Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Biqi Capsule in treating knee osteoarthritis through randomized controlled trial, and investigate its effect on radiography. Methods: One hundred eligible patients were randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio to receive Biqi Capsule (intervention group) and Calcitriol Capsule (control group). The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) and VAS for pain were assessed at week 12 and 24. MRI Osteoarthritis Knee Score (MOAKS) was assessed at week 24. The safety index and adverse event were also tested before and after the trial. Results: A total of 100 participants were enrolled in this trial, of which 16 patients were lost to follow-up, and 84 patients were included into analysis for per-protocol set. The intervention group could better improve the WOMAC than the control group after 24-week treatment (P 0.05). However, in the sub-group analysis, the intervention group had an improvement on the MOAKS score in the patients who did not take the non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (P 0.05). Conclusion: Biqi Capsule had a better treatment effects on the improvement of joint stiffness and function of patients with knee osteoarthritis. It also had a better effect in the patients who did not take NSAIDs on the radiographic evaluation.

Objective:To study curative effect of Biqi Capsule on Knee joint osteoarthritis patients.Methods:210 patients who meet the full diagnostic criteria were grouped into the therapy group(150 patients)and the control group(60 patients) at random.The therapy group was treated with Biqi Capsule per os,while the control group was treated with western medicine Meloxicam tablets per os.The comprehensive curative effects on the two groups were summarized.Results:The total effective rate of the therapy group and the control group were 93.3%and 75.5%respectively;The curative effect was found to be better in the therapy group than that in the control group(P

Objective:To compare the effect of curing polymyalgia rheumatica either by using both Biqi capsule and prednisone or by using prednisone alone. Methods: Thirty-nine patients of polymyalgia rheumatica were randomly divided into two groups, 18 patients in the treatment group treated with Biqi capsule and small dosage of prednisone; 21 patients in the control group treated with small dosage of prednisone. The therapeutic course was 12 weeks. The patients' symptoms of muscle ache, inflexibility in the morning and T-cell subsets determination (CD4, CD8)were observed and scores of clinical practice was made. Results: The respective total effective rate was 94.44% for the treatment group and 66.67% for the control group. There was distinctive difference in the scores for the treatment group and the control group in relieving the patients of the symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica. The treatment group would help the patients of polymyalgia rheumatica to improve their immunity ability. Conclusion: The combination of Biqi capsule and prednisone can help to improve the effect of curing polymyalgia rheumatica.

Objective:To observe the effect of Biqi capsule on human cartilage glycoprotein-39 in peripheral blood monouclear cells,research the possible mechanism of Biqi capsule.Methods: 39 patients with RA and 10 healthy people were selected.Expression levels of human cartilage glycoprotein-39(HCgp-39) mRNA in peripheral blood monouclear cells(PBMC) were detected by Rt-PCR method.Results: Obvious expression of HCgp-39 mRNA was found in patients with RA,the relative expression quantity was(0.7920?0.5240),which has a signifi cant difference(0.3104?0.2519,P=0.024) compared with the healthy controls;expression levels of the HCgp-39 mRNA after treatment were signifi cantly decreased,there were statistically signifi cant differences(0.4755?0.2431,P=0.038) between pre and post treatment.Conclusions: The HCgp-39 mRNA in PBMC of patients with RA were obviously higher than that of healthy ones.These data supported a correlation between the activity of RA and the HCgp-39 mRNA in PBMC;there was a certain fall in the expression levels after treatment,which hinted the immunological regulation of Biqi capsule.

Objective:To observe the curative effect of the Biqi Capsule on vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis. Methods:86 Patients of vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis were treated with Biqi Capsule,10d for a course of treatment,the treatment lasted for 2-4 courses.The curative effect was observed. Results:After 2 courses,61 patients (70%) had complete remission of symptoms;20 patients (23%) had improved symptoms;5 patients (6%) was ineffective.The total effective rate was 94%.Conclusion:The Biqi Capsule had obvious effect on vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis.

Methods:120 patients who meet the full diagnostic criteria were grouped into the treatment group (66 patients) and the control group (54 patients) at random. Objctive:To find an effective clinical method for caleaneal pain .Methods: 68 Cases of caleaneal pain in clinic service were collected from August 2006 to August 2008, and were treated with radix decoctum and Biqi Capsule. Tracing observation was used to evaluate the curative effect. Results: 41 Cases were healing well, 24 cases were improving, 3 cases were useless. The total effective rate was 95.6%. Conclusion: Radix decoctum with Biqi Capsule was an effective method for caleaneal pain.
