RESUMO

We prepared 15 batches of Kaixin Powder benchmark samples with the decoction pieces of different batches. Further, we established the specific chromatograms and index component content determination method of Kaixin Powder benchmark samples and analyzed the peaks and similarity of the chromatograms. With sibiricose A5, sibiricose A6, polygalaxanthone Ⅲ, 3,6'-disinapoyl sucrose, ginsenoside Rb_1, β-asarone, α-asarone, and dehydropachymic acid as index components, the index component content determination method was established and 70%-130% of the mean content of each component was set as the range. The chromatograms of 15 batches of Kaixin Powder benchmark samples had a total of 22 characteristic peaks, among which 8 peaks were identified, which represented sibiricose A5, sibiricose A6, polygalaxanthone Ⅲ, 3,6'-disinapoyl sucrose, ginsenoside Rb_1, β-asarone, α-asarone, and dehydropachymic acid, respectively. The chromatograms shared the similarity of 0.992-0.999. The 15 batches of benchmark samples had sibiricose A5 of 0.34-0.55 mg·g~(-1), sibiricose A6 of 0.43-0.57 mg·g~(-1), polygalaxanthone Ⅲ of 0.12-0.19 mg·g~(-1), 3,6'-disinapoyl sucrose of 1.08-1.78 mg·g~(-1), ginsenoside Rb_1 of 0.33-0.62 mg·g~(-1), β-asarone of 2.34-3.72 mg·g~(-1), α-asarone of 0.11-0.22 mg·g~(-1), and dehydropachymic acid of 0.053-0.079 mg·g~(-1). This study established the specific chromatograms and index component content determination method of Kaixin Powder benchmark samples, and the method was simple, feasible, reproducible, and stable. This study provides a scientific basis for further research on the key chemical properties of the benchmark samples and preparations of Kaixin Powder.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is currently the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease in the aging population. It is characterized by massive deposition of extracellular β-amyloid peptide and formation of intracellular neurofibrillary tangles. Cancer is also an age-related disease. Some epidemiological studies have shown an inverse relationship between AD and the onset of various types of cancers, that is, the risk of cancer in patients with AD is reduced, and vice versa. Epigenetic mechanisms play important roles in the development of AD and cancer. In this article, we will review the recent research advances on the epigenetic mechanisms of AD and cancer onset, and provide new ideas for rethinking the relevance of AD and cancer with a "holistic concept".

Callicarpa nudiflora,which is a big brand of Li nationality medicine with Hainan characteristics,has the effects of dissolving stasis,hemostasis,anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. At present,there is a lack of information about the reference genome of C. nudiflora. The study of the genome size,heterozygosity rate and characteristics of SSR of C. nudiflora,can provide an effective basis for the formulation of the whole genome de novo sequencing strategy and development of SSR molecular markers of C. nudiflora. To realize this purpose,high throughput sequencing platform Illumina Hiseq was used to sequence the genome structure of C. nudiflora and K-mer analysis was applied to estimate genome size,repeat sequences and heterozygosity rate. Simple-sequence repeat( SSR) loci that are suitable as markers were identified by MISA software. The results showed the estimated genome size of C. nudiflora was 822. 43 Mb,with a 0. 85% heterozygosity rate and 71. 67% repeats,and the GC content of genome was about 49. 20%. Therefore,C. nudiflora belongs to a complex genome with high heterozygosity and repetition. SSR molecular genetic markers were analyzed in the genome sequence,and a total of 206 049 SSRs were identified,among which mono-nucleotide,di-nucleotide and tri-nucleotide repetitive motifs summed up to 198 993,accounting for 96. 57% of the total SSRs. Among the 2-6 nucleotide repeats,AT/AT,AAT/ATT,AGCC/CTGG,AAAAT/ATTTT and AGATAT/ATATCT have the largest number,respectively. This report represents the first genome-wide characterization of C. nudiflora,and provides a reference for the construction of the library for the fine sequencing of the genome,and a molecular basis for the development of SSR molecular markers as well as for the protection and utilization of gene resources.

Objective@#To evaluate the diagnostic efficiency in differential diagnosis for breast sentinel lymph nodes, and to analyze the imaging characteristics of involved breast sentinel lymph node in lymphatic contrast enhanced ultrasound.@*Methods@#Sixty-one patients suspected with breast cancer from May 2017 to March 2019 in Shanghai General Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University were included in the study. Ultrasound contrast agent was injected subcutaneously, and axillary lymph nodes were displayed under contrast enhanced ultrasound mode. The longitudinal diameter (anteroposterior diameter), transverse diameter, longitudinal/transverse ratio and the distance from skin surface were measured. Five types were concluded according to the imaging characteristics in lymphatic contrast enhanced ultrasound: typeⅠ, uniform enhancement; type Ⅱ, ring-shape enhancement; type Ⅲ, ununiform enhancement; type Ⅳ, regional filling defect; type Ⅴ, total filling defect. Sentinel lymph nodes were guided by wire guides and verified in pathology after excision in the operation.@*Results@#The detection rate of sentinel lymph nodes was 95.08% (58/61). Seventy-seven lymph nodes, including 21 involved nodes and 56 uninvolved nodes were detected by lymphatic contrast enhanced ultrasound in 58 patients. The longitudinal diameters and transverse diameters of involved lymph nodes were larger than those of uninvolved ones (P=0.001, 0.003). When type Ⅳ(regional filling defect) and type Ⅴ(total filling defect) were classified as involved, the sensitivity, specificity, positive-predictive value, negative-predictive value, accuracy and the area under ROC curve of predicting sentinel lymph node metastases were 85.71%, 96.43%, 90.00%, 94.70%, 93.51% and 0.911, respectively.@*Conclusions@#Lymphatic contrast enhanced ultrasound reaches a high diagnostic efficiency in qualitative analysis of breast sentinel lymph nodes. Regional filling defect and total filling defect are the imaging characteristics of involved sentinel lymph nodes in lymphatic contrast enhanced ultrasound.

Objective@#To evaluate the efficacy and safety of nifekalan (NIF) on cardioversion in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients post radiofrequency ablation, and investigate the relevant factors related to the cardioversion efficacy of NIF.@*Methods@#We screened patients with sustained AF rhythm after radiofrequency ablation between November 2016 and July 2018. Participants were treated with intravenous NIF 0.4 mg/kg within 5-10 minutes after ablation. We observed the adverse reaction, and monitored the rhythm, heart rate, QT interval and QTc interval before the medication and at 5, 10, 20, 120 min after the medication. According to the drug outcome of NIF, patients were divided into conversion group and non-conversion group, related factors affecting conversion efficacy were evaluated using logistic regression analysis.@*Results@#(1)A total of 116 patients were enrolled in the study (63 males and 53 females, mean age was (64±18) years). Among them, 72 patients were converted to sinus rhythm, and the overall successful rate was 62.1%. There were 84 patients with persistent AF, of which 50 cases (59.2%) were restored to sinus rhythm. There were 32 patients with paroxysmal AF, 22 cases (68.8%) of them were restored to sinus rhythm. The conversion time was 1.5 to 12 (6.8±3.4)min. (2) In 116 patients, the QT interval and QTc interval were significantly longer after medication than before the drug administration (P<0.01), and peaked at about 10th min, and restored to the level before drug administration at about 120th min. (3) There were 8 cases of bradycardia (6.9%), 3 cases of frequent and short ventricular tachycardia (2.6%). (4) The duration of atrial fibrillation was shorter and left atrial diameter was smaller in the cardioversion group than in the non-cardioversion group (both P<0.05). There were no significant differences in gender, disease history, atrial fibrillation type and structural heart disease between the two groups (P>0.05). (5) Multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that the duration of atrial fibrillation (OR=0.980, 95%CI 0.966-0.994, P=0.004) and the left atrial diameter (OR=0.888, 95%CI 0.814-0.967, P=0.007) were the factors that influence the cardioversion efficacy of NIF on atrial fibrillation post ablation.@*Conclusions@#The total effective rate of NIF was 62.1% in patients witrh sustained AF post radiofrequency ablation, was 68.8% in patients with paroxysmal AF. Besides, NIF has the advantage of short conversion time and few adverse reactions. Left atrium diameter and AF duration were relevant factors that influence the efficacy of NIF of cardioversion in patients with sustained AF after radiofrequency ablation.

Objective: To investigate the echo characteristics and the diagnostic efficacy of ≤ 4 cm solid renal cortical tumors with computer software. Methods: The gray-scale ultrasonic images of 205 solid renal cortical tumors (167 malignant tumors and 38 benign tumors) in 202 patients were retrospectively analyzed. The echogenicity of the tumors were quantitatively analyzed with computer software, and relative unit grayscale values were measured. The graysacle value of the tumor was compared with that of the renal cortex and sinus. The echogenicity of tumors were further semi-quantitatively classified as obvious hyperechoic, slightly hyperechoic or hypoechoic. Results: The relative unit grayscale value and the echo distribution had significantly different between benign and malignant tumors (both P<0.05). Slightly hyper echogenicity was the major appearance of malignant renal tumors (147/167, 88.02%),while some malignant tumors showed hypoechoic (18/167, 10.78%). The majority of benign renal tumors were obvious hyperechoic (24/38, 63.16%) and some of them represented as slightly hyperechoic (12/38, 31.58%). There were statistically significant differences of echo distributions between benign and malignant tumors. Taken slightly hyperechoic or hypoechoic as standards for differentiating magligant from benign tumors, the sensitivity was 98.80%, but the specificity was 63.16%. Taken the relative unit gray value <1.51 as standard for differentiating magligant and benign ones, the sensitivity was 75.45%, while the specificity was 73.68%. Conclusion: The degree of tumor echo can be accurately quantified with computer software. Most ≤ 4 cm solid renal cell carcinomas show slightly high echogenicity.

Objective To explore the relationship between mental health status and intentional self harm and parenting style among adolescent students.Methods Using Parenting Style Questionnaire (PBI),Chinese middle school student mental health scale questionnaire and deliberate self harm questionnaire,6 middle schools in Quzhou City were randomly selected and a total of 876 students were investigated.Results A total of 869 questionnaires were recovered and the recovery rate was 99.20%.Totally 42.58% of the adolescents had psychological problems,and 8.40% and 7.36% of the students feel bad themselves.Those who had thought or deliberately hurt themselves accounted for 15.54% and 5.64%,respectively.The parenting style of father was mainly high care and low control(50.50%),while that of mother was mainly high control and low care(74.00%).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the mental health status was self reported poor among those their father parenting style was high control and low care (OR =3.291,95% CI:1.724-6.285) and the possibility of intentional self harm behaviors were higher (OR =2.278,95% CI:1.042-4.983) when the confounding factors were controlled.Conclusion The proportion of middle school students who have psychological problems were high and high control and low care of father parenting style were the risk factors of psychological problems and intentional self harm behaviors among adolescents.

AIM:To investigate the effects of xeroderma pigmentosum group D ( XPD) gene on the prolifera-tion of human umbilical arterial smooth muscle cells ( HUASMCs) induced by oxidized low-density lipoprotein ( Ox-LDL) . METHODS:The recombinant plasmid pEGFP-N2/XPD was transfected into HUASMCs by liposome .The cells were di-vided into blank control group , pEGFP-N2 group, pEGFP-N2/XPD group, Ox-LDL group, Ox-LDL+pEGFP-N2 group and Ox-LDL+pEGFP-N2/XPD group.The proliferation rate of the cells was detected by MTT and EdU assays .The apop-totic rate and cell cycle distribution were analyzed by flow cytometry .The protein levels of XPD, caspase-3, Bcl-2 and Bax were determined by Western blot .RESULTS:Compared with blank control group , the expression of XPD was increased in pEGFP-N2/XPD group (P<0.05).According to the results of MTT and EdU assays , the cell proliferation in pEGFP-N2/XPD group was reduced compared with blank control group (P<0.05).Compared with Ox-LDL group, the cell prolifera-tion in Ox-LDL+pEGFP-N2/XPD group was significantly inhibited (P<0.05).According to the results of flow cytome-try, the cell proportion of S phase decreased and the G 0/G1-phase cell proportion increased significantly in pEGFP-N2/XPD group and Ox-LDL+pEGFP-N2/XPD group compared with blank control group and Ox-LDL group, repectively (P<0.05).Compared with blank control group and Ox-LDL group, the protein level of Bcl-2 decreased and the protein levels of Bax and cleaved caspase-3 increased in pEGFP-N2/XPD group and Ox-LDL +pEGFP-N2/XPD group, respectively (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:XPD inhibits the proliferation of HUASMCs and promotes their apoptosis , and reduces the promoting effect of Ox-LDL on the proliferation of HUVSMCs .XPD may be the target for treatment of atherosclerosis .

Objective @# To evaluate the tensile bonding strength (TBS) and antibacterial properties when an orthodontic adhesive was added with nanohydroxyapatite (nHAp). @*Methods@#Light cure orthodontic adhesive (Grengloo) was blended with 2% TiO2 containing nHAp nanoparticles by 0%、10%、20%、30% (w/w), while the control was not blended with nHAp. Brackets were bonded to extracted premolars by these new adhesives. TBS of 5groups were determined, and the adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores were assessed. Composite discs specimen were prepared, incubated with bacterial suspension for 48 h, and tested for antibacterial properties. @*Results @#No significant difference was found in ARI. The colony unit counts and lactate productionof the groups containing 2%TiO2 were significantly reduced. The colony unit counts and lactate production were without relationship with nHAp. The tensile bonding strength drastically decreased when containing more than 10% nHAp. @* Conclusin@#nHAp might not enhance the antibacterial effects of Grengloo.

To explore the differences in lipid metabolites in serum of hyperuricemic rats induced by fructose and normal rats by using lipid metabolomics technology, and screen the potential biomarkers related to hyperuricemia. The metabolic fingerprint spectrum of the serum in hyperuricemic rats(model group) and normal rats(control group) was obtained and analyzed by using ultra performance convergence chromatography-tandem-Q-time of flight mass spectrometry(UPC ² -Q/TOF-MS) method and the differences of metabolic spectra between two groups were compared via the multivariate statistical methods to screen differential metabolites. The results indicated that there was significant difference in metabolic spectra between model group and control group, and 11 differential metabolites were screened. Then eight potential biomarkers such as arachidonic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid were tentatively identified by using the exact mass number and secondary mass spectrometry(MS/MS spectrum). Therefore, a new research method for lipid metabolomics in serum of hyperuricemic rats induced by fructose was established successfully based on UPC ² -Q/TOF-MS. What's more, it was speculated that the abnormal metabolism of fatty acid might be associated with the pathogenesis of hyperuricemia, which would provide scientific basis for early detection and prevention of hyperuricemia.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To understand the characteristics of infections from blood donors with HBsAg⁻/HBV DNA⁺ in Xiamen area.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Donors in Xiamen area were assayed by routine ELISA and those with negative results were tested by nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT). HBsAg⁻/HBV DNA⁺ samples were tested by quantitative detection of HBV DNA. Epidemiological analysis and following up examination were conducted in HBsAg⁻/HBV DNA⁺ donors.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Out of 130659 samples 113 were tested as HBsAg⁻/HBV DNA⁺ and with a rate of 0.09%. Among those, 62 samples were tested by quantitative detection of HBV DNA. All of the quantitative results were less than 1 × 10³ IU/ml and 93.5% (58/62) of which were less than 100 IU/ml. The possitive rate of HBsAg⁻/HBV DNA⁺ donors rose with ages. The possitive rate in male donors was higher than that in female and was lower in highly educated ones. Students and public servants had a lower positive rate.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The possitive rate of HBsAg⁻/HBV DNA⁺ donors is higher in Xiamen and the distribution of possitive donors has certain epidemiological characteristics. It is necessary to mobilize and recruit more people with a lower rate of HBsAg⁻/HBV DNA⁺ infection.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To discuss the biological function and regulation mechanism of curcumin in promoting human colorectal carcinoma (LoVo) cells apoptosis.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>Conventional in vitro culture in human colorectal carcinoma cells LoVo, When 80%-90% confluence was reached, cells were treated with curcumin at different concentrations (0-20 mg x L(-1)). Curcumin's effect on cell proliferation level was examined by MTT colorimetry. The ultrastructure of curcumin-treated LoVo cells were observed with transmission electron microscope (TEM). The amount of PI-positive LoVo cells after the curcumin treatment were determined by flow cytometry. The cell apoptosis rate was detected by Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining. The mRNA level of Bax, Bcl-2, Caspase-3 and Bcl-xL were tested by means of RT-PCR.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>MTT test indicates curcumin could inhibite the growth and proliferation of LoVo cells in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. TEM examination showed that curcumin can make LoVo cell morphological changes, showing the typical characteristics of apoptotic cells. Flow cytometry instrument analysis showed that curcumin can arrest cell cycle at S phase, and induce apoptosis of LoVo cells. RT-PCR test showed that curcumin can activate the expression of Bax and Caspase-3, inhibit the expression of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL at the mRNA level.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Curcumin can significantly inhibit the proliferation and induce the apoptosis of human colorectal carcinoma cells LoVo. Such biological effect may be associated with activating Caspase-3 signal channel by activating Bax expression and inhibiting Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL expression. This study lays an important foundation for further discussing the mechanism of curcumin in inducing human colorectal carcinoma LoVo apoptosis.</p>

Bone marrow (BM) and umbilical cord (UC) are the major sources of mesenchymal stem cells for therapeutics. This study was aimed to compare the basic biologic characteristics of bone marrow-derived and umbilical cord derived-mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC and UC-MSC) and their immunosuppressive capability in vitro. The BM-MSC and UC-MSC were cultured and amplified under same culture condition. The growth kinetics, phenotypic characteristics and immunosuppressive effects of UC-MSC were compared with those of BM-MSC.Gene chip was used to compare the genes differentially expressed between UC-MSC and BM-MSC. The results showed that UC-MSC shared most of the characteristics of BM-MSC, including morphology and immunophenotype. UC-MSC could be ready expanded for 30 passages without visible changes. However, BM-MSC grew slowly, and the mean doubling time increased notably after passage 6. Both UC-MSC and BM-MSC could inhibit phytohemagglutinin-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cell proliferation, in which BM-MSC mediated more inhibitory effect. Compared with UC-MSC, BM-MSC expressed more genes associated with immune response. Meanwhile, the categories of up-regulated genes in UC-MSC were concentrated in organ development and growth. It is concluded that the higher proliferation capacity, low human leukocyte antigen-ABC expression and immunosuppression make UC-MSC an excellent alternative to BM-MSC for cell therapy. The differences between BM-MSC and UC-MSC gene expressions can be explained by their ontogeny and different microenvironment in origin tissue. These differences can affect their efficacy in different therapeutic applications.

RESUMO

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effect of up-regulated expression of tumor suppressor gene p14(ARF) on apoptosis of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells and its interaction with imatinib.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Tumor suppressor gene p14(ARF) was transduced into K562 (K562-p14(ARF)) and 4 blast crisis primary CML cells (CML-BC 1-4) using vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein (VSV-G) pseudotyped lentiviral vector with cells transduced by empty vector as control. Fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry were applied to measure transduction efficiency, and Western blotting assay was used to detect p14(ARF) protein of K562 cells. WST-8 method was used to determine cell growth inhibition rate of K562 cells transduced by the target gene under different concentrations of imatinib (0, 0.015, 0.062, 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 μmol/L). Cell apoptosis and leukemic cellular colony-forming ability were detected by Annexin V-FITC/PI dyeing using flow cytometry (FCM) and semi-solid culture method respectively.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Fluorescence microscopy and FCM showed that transduction efficiency (GFP positive cells) of K562-p14(ARF), K562-VSV and CML-BC1 cells were close to 100%, and CML-BC 2-4 cells were 80% to 90% on average. Results of Western blotting showed that the levels of ARF protein expression of K562 cells transduced by p14(ARF) were significantly higher than of untransduced cells; the apoptosis rate of K562-p14(ARF) was 20%; the mean apoptosis rate of 4 primary leukemic cells transduced by the p14(ARF) [(71.1±22.4)%] was significantly higher than of control group [(12.4±6.2)%] (P<0.05). Imatinib significantly inhibited the proliferation of K562-p14(ARF) cells in a dose-dependent manner. The mean leukemic cellular colony-forming unit of 4 primary leukemic cells transduced by the p14(ARF) (41.5±13.2) was significantly lower than of the control group (88.5±7.9) (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Increased p14(ARF) gene expression could induce apoptosis of CML cells; Moreover, it could enhance inhibitory effect on cell proliferation when combined with imatinib.</p>

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Food composition and style is changing dramatically now, which causes inappropriate secretion of hormones from brain, gastrointestinal and endo-pancreas, may be related to unbalance of glucose in blood. The aim of this study was to explore the fast response of C-peptide, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), ghrelin and endomorphin-1 (EM-1) to the eastern and western style meals in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The study enrolled 57 patients with type 2 diabetes (20 men and 37 women, mean age (67.05 ± 8.26) years). Eastern style meal (meal A) and western style meal (meal B) were designed to produce the fullness effect. C-peptide, GLP-1, ghrelin and EM-1 were assessed before (0 hour) and after (2 hours) each diet.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The delta (2h - 0h) of C- peptide in meal A was significantly lower than that in meal B (P = 0.0004). C-peptide, GLP-1, ghrelin and EM-1 were obviously higher before meal B than those before meal A (P < 0.0001, < 0.0001, = 0.001, = 0.0004 respectively). Blood glucose 2 hours and 3 hours after meal B were higher than those after meal A (P = 0.0005, 0.0079 respectively). Correlations between GLP-1 and ghrelin were strongly positive before both meals and 2 hours after both meals and also in relation to the delta of meal A and meal B (r(A0h) = 0.7836, r(B0h) = 0.9368, r(A2h) = 0.7615, r(B2h) = 0.9409, r(A(2h-0h)) = 0.7531, r((2h-0h))B = 0.9980, respectively, P < 0.0001).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Western style meal (high fat and protein food) could make more response of C-peptide than eastern style meal, and could stimulate more gut hormones (GLP-1, ghrelin) and brain peptide (EM-1) at the first phase of digestion.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate occupational health status of female workers in pharmaceutical industries and to propose the protective measures for the occupational health.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>A total of 2816 female workers from 19 pharmaceutical industries in Shandong and Gansu provinces were investigated by a questionnaire.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>73.1% of female workers exposed to occupational hazards, mainly to toxic chemicals. 63.2% of them suffered from dysmenorrhea; 38.5% of them have reproductive system diseases, i.e. mammary gland hyperplasia (44.1%), cervical erosion (26.5%), uterine annex inflammation (24.2%); 17.1% of them suffered from accidental work injuries; 34.7% of them complained about low back pain, and 29.7% of them perceived hearing loss. 94.9% of female workers hoped to get the occupational health and labor protection knowledge and skills.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Strengthening the supervision of labor protection for female workers, including technical measures occupational hazards control and health-related knowledge, and improving the occupational health status of female workers should be conducted.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To understand the reproductive health status of female workers in pharmaceutical industry of Gansu Province, to explore influencing factors, and to propose some reference basis of intervening measures.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The cluster sampling method was used to study 1801 female workers from 16 pharmaceutical industries in 6 cities (Pingliang, Qingyang, Lanzhou, Dingxi, Zhangye and Jiuquan cities) of Gansu Province. The investigation was performed by interviewing and adopting questionnaires.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>There were the problems of labor and organization, which included the overtime work, continuous work, standing for long periods, rapid monotonous action assignments, the loading work and a variety of harmful factors in the working environment of the pharmaceutical industry in Gansu Province. There were many problems in the reproductive health status of female workers. The morbidities of abnormal menstruation and breast diseases in female workers were 43.25% and 20.43%. The order of high morbidities was hyperplasia of mammary glands (91.30%), breast adenofibroma (5.43%) and mastitis (2.99%). The order of morbidities for three reproductive system disease was adnexitis (21.57%), cervical erosion (20.06%) and vaginitis (11.09%). The rates of abnormal menstrual cycle, abnormal menstrual amount and cervical erosion increased with the length of service (P < 0.01). The taking breaks, long standing, loading work, exposure to harmful factors were related to abnormal menstruation (P < 0.05). The rapid repeat monotonous action was an important influencing factor for female reproductive system disease (OR = 1.255, 95%CI = 1.031 ∼ 1.528).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>There are relatively serious occupational hazards in the pharmaceutical industry of Gansu Province. The reproductive health status of female workers is not improved. Social public should pay attention to the protection for female workers.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To understand the status of occupational health of female migrant workers in different kinds of pharmaceutical industries in Gansu province and to provide the basis for improving occupational health condition.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>One thousand eight hundreds and one female workers from 16 enterprises were selected by cluster sampling in Gansu province and investigated by interviewing and questionnaires.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>There were statistical significances of education level, status of residency registrations, employment relationship and occupational hazards among female workers in three types of enterprises (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). The morbidities of skin disease in female workers for three kinds of enterprises were 4.46%, 2.53% and 3.70%, respectively. The morbidities of reproductive system disease in female workers for three kinds of enterprises were 48.57%, 36.70% and 36.11%, respectively.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The levels of education and working conditions of female workers in the traditional Chinese medicine, western medicine plants are low. There are more severe occupational hazards in female workers of the traditional Chinese medicine plants.</p>
