RESUMO
Learning and memory play main roles in daily life of human, and memory represents the basis of all trainings and learning. The aim of the current study is to investigate the effects of gallic acid and physical exercise on the levels of passive avoidance memory in rat. In this experimental study, 46 rats weighing 200-300 g were randomLy divided to six groups of eight each: including control group, groups treated with 10 and 20 mg/kg gallic acid, group undergoing physical exercise alone, and groups both undergoing physical exercise and treated with 10 and 20 mg/kg gallic acid. The interventions continued for 10 days. After the intervention, passive avoidance memory was measured by shuttle box, blood samples were taken, and serum and brain antioxidant capacity and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured. Secondary latency in shuttle box significantly increased in groups undergoing treadmill exercise and undergoing treadmill exercise + treating 10 and 20 mg/kg gallic acid. In groups treated with 10 and 20 mg/kg gallic acid alone, secondary latency increased significantly. Results confirmed the effects of gallic acid and physical exercise, either alone or combined, in improving memory.

To investigate the effects of Baoganning on injury of liver cells induced by hydrogen peroxide (H 2O 2) in rats.Rat models of injury of liver cells were induced by H 2O 2 at final concentration of 2 mmol/L. Six kinds of suspension of isolated rat liver cells were prepared according to the addition of serum. They were group A ( blank control), group B (H 2O 2 model), group C (normal control), group D (vitamin E), group E (low dosage of Baoganning) and group F (high dosage of Baoganning). Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, nitric oxide (NO) and malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) contents and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (ALT) level were detected.SOD activity and NO and MDA contents were increased and ALT level was decreased in Baoganning groups.[Conclusion]Baoganning exerts a protective effect on injury of liver cells induced by H 2O 2 in rats.
RESUMO
To study the protective effect of Shengmai Injection on adriamycin-induced cytotoxity of diaphragm in rabbits. The rabbits were randomly allocated to three groups. The control group were treated with NS 2 ml?kg -1 for five days, adriamycin+NS group with NS 2ml?kg -1 for five days and then administered adriamycin 10 mg?kg -l and adriamycin + Shengmai Injection group with Shengmi Injection 2 ml?kg -l for five days and then administered adriamycin 10 mg?kg -1 . Twenty-four hours later, animals in the three groups were anaesthetized. Then the transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi) and diaphragm evoked potential(DEP) were measured, SOD activity and MDA content were tested and the ultrastructure of diaphragm cells was observed under electron microscope. Adriamycin could lower the Pdi and amplitude of DEP (P
