RESUMO

Abstract A 3-dimensional (3D) printed custom-frame can improve the peripheral seal of readily available surgical/medical masks. This study aimed to assess the acceptance of a 3D-printed custom-frame with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) surgical/medical masks and the use of a face shield. A total of 206 subjects from a dental school participated, who answered a multiple-choice questionnaire. Participants received an invitation through the institutional email of the school via Qualtrics platform. 3D printed custom-frames were fabricated for each participant. According to their response, participants were divided into 4 groups: mask only (M), mask and frame (MF), mask and face shield (MFS), and all 3 personal protective equipment (MFFS). Data was analyzed in absolute and relative frequency. The acceptance of a 3D-printed custom-frame in the group MFFS varied between ''poor''/''very poor'' (44.7%). It allowed ''good'' performance of routine procedures (40.3%), but ''poor'' visual quality (48.1%). Musculoskeletal tolerance and ease to perform movements were adequate. There was no interference in olfactory sensitivity (44.7%) or in the ability to breathe (34.5%). Finally, it showed "moderate pain" (48.1%) on the ear and "no pain" (38.9%) on the head. The 3D-printed custom-frame adapted to ASTM surgical/medical face masks showed reasonable tolerance. Side effects of ear pain ranging in degrees were noted. Further research is indicated to evaluate safety, comfort, compliance, side effects, and occupational hazards of long-term use of enhanced PPE recommendations.Avoiding the recurrent outbreaks of COVID-19, the use of PPE by the public is necessary. Improper PPE use is a major source of concern for human and environmental health. Preventing such activities can be done by following steps involved in PPE disposals or by getting a new way to re-use such as improving peripherical sealing. Our work highlights that a custom-frame can improve protection, without adverse effects.

BACKGROUND: Respirator fit testing is a method to assess if the respirator provides an adequate face seal for the worker. METHODS: Workers from four Norwegian smelters were invited to participate in the study, and 701 respirator fit tests were performed on 127 workers. Fourteen respirator models were included: one FFABE1P3 and 11 FFP3 respirator models produced in one size and two silicone half masks with P3 filters available in three sizes. The workers performed a quantitative fit test according to Health and Safety Executive 282/28 with 5–6 different respirator models, and they rated the respirators based on comfort. Predictors of overall fit factors were explored. RESULTS: The pass rate for all fit tests was 62%, 56% for women, and 63% for men. The silicone respirators had the highest percentage of passed tests (92–100%). The pass rate for the FFP3 models varied from 19–89%, whereas the FFABE1P3 respirator had a pass rate of 36%. Five workers did not pass with any respirators, and 14 passed with all the respirators tested. Only 63% passed the test with the respirator they normally used. The mean comfort score on the scale from 1 to 5 was 3.2. The respirator model was the strongest predictor of the overall fit factor. The other predictors (age, sex, and comfort score) did not improve the fit of the model. CONCLUSION: There were large differences in how well the different respirator models fitted the Norwegian smelter workers. The results can be useful when choosing which respirators to include in respirator fit testing programs in similar populations.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the characteristics of materiome release kinetics of Liuwei Dihuang Pills (LDP), and to evaluate its visualization. Methods According to the 2015 edition of Chinese Pharmacopia, using the evaluation methods of release kinetics of Chinese material medica to determine the materiomics release kinetics and the releasecharacteristic of LDP by the paddle method. Then f2 fit factor was calculated and evaluated on other types of LDP in comparison with water-bindered pills and condensed pills as, which are two most common preparations in the market. Moreover, materiome release spectrum and release increment spectrum were used, hoping to quantify, integrate and visualise the materiome release characteristics of different types of LDP. Results The kinetic characteristics of the LDP accord with the Weibull release model, T50 and Td were calculated, and there are significant differences between different types of pills (P < 0.05) in addition to condensed pills and water pills. Also, some differences and similarities in the materiomics release characteristic by f2 fit factor were found in the study. Materiome release spectrum and release increment spectrum can be used to quantify, integrate and visualise the materiome release characteristics of LDP on different types. Conclusion The materiomics release kinetics can be applied to quantify, integrate and visualise the materiome release characteristic of LDP on different types. Basically in agreement with the saying, “water pills from the facilitation, honey pills take the slow, paste pills from the late of, wax-wrapped pills take the difficult”.

RESUMO

Objective: To find a new method to evaluate the in vitro release of Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) sustained-release pellets, f2 fit factor method was used to study the correlation of in vitro release between total flavonoids and different ingredients (including flavonoids and terpenoids). Methods: The release rates in vitro of total flavonoids and different ingredients (quercitrin, isorhamnetin, lutin, quercetin, ginkgolide A, ginkgolide B, ginkgolide C, and bilobalide) were detected by UV and HPLC-MS respectively, and then f2 fit factor was calculated between total flavonoids and different ingredients. Also the micro-structures of pellets before and after drug release were detected by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which could explain the drug release mechanism combined with the fitted equation. Results: All f2 values were greater than 50 between the total flavonoids and different ingredients of the in vitro release from GBE pellets of optimized preparation, which indicated that there might be a good correlation between them. The drug release mechanism further verified the reliability of the results. Conclusion: The f2 fit factor method could be applied in the evaluation of in vitro release for multi-component sustained-release preparations of Chinese materica medicine.

RESUMO

Medium filtering efficiency and loading capacity have been evaluated using staphylococcus aureus aerosol,0.75?m NaCl aerosol and Ecoli.F2 phage aerosol, and the face fit factor of actual wearing has been tested under eight predefined activities. The results have shown that the filtration efficiencies of respirator for the three kinds of tested aerosol were above 99 percent, the breathing resistance was less than 250 Pa,and while the load reached 150mg,the breathing resistance of the respirator was still below standards. The fit factors of most of the objects were over the detection capacity of the international standard test set.Our mask offers the best biological protection quality of all the protection equipments in international market. The new biological protective respirator comes to the equal protection result of the half face mask.It can be stored in a flat surface construction form, while be used in the cavity construction style. It is convenient for the troops to be equipped and applied for its smaller physical volume and lighter weight.

RESUMO

In many developed countries, for example, USA, respirator fit testing is required before entering specific work environment to ensure that the respirator worn satisfies a minimum of fit and that the user knows when the respirator fits properly. Unfortunately because we have not fit test regulation in Korea, a lot of workers wearing respirators may be potentially exposed to hazards. This study was conducted to evaluate the fitting performance for respirators and correlation fit factors with facial dimensions of wearers. 110 subjects (70 males, 40 females) were fit tested for three quarter masks, i.e., two domestic-made Mask Z, and Y and one foreign-made Mask T using PortaCount 8020. A facial dimension survey of the same subjects was conducted to develop a facial dimension grids for correlation fit factors with facial dimension parameters. A facial dimension grid was developed on the basis of face length and lip length for quarter masks. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Fit factors of Mask T were much higher than those of Masks Z, and Y. 2. Males were fitted more properly than females. 3. Male in box "f" of grid would be adequately fitted Mask Y and male in box "b", "e", "f", "h" of grid would be sufficiently fitted Mask T. Female in box "h" of grid may have a good fitting performance for both Mask Y, and T. But subjects in all boxes of grid would be inadequately fitted Mask Z.
