Progressive macular hypomelanosis is a dermatosis of uncertain etiology. The participation of Propionibacterium acnes has been suggested in view of the response achieved following therapy with drugs that are active against this bacterium. This report describes a series of thirteen patients with progressive macular hypomelanosis who were treated with an association of lymecycline and benzoyl peroxide over a three-month period. Response to treatment was excellent and the positive results were maintained during the entire follow up period.

The objective of this research is to establish the use of Tetracycline, Amoxicillin, Erythromycin and Metronidazole, in the control of stomatognathic infections. The research is framed in the documentary type design. Its execution began with the collection of bibliographic material on the subject of the use of Tetracycline, Amoxicillin, Erythromycin and Metronidazole in the control of stomatognathic infections. Bibliographic databases on the Internet were reviewed and recent and updated books and journals were consulted; Once the information was collected, the articles were selected based on updated scientific support. Subsequently, each article was analyzed and the structuring of the final work was carried out taking into account the logical order and attached to the proposed objectives. The system of bibliographic citations used is a quotation represented with a numeral in the text, Vancouver type. The conclusions were obtained based on the analysis of the scientific evidence found and considering the objectives of the research. The bibliography is ordered according to the Vancouver system. Fifty-one bibliographic sources, including textbooks, journals and Internet sites, published by different researchers were consulted, analyzed and put into consideration to develop the research. Scientific material establishes that the use of Tetracycline, Amoxicillin, Erythromycin and Metronidazole in the control of stomatognathic infections is very useful if they are used with specificity and without abuse to counteract the following pathologies: chronic and aggressive periodontitis, necrotizing ulcer gingivitis, periodontal abscess, Periapical abscess, Pericoronitis and as a prophylactic regimen in diabetic and immunosuppressed patients, and the incorporation of Tetracycline to the periodontal dressing to improve postsurgical healing.
