A quasi-experimental of therapeutic intervention study was carried out in 15 children aged 5-7 with class III functional who went to the Orthodontics Service of "Mártires del Moncada" Teaching Provincial Stomatologic Clinic in Santiago de Cuba, from September, 2015 to February, 2016, in order to use the Bimler elastic modeler for the interceptive treatment of these patients. To obtain the information the differential diagnosis with the 5 aspects described by Moyers was carried out, later on the interferences were eliminated and the apparatus was placed. Excellent results were obtained, because all the inadequate characteristics became appropriate, being these changes statistically significant. It was concluded that the most affected children with class III functional were from the male sex, 6 years and mixed race.

RESUMO

Objective:To examine the relation between the alteration of condylar endochondral in response to mandibular protrusion and the action time length by establishing a model of mandibular protrusion on young adult rats. Methods: 75 female Sprague-Dawley rats aged 9 weeks were divided into two experimental groups and one control group. In two experimental groups, bite jumping appliances created forward positioning of the condyle for twelve hours and whole day, respectively. The experimental rats, together with the control rats, were sacrificed on days 3, 7, 14, 21 and 30, respectively. Tissue sections were cut in the sagittal plane through the mandibular condyle and were processed for in situ hybridization and immunostaining of type X collagen. Results: The peak of type X collagen protein expression in 24-hour experimental groups appeared on day 21 which was on the top of all experimental groups, while in 12-hour experimental groups it was found on day 30. The results of in situ hybridization were basically in agreement with the results of immunostaining. Conclusion: Both intermittent and continuous mandibular advancement can provoke endochondral ossification in young adult rat condylar, while 24-hour ones can produce more obvious and quicker effect.

Jaw Functional Orthopedics aims to lhe adequate conditions restoration for lhe correct development of stomatognatic system functions, using for this objective light ant intermittent forces. The aim of this study was avaliate trough periapical radiographies lherootlenght of central and lateral, lower and upper; incisors, after intermittent forces stimuli, used on treatment, 30 individual swith11. 5average age were selected randomly from a total sample of60 subjects, totalizing 107 incisors with complete rhizogenesis,80 incisors with incomplete rhizogenesis and 141 alveolar crests high. The digital analysis was done by a single examinator through periapical radiographies taken before and afier treatment. There was a medium adicional enlargement of 9% in complete rhizogenesis incisors, abou/ 30% in incomplete rhizogenesis incisors and alveolar crest high kept lhe same. Treatment with Jaw Functional Orthopaedics technics seems didn 'I induces root resorption neighter alveolar bone losses, making possible lhe normal endingof rhizogenesis process.

AIM: The purpose of the current cephalometric study was to investigate the effects induced by the Herbst appliance followed by fixed orthodontic Straight wire mechanics and Class I elastics to correct a Class II division 1 malocclusion with a mandibular deficiency in the permanent dentition. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Initial (mean age of 12 years and 10 months) and final (mean age of 14 years and 8 months) cephalometric radiographs of 12 boys and 6 girls were traced to measure 12 cephalometric measurements that represented the sagittal position of the apical bases, facial convexity, mandibular rotation and sagittal position of the upper and lower incisors. Mean treatment time was 22.5 months, with 9.8 months using the Herbst appliance and 13 months with the fixed orthodontic mechanics. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The results showed: 1) no influence in the maxilla; 2) mandibular advancement; 3) reduction on the facial convexity; 4) maintenance of the mandibular plane inclination; 5) dental compensation mainly in the lower incisors (buccal tipping). Therefore, even with the Herbst fixed appliance it is more predictable and easy to obtain dental compensation than skeletal remodelling in the orthopedic correction of the mandibular deficiency.
