RESUMO

Background@#The immune response has become the basic use of today’s medical and biological sciences understanding, definition and realization when first introduced into the cognitive level with new theory of nine step closed cycle of protons related to membrane potentials three linear and s-NCM. Medicinal preparations for the immune system derived from traditional herbs have rarely been used therefore, we aim to determine the boost-reduction of immune response with preparation Antischemin with ingredients of Gingko biloba, Astragalus membranaceus and Scutellaria baicalensis.@*Materials and Methods@#This study was carried out on the innovation-research bio-modeling laboratory of the “New Medicine Medical University”. Sheep blood was taken in heparin tube and centrifuged for 10min with speed of 2000rpm and plasma was isolated. Blood components were washed with physiological solution 3-4 times and 10% blood red cell suspension was prepared. Prepared 0.2ml of 10% sheep red cell suspension was injected to mice tail vein to create immune response model (N.K. Jerne and Nordin (1963)). IL-4 (pg), antibody titre SRBC-IgM(ng/mL), and hemagglutinin titre (%) was measured with ELISA kit and compared with control group. Comparing group animals used Salimon 1 ml/kg, Dexamethasone 1 mg/kg orally. The study was conducted in accordance with the approval of Ethics Review Committee of Ministry of Health (November 02, 2018 and approval number 10, №1).@*Result @#In addition, comparing mice which used Antischemin 100 mg/kg orally with sheep blood injected group at day 5, IL-4 level increased by 12.11%, but conclution of antibodies against sheep blood-IgM concentration decreased by 28.7%, and hemagglutinin titre decreased by 27.5%, meaning we observed that the preparation can suppress immune response.@*Сonclusions@#Antischemin preparation meaning observed can suppress immune response.

RESUMO

O fibro edema gelóide atinge a dermo-hipodérmica, alterando microcirculação e adipócitos. (AU)

The cellulite affects the dermo-hypodermal layers, modifying microcirculation and adipocytes. It consists of an edematous infiltration of the connective tissue, followed by polymerization of the fundamental substance, infiltrating the plots and producing a fibrotic reaction. Besides being aesthetically unpleasant, is one of the main complaints of patients in physical therapy. The aim of this study was to analyze the action of the gel Ginkgo Biloba and Soy Lecithin associated with ultrasound in the treatment of cellulite. This study involved 8 women aged 20 to 30 years, sedentary, without diets, non-smoking, not using contraception or corticoids with cellulite grade II in the gluteal region. We used the therapeutic ultrasound with the following parameters: 3 MHz, in continuous emission mode and Effective Radiation Area (ERA) of 3.5 cm², intensity 1.4 W/cm², being applied for 10 min in pre-marked area. The patients were submitted to 30 sessions, 3 times a week at the University of Teresina/PI. For data analysis we used: thermal imaging, biochemical analysis of blood tests, the evaluation protocol of cellulite (PAFEG), photos and satisfaction questionnaire of volunteers. The results confirmed the benefit of the association of the ultrasound with gel Ginkgo Biloba and Soy Lecithin in the treatment of cellulite. (AU)

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Gingko biloba extract is known for enhancing blood circulation, scavenging free radicals, and antagonizing against platelet-activating factor. This study evaluated the effect of Gingko biloba on the noise-induced temporary threshold shift of hearing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Temporary threshold shift was induced by exposing mice to 110 dB SPL sound for 1 hour. The experimental group consisted of mice fed Gingko biloba [3 mg/kg, 6 mg/kg, and 12 mg/kg in 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)] for 7 days before noise exposure. CMC solution without Gingko biloba was fed to control mice. Hearing threshold was measured by auditory brainstem response (ABR) and distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE). RESULTS: The hearing threshold increased after noise exposure and recovered to normal within 5 days in all groups. Compared to control mice (fed CMC solution only), mice fed Gingko biloba showed more rapid recovery of ABR threshold at 16 kHz in all three experimental groups. At the other frequencies, there was no significant change in hearing recovery in the Gingko biloba groups. There was no difference in DPOAE between groups. CONCLUSIONS: Temporary threshold shift of hearing after noise exposure was partly affected by oral Gingko biloba.

RESUMO

Gingko biloba has been one of the most used medicinal plants all over the world in the past years. In this study, our group has studied the effect of a hydroethanolic extract from the aerial parts of this plant on the growth and morphological differentiation of trypanosomatids. Herpetomonas samuelpessoai and Herpetomonas sp were used in this study. The extract was obtained in a Soxhlet apparatus (50 oC, 2 hours). This extract was aseptically added to Roitman’s medium in different concentrations (4, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 mg/ml). The growth rate was determined using a Newbauer chamber to count numbers of cells after the extract inoculation (24 and 72 hours later). Smears stained by the Panotic method was used to determine the percentages of pro, para and opisthomastigote forms. The extract inhibited Herpetomonas sp growth in concentrations higher than 20 mg/ml. H. samuelpessoai has been inhibited in doses higher than 40 mg/ml. No morphological differentiation was observed in Herpetomonas sp cell. However, morphological differentiations could be noticed in H. samuelpessoai cell using doses higher than 40 mg/ml. These alterations are probably related to the cell division process, since cells with 3 or 4 nucleus were observed. Also, cytoplasmatic expansions, representing unsuccessful process of cell division were frequently found out. Further ultrastructural analysis using a transmission electron microscope showed cells with homogeneous nucleus or the absence of it. Protozoan protein profile was also analyzed. It was possible to notice changes in both trypanosomatids used in this study. H. samuelpessoai has shown over expression and accumulation of proteins which its degradation is essential to continue the cell differentiation. Also, it is possible to suggest that this extract acts through the modulation of the genetic expression and may be harmful to human cells if not purified.

Aim To investigate glutamate-induced [ Ca2 + ] i changes in cultured rat neonatal cortical astrocytes after hypoxia/reoxygenation, H2O2 or high concentration of L-glutamate injury. In the meantime, the effects of Gingko biloba extract (GbE) were examined. Methods [ Ca2+ ]i changes in astrocytes were monitored by laser scanning confocal microscopy with the Ca2+ sensitive fluorescent probe [ Ca2 + ] i, but decrease by ( 3.3 ± 1.6) %, (81 ± 11 ) % and ( 81 ± 7 ) %, respectively. Pretreatment with H2O2 or high concentration of L-glutamate injury were ( 135 ± 98 ) %, ( 117 ± 93 ) % and ( 89 ± 36) %,different injury. Conclusion Hypoxia/reoxygenation, H2O2 and high concentration of L-glutamate impaired astrocytes' response to exogenous L-glutamate, and then bidirectional communication between astrocytes and neurons could not take place. GbE could improve the abnormal responses and maintain the normal function of astroglical network. These effects support that GbE has potential beneficial actions against brain injury.

Human exposition to excessive sound levels has been a cause for preoccupation since the early stages of our civilization. In the Modern Era, sound levels have increased not only at work but also during social and leisure activities, leading the hearing loss induced by high levels of sound pressure to be considered the second most important cause of deafness. Bearing that in mind an experimental work was designed in an attempt to search for the effects of high sound pressure and Ginkgo biloba EGb 761 dry extract to the cochlea of albino adult female guinea pigs with the evaluation of cell architecture alterations by means of light microscopy and also by the evaluation of alterations to the sensory epithelium with the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) array.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Gingko biloba extract (GBE), a natural product extracted from Gingko leaves, is known to increase the radiosensitivity of tumors. This radiosensitization probably arises from the increase in the peripheral blood flow by decreasing the blood viscosity and relaxing the vasospasm. The influence of a GBE on the metabolic status in fibrosarcoma II (FSaII) of a C3H mouse was investigated using 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen C3H mice with fibrosarcoma II (from 100 mm3 to 130 mm3) were prepared for this experiment. The mice were divided into 2 groups; one (9 mice) without a priming dose, and the other (9 mice) with a priming dose of GBE. The GBE priming dose (100 mg/kg) was administered by an intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection 24 hours prior to the measurement. First 31P MRS spectra were measured in the mice from each group as a baseline and test dose of GBE (100 mg/kg) was then administered to each group. One hour later, the 31P MRS spectra were measured again to evaluate the change in the energy metabolic status. RESULTS: In the group without the priming dose, the mean pH, PCr/Pi, PME/ATP, Pi/ATP, PCr/(Pi+ME) values 1 hour after the test dose were not changed significantly compared to the values at the baseline. However, in the group with the priming dose, the mean PCr/Pi, Pi/ATP, PCr/(Pi+PME) values 1 hour after the test dose changed from the baseline values of 0.49, 0.77, 0.17 to 0.74, 0.57, 0.28 respectively. According to the paired t-test, the differences were statistically significant. CONCLUSION: The above findings suggest that the metabolic status is significantly improved after administering GBE if the priming dose is given 24 hours earlier. This shows that the radiosensitizing effect of GBE is based on the increase of tumor blood flow and the improvement in the metabolic status.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The gingko biloba extracts (GBE) are known to inducing vasodilation by increasing NO or PGI2. However, the effects on the endothelial function and clinical symptoms of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) are not clear. METHODS: The flow-mediated endothelium-dependent brachial artery vasodilation using high-resolution ultrasound was measured before and 2 hours after intake of GBE (120 mg single PO) and 1 month after regular intake of GBE (80 mg bid PO) in 33 patients (mean: 60 yrs, 26 males) with CAD who had been diagnosed by coronary angiogram and managed with medication for more than 1 month. RESULTS: The only one patient could not continue to take GBE due to severe nausea. The frequency or severity of chest pain was decreased in 31 patients among the other 32 patients. The flow-mediated brachial artery vasodilation (mean+/-SD) were significantly (p<0.001) improved from 8.9+/-3.9% before to 13.4+/-4.5% and 13.7+/-4.0% 2 hours and 1 month after taking GBE, respectively. The brachial artery diameter was increased from 4.42+/-0.67 mm before to 4.45+/-0.66 mm and 4.64+/-0.60 (p<0.005) after taking GBE, respectively. The endothelial function in patients with diabetes mellitus (5 from 33) was not improved 2 hours after taking GBE, but improved 1 month after GBE. The improvement of endothelial dysfunction in patients with hyperlipidemia or hypertension was less than patients without it. CONCLUSION: GBE has favorable short- and long-term effects on the endothelial function and clinical symptoms as well as long-term vasodilatation in patients with CAD without serious side effects.
