Introduction: The care for the patient with delayed healing starts from the optimization of their care. Reversing such condition requires knowledge of the risk factors. The national and international literature describes local factors related to the injury and general factors related to the patient's general condition. Objective: To estimate the risk factors for delayed healing in burn patients. Methods: An analytical case-control study was carried out with burn patients admitted to the caumatology service at Hospital Universitario Manuel Ascunce Domenech in the period from 2017 to 2021. The study population consisted of 267 patients. Odds ratio and confidence interval were calculated. Results: The development of delayed healing was three and a half times more likely in burn patients aged 45 years or over (odds ratio: 3.591). In addition, it was nine times more likely for associated chronic diseases, up to six times in nonaccidental burns, 163 times in local complications, and 89 times in systemic complications. Conclusions: The identified risk factors for delayed healing in burn patients were the following: age 45 years or over, presence of comorbidity, direct fire as causative agent, nonaccidental way of production, presence of more than six affected anatomical areas, hypodermic burn, burn extension of 20 percent or over on the burned body surface, injury contact pressure, the Cuban index of prognostic vital risk, as well as the local or the systemic complications(AU)

RESUMO

Soccer is the most popular sport worldwide, with over 265 million participants. Soccer is unique in that the ball can be directed deliberately and purposefully with the head, an act referred to as ‘heading’. In recent years, there has been concern about the association between repetitive subconcussive head impacts associated with heading and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Heading causes immediate changes in biochemical and electrophysiological markers of traumatic brain injury, and some studies have reported brain structural changes and dysfunction in former soccer players. In 2019, it was reported that the mortality associated with neurodegenerative diseases was about 3.5 times higher among former professional soccer players. Following that, in early 2020, the guidance have been published to limit heading by age in some regions including England and Scotland. In this review, we will expound the immediate and long-term effects of heading associated with chronic traumatic encephalopathy and the measures that should be taken into consideration in the practice of soccer instruction, based on the latest findings.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) was initially described in boxers, but in recent years it has been reported in other settings, particularly in contact sports and military personnel. Soccer (football association) had previously been (and still is) considered relatively safe when compared to other sports, such as American football. However, a few cases of professional soccer players with CTE have been reported in the last few years. It is still unknown how frequent this condition is in soccer players, and the role played by heading the ball remains elusive. Other traumas to the head, face and neck caused by contact with another player's head, arm or other body parts are among the most frequent in soccer. In spite of the lack of more in-depth knowledge, there is reasonable evidence for recommending severe punishment (red card and suspension for several matches) for players causing avoidable trauma to another player's head.

BACKGROUND:As the latest generation of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, vitamin E-stabilized ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene has been widely put into use of various kinds of joint replacement. However, wear debris and osteolysis caused by that are stil the vital factor influencing the clinical curative effect. OBJECTIVE:To discuss and summarize the material characteristics and application progress of vitamin E-stabilized ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, and to seek the theoretical basis which can guide us to launch vitamin E-stabilized ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene clinical y. METHODS:The first author retrieved the CNKI and Medline databases by computer. The keywords were“ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, vitamin E-stabilized, joint replacement, application”in English. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Total y 92 articles were retrieved. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 46 articles were included in result analysis. The results show that vitamin E-stabilized ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene can not only enhance the physicochemical property of prosthesis, but also can integrate with free radicals to increase antioxidant rate of prothesis in order to prolong the long-term curative effect of prosthesis. However, it is stil lack of vast of clinical cases and fol ow-up as evidence. In case of that, long-term clinical efficacy remains to be assessed.

RESUMO

Background: Endometriosis is one of the common gynaecological problems mostly affecting the women in reproductive age, associated with non menstrual pelvic pain and other symptoms and recurrence of endometriosis is common after medical or even surgical treatment. Objectives: This review is done to assess, whether conservative surgery and adjunctive hor- mone suppression therapy is more beneficiary than surgery alone in the treatment of sympto- matic endometriosis in term of pelvic pain and disease recurrence. Data sources and search method: Searched had been performed on Cochrane Central Register of Controlled trials, MEDLINE, PsycINFO. Journals and reference lists had been also searched. Review methods: Only Randomized controlled trials were included if they compared the effec- tiveness of hormone therapy following conservative surgery with surgery alone or surgery plus placebo in the treatment of symptomatic endometriosis. Outcome data had been analysed by using a Mantel-Haenzel Fixed-effect model to perform meta-analysis and results had been pre- sented as Risk ratio for binary data and Standardised Mean difference for continuous data with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Out of 8 trails pelvic pain was reported in 7 trials. No significant benefit was observed both in pelvic pain recurrence (RR= 0.75, 95% Cl- 0.54 to1.04) and disease recurrence (RR 0.89, 95% Cl 0.53 to 1.49) among 5 trials (481& 447 participants) in favour of surgery and adjunctive hormone therapy. On the other hand another 2 trials (280 participants) showed sig- nificant benefit in pelvic pain score (Std. Mean difference-0.80, 95%Cl -1.05 to -0.55) but con- siderable heterogeneity (I²= 96%) was observed. Conclusion: Women who received Post-surgical hormone therapy in the treatment of sympto- matic endometriosis had no advantages in respect of endometriosis and pelvic pain recurrence in compared with surgery alone.

RESUMO

Transurethral resection syndrome (TURS) is one of the complications of endoscopic transurethral operation with irrigation fluid. TURS comprehensively refer to several clinical symptoms and signs caused by intravascular absorbtion of irrigation fluid, hypertension, bradycardia, arrhythmia, respiratory distress, hypotension, confusion, blindness, seizure, coma, hyponatremia, and hypoosmolarity. TURS is mainly known as the complication of the transurethral resection of prostate (TURP), and rarely found in the procedures such as transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TUR-BT), hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, and arthroscopy. Only a few cases of TURS after TUR-BT have been reported. The patients on maintenance hemodialysis were restricted in the amount of water intake for volume control. They were susceptible to the absorption of irrigation fluid during TUR-BT since they had anuria. We hereby report the 2 cases maintenance hemodialysis patients who were led to TURS after TUR-BT.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Indexing medical documents is important to retrieve medical information efficiently, but it is labor intensive and an annoying task for indexers or authors. This paper presents that whether an automatic indexing program can help the human task for Korean medical keyword indexing. METHODS: We developed an automatic indexing program using Korean Medical Subject Heading(K-MeSH) and evaluated the performance as compared with technical indexers and authors. RESULTS: Experimental result was that the current program's performance was much lower than technical indexers', but it was same as the authors' performance. CONCLUSION: The result showed that it is very affirmative to develop the automatic indexing program to help authors at least, and to help technical indexers with improving the program by enriching K-MeSH and utilizing K-MeSH structure.

Frame of reference is a locus or a set of loci in relation to which spatial locations are determined. Egocentrical frames of reference define spatial locations in relation to observer; in allocentricalframes of reference, spatial locations are determined in relation to external loci. Several evidences of usefulness of frames of references to human visual system are analysed, to perceptual tasks as well as navigational tasks. Neuropsychological studies provided empirical support to hypothesis ondissociation of visual system as a function of frames of reference. The whole of experimental evidenceindicates an effective interaction between codings in egocentrical and allocentrical frames of reference, thus visual and visuomotor systems introduce transformations on coordinates of a frame on another, adjusting information to different tasks requirements.
