RESUMO

Fibro-osseous lesions is a class of diseases with obvious similarities in clinical manifestations and pathological features, which has been attracting the attention of clinicians and pathologists. The latest WHO 2022 Classification (5th edition) included six of these diseases (cemento-osseous dysplasia, segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia, fibrous dysplasia, juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma, psammomatoid ossifying fibroma and familial gigantiform cementoma) in the " fibro-osseous tumours and dysplasias ", and put forward new ideas on the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. According to the latest WHO 2022 Classification (5th edition), the clinical and pathological features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of these six diseases were described.

RESUMO

Neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) is a type of bead-like, fibrous and reticular substances that is actively released by activated inflammatory neutrophils during the stage of infections or inflammatory responses. NET, which is composed of chromatin DNA and multiple intracellular protein components, may wrap pathogens to limit their diffusions. Meanwhile, NET may kill pathogens via a wide range of antibacterial proteins, which is considered as the third antibacterial mechanism of neutrophils, in addition to phagocytosis and degranulation. Recent studies have shown the involvement of NET in the immune response against parasitic infections. This review summarizes the advances of NETs in the immune responses against parasitic infections, so as to provide insights into the elucidation of the pathogenesis and development of therapeutics of parasitic diseases.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the impact of microvascular decompression surgery on quality of life in patients with hemifacial spasm. Methods A clinical data collection of 224 adult patients with hemifacial spasm treated by the surgery was conducted from 2012 to 2017. The degree of spasm and effect of the operation was evaluated by Co-hen grading standard before and after the surgery. The quality of life was evaluated by the HFS-8 scale. The results were statistically analyzed. Results According to Cohen grading standard, symptoms were improved significantly 6 months after the surgery. The effective remission rate and the total effective rate of the surgery were 92.7% and 97.6% respectively. The score of HFS-8 scale was significantly lower than before treatment (2.71±3.25 vs 18.01± 4.57, P<0.05) ; The scores were significantly different before and after the surgery in patients with different de-grees of remission, except for the " invalid" group ( P=0.071) ; The scores of patients with different strengths of the spasm were significantly improved ( P<0.05) , and the Pearson correlation coefficient suggested that the HFS-8 score was significantly correlated with the severity of the spasm. Conclusions Microvascular decompression is one of the preferred treatment of hemifacial spasm, which can effectively improve the the quality of life in patients with hemifacial spasm.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical value of high-frequency ultrasonagraphy in testing carpal canal structure in the diagnosis of patients with occupational hand-arm vibration disease( HAVD). METHODS: Eighteen patients with occupational mild HAVD( 36 wrists) were selected as the case group and 20 healthy volunteers( 40 wrists) were enrolled as the control group by using convenience sampling method. The color doppler ultrasound was used to measure the crosssectional areas( CSA) of median nerve at the level of pisiform bone,the thickness of transverse carpal ligament,and the internal diameter of median nerve and the CSA of median nerve at the level of hamate hook of the 2 groups. Fisher discriminant analysis and receiver operating characteristic( ROC) curve were performed to assess the effect of diagnosing HAVD with the CSA of median nerve at the level of pisiform bone in patients with HAVD. RESULTS: The CSA of median nerve at the level of pisiform bone in both hands was smaller than that of the control group( P < 0. 01). However,there was no statistical significance in the thickness of transverse carpal ligament of both hands,the internal diameter of median nerve and the CSA of median nerve at the level of hamate hook in the case and control groups( P > 0. 05). Through the Fisher discriminant analysis which was carried on and the distinction equation which was established meanwhile by using the CSA of median nerve at the level of pisiform bone in both hands as HAVD diagnostic criterion,the HAVD predictive accuracy rate was 78. 9%. The ROC curve was underway with the discriminant score as an indicator for distinguishing HAVD,and the result showed that the area under the curve was 0. 842,with sensitivity of 75. 00% and specificity of 88. 90%. CONCLUSION: High-frequency ultrasonography can be used to observe and quantify the imaging changes of carpal canal structure in patients with HAVD,which can provide objective and scientific diagnostic basis for the diagnosis of HAVD.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of cadmium chloride on the expression of kidney injury molecule-1( KIM-1)in human renal tubular epithelial cells( HK-2 cells). METHODS: HK-2 cells at logarithmic phase were divided into a control group and 5 treatment groups that were treated with 5. 0,10. 0,20. 0,50. 0 and 100. 0 μmol / L of cadmium chloride dissolved in phosphate buffer solution. Cell pathology observation was carried out after 24 hours of cultivation. The methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay was used to calculate the survival rate of HK-2 cells. The expression of KIM-1 mRNA and protein were detected by the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting analysis respectively.RESULTS: There were no cellular morphologic change in HK-2 cells in the control group,the 5. 0 and 10. 0 μmol / L groups;the HK-2 cells showed different degree of swellings or vacuoles in the 20. 0 and 50. 0 μmol / L groups; a large number of cells were found dead in the 100. 0 μmol / L group. The cell survival rates of HK-2 cells in the 20. 0,50. 0 and 100. 0μmol /L groups were lower than those of control group,the 5. 0 and 10. 0 μmol /L groups( P < 0. 05). The pairwise comparison among survival rates of the 20. 0,50. 0 and 100. 0 μmol / L groups showed significant difference( P < 0. 05).The expression levels of KIM-1 mRNA and protein in the 20. 0 and 50. 0 μmol / L groups were higher than those of control group,the 5. 0 and 10. 0 μmol / L groups( P < 0. 05). The levels of KIM-1 mRNA and protein in the 50. 0 μmol / L group were higher than those of the 20. 0 μmol / L group( P < 0. 05). CONCLUSION: Cadmium chloride at certain concentration can increase the expression of KIM-1 mRNA and protein in HK-2 cells. Therefore,the expression of KIM-1 could be used as one of the effect biomarkers for cadmium induced kidney tubule injury.

Background Wearing of soft contact lens,as one of the important methods to correct ametropia,has been widely applied at present.The clinically deleterious effects of soft contact lens have been reported,but researches about influence of apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells are scant.Objective This study was to detect and compare the ratio of apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells between the patients with contact lens wearing and without contact lens wearing,and explore the influence of soft contact lens wearing for long term on growth of corneal epithelial cells after injury.Methods A retrospective nest case-controlled study was designed.Forty eyes of 20 myopic patients with wearing of soft contact lens for ≥5 years and 40 eyes of 20 myopic patients without wearing of soft contact lens were included in Affiliated Hospital of Guiyang Medical College.All the patients received the off-flap epipolis laser in situ keratomileusis (Epi-LASIK) from 2010 October to 2011 June.The corneal flaps were collected during the surgery.The apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells was detected by flow cytometry(FCM),and the difference of apoptotic proportion between the two groups was compared using independent sample t test.Results The FCM scatter plot showed that compared to the without contact lens wearing group,the early stage of apoptotic cells with high staining annexin V and low staining proaium iodide (PI) were much more,and survival cells with low staining annexin V and PI were less,and necrotic and late stage of apoptotic cells with high staining of annexin V/PI were more in the with contact lens wearing group.The early stage of apoptosis proportion of corneal epithelial cells was (11.23 ± 5.31)% in the with contact lens wearing group,and that in the without contact lens wearing group was (7.31± 5.43)%,showing a significant difference between them (t=2.754,P=0.008).Conclusions A long term wearing of contact lens induce more apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells,which can result in a disorder of structure and function of ocular surface during the wound healing stage.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate and analyze the social support for inpatients with occupational diseases and to provide reference and basis for relevant medical and nursing interventions.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The social support rating scale (SSRS) was used to investigate the social support for 95 inpatients with occupational diseases.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The total SSRS score of these patients was significantly lower than the national norm (32.5±9.31 vs 34.56±3.73, P < 0.05). The social support was mainly from the family, but medical staff and spiritual support were the main source and type of social support that are expected.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Patients with occupational diseases have gained little social support, in both economic and spiritual aspects. In clinical practice, the patient's demand for knowledge of diseases and spiritual needs should be satisfied, and appropriate social support should be provided.</p>

Objective: To investigate the expression of miR-451 in breast cancer cells and its correlation with drug resistance to ADM (adriamycin). Methods: Stem-loop real-time PCR was used to detect the expression of miR-451 (microRNA-451) in breast cancer MCF-7 cells and their ADM-resistant cells (MCF-7/ADM). The mimics of miR-451 and the negative control RNA (NC) were transfected into MCF-7/ADM cells by LipofectAMINE 2000. The expression levels of MDR1 (multi-drug resistance gene 1) mRNA and P-gp (P-glycoprotein) protein were examined using real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and Western blotting, respectively. MTT was used to analyze the proliferation of MCF-7/ADM cells transfected with miR-451 mimics and treated with ADM at different concentrations. Results: The expression level of miR-451 was lower in MCF-7/ADM cells than in MCF-7 cells (P < 0.05). The expressions of MDR1 mRNA and P-gp protein were decreased in MCF-7/ADM cells after transfection with miR-451 mimics as compared with those in the NC group (P < 0.05). The sensitivity of MCF-7/ADM cells transfected with miR-451 mimics and treated with ADM was enhanced and the IC50 (half inhibition concentration) value of ADM in miR-451 mimics transfection group was less than that of the NC group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The expression of miR-451 is down-regulated in breast cancer ADM-resistant cells, which may play a vital role in drug resistance by regulating the expression of MDR1/P-gp. RESUMO

Background Epipolis laser in situ keratomihusis(Epi-LASIK) is an potential surgery for myopia because it synthesize advantages of LASEK and LASIK. But its clinical effectiveness and safeness is remarkable.Objective This study was to evaluate the clinical curative effects and safeness of Epi-LASIK for myopia in different diopter of population. Methods Retrospective study was designed for 208 eyes of 104 patients who underwent EpiLASIK for the correction of myopia. The patients were divided into two groups according to preoperative diopter:lower myopia group( ≤ -6.00 D, 111 eyes) and high myopia group ( >-6.00 D,97 eyes). The time of epithelial healing, postoperative syndrome, postoperative visual acuity, refraction, intraocular pressure (IOP) , the safe index, the efficacy index and haze were evaluated at 1,3,6,12 months postoperatively. The written informed consent was obtained from each individual before surgery. Results After operation, 20 eyes ( 18.02% ) of lower myopia group and 29 eyes (29.90%) of high myopia group had obvious pain, presenting statistically significant difference between two groups (X2 = 4. 060, P<0.05 ). The mean time of epithelial healing was (5.49±0. 83 )days in lower myopia group and (5.85± 0.68 )days in high myopia group with a delayed epithelial healing time in high myopia group( u= 3. 377 ,P<0.05 ).One year after the treatment,the uncorrected visual acuity( UCVA ) ≥ 1. 0 was 90. 99% ( 101 eyes) in lower myopia group and 75.26% ( 73 eyes) in high myopia group, and 9.91% ( 11 eyes) and 15.46% ( 16 eyes) of the eyes improved byl line or more in best spectacle corrected visual acuity(BCVA) ;whereas 3.60% (4 eyes)and 6. 18% (6 eyes)lost a line or more. 91.89% ( 102 eyes) and 85.57% (83 eyes) in both groups gained within 1.00 D of the attempted correction. The safety index and efficacy index were 1.04 and 0. 98 in lower myopia group,and 1. 01 and 0. 96 in high myopia group without statistically significant difference( P>0. 05 ). haze occurred in 6 eyes in lower myopia group and 9 eyes in high myopia group and the difference in haze grading was not statistically significant between two groups ( P>0. 05 ). The high intraocular pressure appeared in 10 eyes and 9 eyes in low myopia group and high myopia group respectively during the fellow up duration and back to normal after topical use of timolol. Conclusion Epi-LASIK is an effective and safe method for correction of different diopters of myopia because of its mild symptom and lower incidence of haze.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the activity and expression of Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-ATPase in irradiated rat masseter muscle.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The rats were irradiated locally with a single dose of 20 Gy X-ray. The activities of Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-ATPase were measured with colorimetric method. The protein expression of Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-ATPase was determined by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The activities of Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-ATPase in masseter muscle decreased by approximately 20% and 40% in irradiated rats on days 3 and 30 postirradiation. There was significant difference in the expression of Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-ATPase protein between irradiated and nonirradiated rats on day 30 postirradiation. Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-ATPase protein was found in the cytoplasm of masseter muscle.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The decrease of ATPase activity played an important role in the cause of radiation-induced skeletal muscle injury, while there was no significant reduction in the expression of Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-ATPase protein in irradiated rat masseter muscle.</p>

This article suggests that the cell phone platform can be used to communicate with each other among the hospitals, the government and the common people, through which the useful informations could be transmitted to the relative persons in time. It's also a new way for propaganda of family planning. This article introduces the structure of the system, the creation of the expert database, and the connection to the telecommunication system.

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Over 70% of the total tissue weight in the cartilage matrix consists of water, and the early-stage osteoarthritic cartilage is characterized by swelling. Water transport in the cartilage matrix and across the membranes of chondrocytes may be important in normal and pathological conditions of cartilage. The purpose of this study was to identify aquaporin-1 (AQP1) and aquaporin-3 (AQP3) expressions in the mandibular condylar cartilage after experimentally induced osteoarthritis (OA) in rats.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>An experimental temporomandibular joint OA was induced by partial discectomy in rats. The pathological characteristics of the normal, early-stage, and late-stage osteoarthritic TMJ cartilages were verified by histological techniques. The AQP1 and AQP3 gene expressions in the normal and osteoarthritic cartilages were measured using quantitative real-time reverse-transcription PCR analysis. The cartilage sections were incubated in primary polyclonal antibodies to AQP3; immunofluorescent microscopy was used to examine the AQP3 expression shown by its protein level.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The mRNA expression levels of AQP1 and AQP3, analyzed using quantitative PCR, revealed that AQP3 mRNA was highly up-regulated in the OA cartilage, which was considered significant. There was no notable difference in the expression of AQP1 mRNA between OA and normal controls. With the progressing of the OA, the localization of the AQP3 protein was quite different from that of the normal cartilage. Compared to the normal cartilage, the expressions of AQP3 protein were observed mainly in the proliferative zone and the upper mid-zone chondrocytes at the early-stage of OA, and were observed to appear frequently throughout the mid- and deep zone during the late-stage of OA.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The high expression of AQP3 mRNA in the OA cartilage and the different localization of the AQP3 protein suggest that it may play a particular role in OA pathogenesis. Further study of AQP3 function may provide new insight into the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying OA.</p>

RESUMO

The differences in metabolism in Escherichia coli DH5alpha and its acetate-tolerant mutant DA19 were analyzed based on the activity of key enzymes involved in central metabolism when both strains were continuously cultured in nitrogen source-limited defined media. The activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH) in DA19 increased as compared with those in DH5alpha, while acetate kinase (ACK) and phosphofructosekinase (PFK) decreased. These indicated that more carbon flux of DA19 entered the phosphopentose pathway (PPP) and less entered the glycolytic (EMP) pathway and acetic acid production (Ack-Pta) pathway. Therefore, the differences in activity of key enzyme coincided with increased cell yield based on consumed glucose (Y(X/G)) and decreased production of acetic acid and pyruvate of DA19. G6PDH and ICDH in DH5alpha were up-regulated by addition of adenine, while ACK and PFK were down-regulated. On the other hand, adenine had little effect on those in DA19. The enzymes except PFK in both strains were down-regulated by sodium acetate, especially the activity of ICDH in DH5alpha. These results suggested changed flux of central metabolic pathways were also consistent with the changes of growth properties and byproducts formation.
