RESUMO

Background: Changing norms have overburdened the educators. Our study aims to assess the levels of occupational stress among higher secondary school teachers and demographic, academic characteristics and relevant factors influencing it. Methodology: Cross sectional study was conducted in Thalassery block of Kannur district, Kerala. The block comprised of 38 schools with 516 teachers. Overall, 484 teachers participated in the study. Modified 慚anual for teacher抯 occupational stress scale� questionnaire was used. Results were analyzed using Chi square test, 憈� test and one way ANOVA. Results: Males were 155 (32%) and females were 329 (68%). The mean age was 40.6 years. Four-fifth (81%) were from government and one-fifth (19%) were from private schools. Majority, 268 (55%), of teachers were found to have mild occupational stress. While, 171 (35%) had moderate stress and 45 (9%) had severe occupational stress. Stress was linked to vast syllabus, time constraint, outside interference, students� behavior, poor infrastructure and favoritism from authorities. Increased teaching experience and rising position in school were significantly associated with stress. Conclusion: All higher secondary school teachers in Thalaserry block of Kannur, Kerala felt occupational stress. Majority (55%) had mild stress, 35% had endured moderate and 9% suffered severe stress.

Background: India being a developing country faces a double burden of communicable disease and increasing burden of non-communicable disease like road traffic accidents. The year 2000–2011 was declared “Decade of action for road safety” by the UN General Assembly with a goal to reduce and stabilize road traffic accidents. Age groups from 15 to 19 years and second 5 to 14 years are more commonly exposed to road traffic accidents (RTAs), with this background, the study was focused on school-children. Objectives: The objectives of the study were as follows: (i) To study the sociodemographic profile of the study population and (ii) to study the knowledge, attitude, and practices of road safety rules and regulations among higher secondary school students. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 266 higher secondary school students in Lokikere, field practice area of S. S. Institute of Medical Sciences, Davangere. Data were collected using pre-tested questionnaire for a period of 2 months from October 2019 to November 2019. Results: Among 266 students, 97.7% of students have received knowledge from their teacher and 61.2% of higher secondary school students have adequate knowledge and positive attitude regarding road safety rules and regulations, even after 95.5% of students having adequate knowledge of age to attain driving license still 23.4% of them drive vehicle without obtaining license, of which 48.3% drive vehicle without parent’s knowledge and 29% of them have been exposed to RTA. Conclusion: Majority of the students have good knowledge of road safety. Around 95% of the students have adequate knowledge, 61.2% of students have positive attitude regarding road safety rules. About 23% of the students drove vehicles without license, among whom 48.3% drove vehicles without parents knowledge and 29% of them have been exposed to RTA.

RESUMO

Environment is the creator of human but human has demolished the presence of natural environment, altered it for its better and luxurious living. It is an utmost necessity to make an environmental awareness within the citizens for a better sustaining environment for our future generation. Environment education is known to play an important role for this activity. Also it plays a vital role in the process of sustainable development also. Education directly interacts with our future generations for preserving and maintaining the environment. The present study is based on environmental awareness ability of higher secondary school students of Ahmedabad district, Gujarat state considering variables type of school – granted and non granted and area of school – urban and rural. The researcher prepared questionnaire and collected the data from students using the standardized tool ―Environmental Awareness Ability Measure‖. Results showed that there was significant difference between the mean score on environmental awareness ability of higher secondary students school students considering Urban and Rural area, Granted and Non granted schools, Granted and Non granted Schools of Urban area and Granted and Non granted schools of rural area.

RESUMO

The aim of the present study is to develop a tool to measure the Professional Commitment towards Teaching. So the researcher with the assistance of his guide prepared a questionnaire to measure the Professional Commitment towards Teaching. The tool is constructed in aiming the professional commitment of teachers who work for the Higher Secondary Schools in Salem and Krishnagiri Districts in Tamil Nadu respectively. Since the psychological aspect of any profession is commitment towards profession. Now days teaching profession become more conversed amongst the learned crowd and professionals in the same. Hence the researcher aimed in constructing a tool to measure the Professional Commitment towards Teaching.
