RESUMO

Gingival and periodontal diseases have afflicted humans since the dawn of history. One of the most common esthetic and functional concerns associated with periodontal tissues is marginal tissue recession. About 75% of 30- and 31-year-old individuals exhibit gingival recession, mainly at facial surfaces. Various techniques have been introduced to the field of cosmetic periodontology since Grupe and Warren first described the “lateral positioned flap” to improve the appearance of one’s smile and boost confidence. Here, we present a case of sub epithelial connective tissue graft, one of the most versatile microsurgical procedures with a 65-98 mean percentage of root coverage, where limitation factors include amount of avascular root surface and interdental periodontal attachment levels.

RESUMO

Introduction and objective: Marginal tissue recession represents a common condition in Periodontology. Miller's Classes I and II recessions, in which the etiological factors are well diagnosed and eliminated, show great predictability of total coverage when the technique of subepithelial connective tissue graft is used. This technique success has been mainly attributed to the double blood supply for graft's nutrition, originating from the connective tissue of both the periosteum and flap. Case report and conclusion: The authors reported a clinical case in which a Miller's Class I recession was treated by the surgical technique of subepithelial connective tissue graft, obtaining total coverage, eliminating the aesthetic deficiency and the dentin hypersensitivity complained by patient.

RESUMO

There are so many considerations for successful restorative dentistry and the periodontal consideration is one of the most important facors to consider. In modern dentistry intracrevicular margin is popular due to esthetic reason. But the marginal tissue recession after intracrevicular restoration is one of the most troublesome phenomena. The marginal tissue recession may be controlled with understanding the mechamsms. In conclusion (1) the inflammation of periodontium must be controlled before intracrevicular restorative percedure (2) the width and thicknes of keratinized gingiva must be evaluated before intracrevicular restorative procedure (3) tooth preparation must follow the natural scallop of CEJ.
