RESUMO

An adenocarcinoid is a mixed tumor comprised of both carcinoid and adenocarcinomatous components that is commonly found in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small bowel and appendix, and is also rarely found in the large bowel. A 61 year old male visited our institution because of a change in bowel habitus 3 months prior to the time of his visit. Colonoscopic findings revealed a 2 x 2 cm round smooth surface mass 7 cm from the anal verge, and an endoscopic ultrasonograph revealed a round hypoechoic mass in the submucosal layer. The mass was resected by endoscopic mucosal resection using a cap- fitted endoscope. Pathologic analysis of the mass confirmed that it was a composite tumor comprised of carcinoid and adenocarcinomatous components. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first case of rectal adenocarcinoid reported in Korea.

RESUMO

An adenocarcinoid of the cecum is a tumor that has seldom been reported in the literature. Its has the histologic features of both an adenocarcinoma and a carcinoid tumor. However, the malignancy potential and the prognostic behavior are still unclear. We treated one patient with this unusual tumor. A 64-year-old man was admitted with a complaint of right lower quadrant abdominal pain for 2 months. On colonoscopy and histological examination, the patient was diagnosed as having a cecal adenocarcinoma. A radical right hemicolectomy was done. Postoperative histologic analysis revealed that the tumor was composed of well-differentiated adenocacinoma and carcinoid components. Lymph node metastases were found in the three lymph nodes with only the carcinoid component.

RESUMO

An adenocarcinoma of the appendix is a rare tumor, and so far only 130 cases have been reported worldwide. We report one patient with peritoneal seeding of an adenocarcinoma. A 51-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with the impression of intestinal obstruction. He had undergone an appendectomy 5 years ago due to acute appendicitis. At that time, postoperative histopathological analysis had revealed an adenocarcinoid tumor in the appendix. The patient had been told to visit our hospital for follow-up but he hadn't visited. When he finally visited our hospital diagnostic laparoscopy revealed the peritoneal seeding of a recurrent adenocarcinoma. A palliative right hemicolectomy was done to relieve the bowel obstruction. After recovering from operation, the patient was treated with the 5-fluoruracil, leucovorin, and oxaloplatin (FOLFOX). The patient was discharged in improved general condition with a future plan for regular cyclic chemotherapy.

RESUMO

Appendiceal tumors are rare and usually presented as acute appendicitis. They are incidentally discovered at an emergency surgery, in which case the decision-making is very difficult. The purpose of this report is discuss to the most appropriate management for appendiceal tumors. A retrospective analysis of one case treated at HU-UEL was undertaken and the literature was reviewed. The conclusion is that frozen section should be done whenever the appendiceal findings are atypical. For appendiceal carcinoids greater than 2 cm and adenocarcinomas, a right hemicolectomy is recommended. Appendectomy is apropriate for patients whose carcinoid tumors are 1 cm in diameter or less and for carcinoid tumors between 1 cm and 2 cm without extensive lymphatic permeation and mesenteric invasion. Every case should be searched for synchronous tumors.
