RESUMO

The study explores the perceived causes of change in sexual risk behaviour among Nigerian adolescents over the past years. By embedding the results into a theoretical context, the study aims to further develop interventions targeting adolescent sexual health. To do so, 23 semi-structured interviews are conducted through the mobile-instant-messaging tool WhatsApp. The interview sample consists of both female and male adolescents and adults from different regions in Nigeria. The interviews are conducted as simultaneous chats and analysed based on the qualitative content analysis approach. Respondents perceive a multitude of different factors as causes of change in sexual risk behaviour among Nigerian adolescents. They can be categorised into (1) individual actors, (2) structural factors, and (3) socio-cultural factors. Interrelations between the different factors can partly be observed. The other factors are mostly modifiable and can therefore contribute to reducing adolescent SRB.

SUMMARY: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant challenges for the higher education system. The adopted measures to prevent community transmission have shifted face-to-face teaching to virtual education. The new adopted teaching and learning practices have raised the need for reinforcing the social dimension of learning. In this context, we have implemented the use of WhatsApp to interact and sharing academic contents in a small group of students in a Histology course. The aim of this study was to evaluate the students' perceptions about the effectiveness of this social network in facilitating communication and sharing educational information, its usefulness in learning, and its ability to modify the affective dimension during the teaching- learning process. The results showed that students had a positive attitude towards the use of WhatsApp in the learning environment, so that it facilitated communication and group cohesion, favored learning and reduced anxiety in the face of evaluation. Thus, social networks must be integrated in learning process considering students' characteristics.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Instant messaging services (IMS) are widely used in medical practice. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate perceptions regarding use and usability of IMS within clinical practice and assess users' knowledge of the ethical and legal context involved in using IMS within medical practice. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional study conducted in different hospitals and medical institutions in Minas Gerais, Brazil. METHODS: Medical students, medical residents, primary care physicians and specialist doctors answered an online questionnaire regarding epidemiological data, graduation level and use of IMS for medical communication. Responses were collected over a five-month period and data were assessed using the IBM-SPSS software. RESULTS: 484 people answered the questionnaire: 97.0% declared that they were using IMS for medical-related purposes; 42.0%, to elucidate medical concerns every week; 75.0%, to share imaging or laboratory tests and patients' medical records; and 90.5%, to participate in clinical case-study private groups. Moreover, only 37.0% declared that they had knowledge of the legislative aspects of use of smartphones within clinical practice. Differences in the frequency of discussion of medical concerns within the daily routine between student/residents and general practitioners/specialists, and in the frequency of image-sharing and patient-guiding/assistance between students and medical doctors, were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide reliable proof that medical doctors and students use IMS, as a tool for clinical case discussions, interactions between healthcare providers and patients, or dissemination of knowledge and information. Nonetheless, because of limitations to the ethical and legal regulations, evidence-based discussions between authorities, academics and medical institutions are needed in order to fully achieve positive outcomes from such platforms.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE:To improve the level of rational drug use,and to reduce the workload of clinical pharmacists. METH-ODS:Established“Intelligent Management and Solution for Clinical Rational Drug Use”of our hospital was introduced, including post-prescription review(all prescriptions review)system, self-maintenance system for rational drug use knowledge base,pre-pre-scription review (rational drug use real-time review) early warning system. The effects of intelligent system were evaluated. RE-SULTS & CONCLUSIONS:After the application of the system, the following aspects could be achieved, including“all prescrip-tions review”,“multi-prescriptions/longitudinal review”,system knowledge base real-time update and autonomous definition of re-view rules, effective communication and intervention between physicians and pharmacists before printing prescription by Yaozhidao instant messaging system. Through related trial evaluation, the proportion of false positive prescriptions decreased by 17.65% after 4 months of the application of the system;drug consultation prescriptions review average score of outpatient pharmacists increased from 81 to 94.85;the time of prescription review decreased by 4.72-5.46 times. Through mandatory interception of unqualified pre-scriptions,severe warning, timely prompt and pharmacists’intervention, the rate of unqualified prescriptions pre-reviewed by the system in respiration department decreased from 32% in Jan. 2015 and 21% in May to 4.62% in Dec. So,the application of the system promotes rational drug use in outpatient department, reduces the workload of pharmacists and ensures the safety of drug use comprehensively.
