RESUMO

Objective To isolate anti-renin constituents from Trichosanthis Pericarpium based on bioactivity tracking separation. Methods T. Pericarpium was extracted with boiling water and precipitated by ethanol, the supernate was collected and dialyzed, and the retentate was lyophilized giving GLP, then successively separated by DEAE Sepharose Fast Flow anion-exchange and Superdex-75 gel permeation chromatographic steps, to give GLP-5-1. A combination of HPGPC, monosaccharide composition, and anti-renin studies was performed to investigate the structure and bioactivity. Results An anti-renin polysaccharide, GLP-5-1, was obtained from T. Pericarpium based on activity tracking, the average molecular weight was estimated to 3 722, monosaccharide composition analysis showed GLP-5-1 contained arabinose, mannose, glucose, and galactose with the ratio of 5.5:4.4:6.9:10.0. GLP-5-1 showed potent anti-renin effect with the IC50 was (87.4 ± 6.8) μg/mL. Conclusion In this study, a low molecular weight polysaccharide with anti-renin effect was isolated from T. Pericarpium, which could lay the foundation for the substance basis study of T. Pericarpium.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To protect public health from risk, the Minister of Environment in Korea legislated an act concerning the registration and evaluation of chemical substances. In this study, we estimated the value of a statistical life (VSL) of carcinogenic chemicals to evaluate the socioeconomic analysis in Korea. METHODS: The estimation of the health benefit can be calculated through an individual's VSL and willingness to pay (WTP). To estimate the VSL and WTP, we used a contingent valuation method through a web-based survey. RESULTS: The survey is conducted with 1434 people living in Seoul and six large cities. An analysis of the survey is essential to review the distribution of the characteristics of the target population. The statistically significant variables affecting the WTP are location, age, household income, quality of life. Through the review of data, we secured statistical validity. The WTP was estimated as 41205 Korean won (KRW)/person, and the estimated VSL appeared as 796 million KRW/person. CONCLUSIONS: There is a case in which the amount of statistical life value is estimated in connection with domestic environmental policy, fine dust, etc. However, there are no cases of evaluation for chemical. The utilization of this result is possible for conducting other study with chemicals.

RESUMO

There is a high incidence of Lung cancer among the miners of Yunnan Tin Mine.In or- der to study the carcinogenicity of chemical elements with none radioactive in the mine pow- der,a mixture of seven non-radioactive,inorganic chemical elements(CM_2:As,Pb,Fe, Cr,Ni,Cd and Be)relating to mutagenicity and tumorgenesis were chosen for Ames test and carinoma inducing experiments in hamsters.The results are as follows:1 Ames test of CM_2is positive.2 The lung cancer inducing experiment of CM_2on hamsters is successful.Lung cancer and precancerous lesions develop in 6 of 27 effective animals, the incidence is 22.2%.No tu- mor was found in the control group.The results show that CM_2is related to the lung cancer formation of hamsters,tihs is reported for the first time.
