The paper shows how the dominant journal impact factor has arrived to its present features and discuss the degree in which this metric is prone to be manipulated and misused, as opposed to the prescribed utilization by Thomson Reuter, the corporation in charge of its official computation. Hirsch's H-index and a large family of related indicators seek to give a single number that in some sense summarizes an author's research output and its impact. The free public availability of information offered by Google Scholar allows citation counts, and analyses based thereon, to be performed and duplicated by anyone. Combining H-index with this information provides an avenue for more transparency and supply an extraordinary opportunity to develop a fairer scienciometric analysis, specially when languages other than English are involved.

RESUMO

The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine (KJIM) is the international journal published in English by the Korean Association of Internal Medicine. To understand the position of the journal in three different databases, the citation indicators were elucidated. From databases such as Korean Medical Citation Index (KoMCI), Web of Science, and Scopus, citation indicators such as the impact factor, SCImago journal rank (SJR), or Hirsch Index were calculated according to the year and the results were drawn. The KJIM 2010 impact factor increased to 0.623 in Web of Science. That of year 2009 in KoMCI was a 0.149. The 2009 SJR in Scopus was 0.073, with a ranking of 27/72 (37.5%) in the category of internal medicine and 414/1,618 (25.6%) in the category of medicine, miscellaneous. The Hirsch Index from KoMCI, Web of Science and Scopus were 5, 14, and 16, respectively. The KJIM is now cited more by international researchers than Korean researchers, indicating that the content of the journal is now valued at the international level.

RESUMO

Hirsch index or h-index of a subject means that the subject has h published papers which are cited at least h times for each. This index is considered as both quantity and quality of the SHbiect's academic outcome. In this paper the data showed that the h-indexes of the Chinese medical SUbiects were different. The SUbiect's h-index could be used as a balance factor.which made the outcome of scientists from different SUbiects comparable.Using h-index and the other 2 indexes.Chinese medical snbiects were clustered into 4 groups, which could be used as a guideline for classified management and the evaluation of the medical subjects

RESUMO

A four-day-old neonate presented with severe abdominal distention, intermittent bilious vomiting, typical black lock, partial albinism and heterochromatic iris. Ileostomy was done proximal to the transition zone at mid-ileal region (50 cms proximal to ileo-cecal region) All biopsy specimens till the transitional zone were negative for ganglion cells. Distinct features of total colonic aganglionosis and recto-sigmoid Hirschsprung's disease are delineated here.
