and among them intracranial hemorrhage was found in 1 case.4.EEG was detected in 10 cases.Flat-to-isoelectric EEG was found in 3 cases.Diffuse slow wave activities and sharp wave with sharp-slow wave complex were found in 5 cases and 2 cases,respectively.5.Between the sharp wave group and the flat-to-isoelectric EEG group, the number of cases who was less than 7 with Glasgow coma scale was significant(P
