RESUMO

Objective To evaluate the effect of modified bowel preparation-Polyethylene Glycol Electrolytes Powder (SF-PEG, Shu Taiqing) in combination with magnesium sulfate in patients with constipation undergoing colonoscopy. Methods Sixty cases from mild to moderate constipation were randomly divided into two groups:Group A: SF-PEG (438.4 g, 4 L), 30 cases; Group B: received low-dose SF-PEG (219.2 g, 2 L) and 50.00%magnesium sulfate 50 ml, and then 250 ml water, 30 cases. Boston Bowel Preparation Scale scores (BBPS) and bubbles in bowel lumen score were assessed by the same endoscopist blindly to the preparation regimen, and the time of colonoscopy and the tolerability was recorded. Results All patients underwent completely the bowel preparation and colonoscopy. The time of colonoscopy of group B was shorter than that of group A (P 0.05). Conclusion SF-PEG in combination with magnesium sulfate in patients with constipation for colonoscopy can improve tolerance to bowel preparation, cleanliness and effects of examination. It's safe to be recommended in clinical practice.

RESUMO

Objective To determine the relationship of the expression of aquaporin 5 (AQP5)with clinicopathology and prognosis of colorectal cancer. Methods We collected data from 45 patients with primary colorectal cancer without any adjuvant therapy before operation. The expression of AQP5 was measured by immunohistochemistry (IHC).Then we analyzed the correlation between AQP5 expression and clinicopathological parameters (including age, tumor size, clinical staging, tumor location, lymph node and pathological type)and the connection between AQP5 expression and prognosis based on follow-up data. Results Of the 45 tumor specimens,14 (31.1%)had a high level of AQP5 expression,29 (64.4%)exhibited a moderate level of staining, and 2 (4.4%)had an absence of AQP5 staining.AQP5 was only occasionally detected in para-neoplastic [3/45 (6.67%)]and normal tissues [3/45 (6.67%)].The overexpression of AQP5 was also positively associated with TNM stage (P =0.002),lymph node metastasis (P =0.01 6),and distant metastasis (P =0.000).However,it had no significant association with age, gender, histologic grade or tumor size (P > 0.05 ).Conclusion AQP5 may be used as a novel biomarker for predicting the prognosis of colorectal cancer.

RESUMO

Objective To assess atrophy of the multifidus in elderly patients with low back pain using magnetic resonance imaging. Methods Thirty patients with low back pain were recruited, and 15 healthy subjects formed a normal group. The cross sectional area (CSA) and signal strength of the multifidus muscles at the L4-5 and L5-S1 levels were measured along with the signal strength of the hip fat for all of the subjects in both groups using a superconducting magnetic scanner. Results There was no statistically significant CSA difference between the groups at either level. The contrast between multifidus muscle and adipose tissue was significantly different between the groups at both levels. Conclusion In evaluating atrophy of the multifidus muscle in elderly patients with low back pain, the contrast between multifidus muscle and adipose tissue at either level L4-5 or L5-S1 can be used for assessment. It is more reliable, specific and sensitive than the CSA of the muscle.
