RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is increasingly used for superficial skin cancers. However, there have only been a few reports on Bowen's disease treated with PDT in the Korean literature. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and side effects of PDT in the treatment of Bowen's disease. METHODS: We treated 20 Bowen's disease lesions in 15 patients using topical PDT containing 5-aminolaevulinic acid and a light-emitting diode device. The light intensity used was 100 mW/cm(2) and the dosage was 140~220 J/cm(2). RESULTS: Complete clearance was achieved in 17 of 20 lesions (85%) after 2~4 treatment sessions. The only side effect was a stinging sensation, which occurred in 5 lesions (20%). CONCLUSION: PDT is a relatively effective and useful alternative therapy for treatment of Bowen's disease.

RESUMO

Intramuscular lipoma is an unusual benign mesenchymal tumor, which infiltrates the skeletal muscle, and in exceedingly rare cases can occur on the head or neck. Intramuscular lipoma is composed of mature adipose tissue that infiltrates muscle in a diffuse manner, and the entrapped muscle fibers exhibit varying degrees of atrophic change. Because of infiltrating features of adipocyte, the recurrence rate after excision is very high. We herein report two cases of intramuscular lipoma of the chin.

RESUMO

Primary mucinous carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor that arises from the deepest portion of the eccrine duct. This tumor consists of large mucinous pool with fibrous septae and clusters of tumor cells. Immunohistochemical staining was studied for the differentiation, but has only limited value. We present a case of mucinous eccrine carcinoma in 56-year-old man and review the literature.

RESUMO

Both vitiligo and psoriasis are common skin disorders, which rarely coexist. We report a case of psoriasis which developed on a vitiligo lesion in a 58-year-old woman. We also discuss the possible mechanism of co-localization of vitiligo and psoriasis, including the role of autoimmunity, Koebner phenomenon, and common neuropeptides.

RESUMO

Extramammary Paget's disease is a neoplastic disease, which usually manifests as an erythematous plaque on the genital area. Pigmented extramammary Paget's disease is a rare variant. It should be differentiated from malignant melanoma. We report a case of pigmented extramammary Paget's disease in a 62-year-old male who had a brown-to-black or erythematous-colored plaque on the scrotum and inguinal area. Histopathologic findings showed features typical to extramammary Paget's disease, with proliferation of epidermal melanocytes and dermal melanin pigments.
