The historical development of Shanghai herbal paste / 药学实践杂志

As the "star product" of Shanghai, Shanghai herbal paste has played an irreplaceable role both in the treatment of diseases and nurturing health. The concept of Shanghai regional culture, Shanghai style Chinese medicine and Shanghai herbal paste were introduced by the combination of literature search and practical experience. The historical developments of Shanghai herbal paste were summarized in order to understand Shanghai herbal paste comprehensively and provide a historical and empirical basis for the inheritance and innovation of Shanghai herbal paste.

Observations on the Efficacy of Acupoint Application with Different Acupoints as Summer Treatment for Winter Diseases in Treating Pediatric Asthma / 上海针灸杂志

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupoint application as summer treatment for winter diseases plus point Shenque application of herbal paste in treating pediatric asthma.Methods One hundred and one patients with bronchial asthma were randomized to a treatment group (48 cases) and a control group (53 cases).Both groups received acupoint application during dog days.The treatment group received point Shenque application of herbal paste in addition to the basic therapy.The clinical symptom and sign (pant and pulmonary wheeze) scores were recorded in the two groups before and after treatment.The clinical short-term and long-term therapeutic effects and disease severities were compared between the two groups.Results The total efficacy rate was 85.4％ after three months of treatment and 87.5％ after six months of treatment in the treatment group and 58.5％ and 62.3％ in the control group;there were statistically significant differences between the two groups (P＜0.01).There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the clinical symptom and sign (pant and pulmonary wheeze) scores in both groups (P＜ 0.01).There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the clinical symptom and sign scores between the treatment and control groups (P＜0.05).There was a statistically significant post-treatment difference in disease severity between the treatment and control groups (P＜0.05).Conclusions Acupoint application as summer treatment for winter diseases plus point Shenque application of herbal paste is an effective way to treat pediatric asthma.It can markedly relieve the clinical symptoms and signs and reduce the severity of asthma attacks.

Professor Yu Jingmao's Experience in Coordinating and Treating Pediatric Disease with Herbal Pas te / 浙江中医药大学学报

Objective] To explore professor Yu Jingmao's clinical experience in coordinating and treating pediatric disease with herbal paste. [Method] By fol owing the teacher clinic, the author summarizes professor Yu Jingmao's academic experience of treatment of children with chronic il ness with herbal paste, and for proven cases. [Result] Professor Yu Jingmao uses herbal paste for modulating pediatric intractable disease with curative effect. In his opinion, herbal paste treatment of pediatric diseases must be combined with disease and syndrome differentiation, and considered in accordance with seasonal conditions and the patient's individuality. Professor Yu considers that herbal paste formulations are suitable for children, and pays attention to regulating and nourishing to strengthen the body focused on harmony, reinforcing with elimination based on balance, protecting and tonifying the spleen and stomach based on enjoying oral application. [Conclusion] According to children's physiological and pathological characteristics, professor Yu Jingmao has rich experiences in using herbal paste for personalized syndrome differentiation treatment of pediatric diseases to strengthen body resistance and eliminate evil, regulate Yin and Yang, which is worth generalizing and applying.

Experience on the Treatment of Postpartum Body Pain by Herbal Paste from the Centralizer Exorcism / 浙江中医药大学学报

Purpose]To explore the paste treated postpartum body pain in curative effect. [Methods]By fol owing professor Zhang diagnosis ,the paper summarized with herbal paste for gynecology as the methods of treatment of postpartum body pain, and listed 2 proven cases.[Result]Postpartum woman is weak in both qi and blood, paste has an advantage in taking the fast-rising tonifying deficiency and curing correction,and it is superior to the liquid form, convenient for long-term use, paste treating pantalgia after childbirth in the disease has a unique advantage, and because of its smal side effects, especial y suitable for women. [Conclusion]Herbal paste in chronic disease of department of gynaecology modulation has a unique advantage due to the efficacy of comprehensive,and takes into consideration the physiological and pathological features of menstruation,leucorrhea,pregnancy and delivery. She focuses on the individual syndrome differentiation,and attaches great importance to the balances of relationship between pathogenic factors and healthy qi,yin yang heat cold,viscera and meridians qi blood,to achieve the aim of preventing and treating diseases,regulating the body ,and is worth promoting.

Monitoring of extrinsic harmful residues in herbal paste / 中草药

Objective: To monitor the pesticide residues and heavy metal residues in the herbal paste and to provide the basis for the total quality control of the herbal paste. Methods: The contents of benzene hexachloride (BHC, containing α-BHC, β-BHC, γ-BHC, and δ-BHC), dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT, containing PP'-DDE, PP'-DDD, OP'-DDT, and PP'-DDT), and pentachloroni- trobenzene (PCNB) were determined by using the method of gas chromatography. The contents of Pb, Cd, As, Hg, and Cu were determined by using atomic absorption spectrometry. Results: Pesticide residues in four batches of the herbal paste were as follows: The total BHC and DDT were less than 20 ng/g, and PCNB was less than 10 ng/g. The heavy metal residues were as follows: Pb was less than 0.5 μg/g, Cd was less than 30 ng/g, As and Hg were less than 0.2 μg/g, and Cu was less than 2 μg/g. Conclusion: Pesticide residues and heavy metal residues in the herbal paste accord with the limit standards of Chinese Pharmacopoeia and the EU rules.
